FORGOTTEN SIMPLE PLEASURES
It was a super hot day today & as I walked past a drinks stall (old school 'ceduk' / scoop drinks), I thought ' OH MAN THAT WOULD BE NICE FOR THIS HOT HOT DAY!'. The second time I walked past the stall, I thought, okay lah buy a small cup je.
I stood behind a pakcik (slightly younger than my grandfather) with his pasar trolley. He was super excited to buy his bandung.
He told the kakak "Dik saya nak dua bandung. Letak dalam plastic dan ikatkan boleh?"
Kakak: "Tak pakai plastik lagi cik, pakai cawan macam gini" *shows the bubbletea kind of cup*
Pakcik (turning to me) "Oh! Ingatkan masih pakai plastik. Dulu letak je dalam plastik minum dengan straw eh! Sedap! Simple aje".
I smiled at him and nodded. I thought of how simple & delicious it was then & how we used to drink these ceduk drinks every time we go to the pasar. Such forgotten simple pleasures!
I thought 'pakcik you cute lah, like my father & grandfather'.
He gave me his excited smile again (like he could read my thoughts)! He also noticed my bulging stomach. Then he turned to the kakak, gave her a note & said "Takpe saya bayarkan untuk adik ni sekali".
I was too surprised to react. And only managed a quick, "eh cik, takpe!" He just said "takpe dik hajat saya hari ini. Cuaca panas. Awak minum, enjoy okay."
Such a simple sweet gesture from the pakcik to remind me of some forgotten #simplepleasures .Like making someone's day, sending good vibes, wishing someone well & just making a simple human connection with another.
(A good reminder to myself mostly!)
