Because of his serious lack of observation skills, Taven hadnât the slightest idea that anyone had come even remotely close to finding him. He was lonely, chilled, getting hungrier by the second, because his low wares were gnawing at the back of his mind, and he just wanted to go home. The hard packed dirt underneath him was uncomfortable despite the leaf litter, and he swore that fires were the most useless thing to heat anything, unless they were ten feet tall and coming from the hearth in his room.
But, despite his discomfort, he would push on as long as he could. So, with the sun completely set, and his stomach growling, he rolled over under his blanket, and attempted to sleep.
The dawn woke him early the next morning, and that was one fact heâd forgotten about. Canât sleep in with the sun shining down on your face. So, with a grumbled protest, he set to tearing down his camp, and preparing himself for a hunt.
With his fire stamped out, and his annoyingly light pack slung across his shoulder with his bow and quiver, he set out for the day. He had to catch something, and he still couldnât find those damn snares. Hours rolled buy, and he cursed his loud step as every possible animal that came his way ran off at the sound of his feet. That is until he finally stumbled upon his snares -on purpose of course- and found each one, not only empty, but triggered. Yet, there was no game.
Growling in frustration, Taven balled up the twine of his snares and threw it, pacing in a circle as he thought about what to do. Either someone had found his snares, and taken his food, or an animal had pulled the damned things free. As he searched for any snare that might have been missed, a soft padding behind him made him whirl around.
Standing not even five feet away with him was a familiar black wolf, and haunting yellow eyes met his. Of course, wolves donât really have much in the way of facial expressions, but he swore that his brotherâs companion was laughing at him. Glaring at the idiotic canine, he threw his arms up in the air, and faked rushing him.
âWhat do you want, you damn hound?! More of my food to eat for yourself, or just to taunt me!? Go back and tell your master that heâs lucky I donât skin you alive!â
Of course it would be one of those damn wolves that would take his game⌠How else could Fenris ruin this trip? It was that idiotâs fault he was even lost in the woods.
