Fun fact: In Denmark we use our national flag as a celebratory flag as well, so especially on birthdays, christmas, new years, etc., you will often find a ridiculous amount of small Danish flags everywhere. It has nothing to do with nationalism or patriotism - it seemingly came after the First Schelswig War (1848-1851) where the flag changed status from 'state-exclusive' to public common property.

Another fun fact: During the Second Shleswig War, Denmark lost some land to Prussia, with the citizens herein being disallowed the use of the Danish flag. In protest some of them bred a pig breed to resemble the flag instead....
