Happy summer.
Best way to finish a meal.
My coworker brought in some homemade cayenne tincture today. Best cleanse you'll ever do.
I just downloaded the Highball app from Studio Neat and am loving it so far. This is an old favorite of mine. I'll try to start including these recipe cards that you can save and import for some of my favorites.
First of all, I know how this looks. Braulio is a great Amaro from northern Italy that is a translucent brown color until you stir it with ice and it becomes very cloudy. It has a great pine/menthol flavor that is very overbearing and hard to pair in a cocktail. Also it looks, literally, like shit.
So I figured I’d take it over the top with this one. Fernet & Coke is a great combo (huge in Argentina!), so I decided to add that to the mix and came up with this:
2oz Amaro Braulio
1/2oz Coffee infused Fernet
1oz Mexican Coke reduction (boil Mexican Coke until it reduces by half)
A squeeze of lime
This tastes as weird as it sounds (and looks), but I love it. You can taste each of the crazy bold flavors from the Braulio, Fernet, coffee, and even the slight herbal flavor of the Coke syrup. I just wish it didn’t look like something you’d pump out of a sewer in Buenos Aires.
2oz Anejo Tequila 3/4oz Blackberry Syrup Dash Chocolate bitters For the syrup: Simmer blackberries in water, breaking them up a bit, then strain through a coffee filter. Add an equal amount (by weight) of sugar, and heat until the sugar is dissolved, just like normal simple syrup.
1oz gin 1/2oz dry vermouth 1/2oz grand marnier 1/2oz Campari
Gin & Tonic 1.75oz Dry gin 3.25oz Really Fucking Good Tonic
Lazy Afternoon Sazerac
2oz Rye
1/2oz simple syrup
2 drops absinthe
2 dashes lemon bitters
1 dash Peychaud's bitters
This is very light and summery tasting (aka chuggable). I wish I used a sharper rye like Bulleit or EH Taylor, but this Crater Lake is great if you want something easy on the palate.
Lemon bitters.
Should I start naming these? How's this: Better Orange

1oz Amaro Meletti
3/4oz Grand Marnier
4-5 drops Coffee Infused Fernet
2 dashes orange bitters
2 dashes grapefruit bitters
2oz bourbon

1oz Bittermen's Amere Sauvage
1oz Sweet Vermouth
3 Amaro Sazerac
1oz Amaro Ramazzotti
1oz Amaro Meletti
1/2oz Bittermens Citron Sauvage
Short 1/2oz simple syrup
2 Dashes Absinthe
1 Dash Peychaud's Bitters
