“Changing habits hm… Well I like to think that reading is one of the best habits a person can get into so you’re already ahead of the game.” He offered in a friendly manner. “Somehow I think you would find Northanger Abbey quite intriguing. I’d be interested to hear your take on it when you are done but yes, by all means you are more than welcome to borrow it.”

“I don’t really read outside of the house usually so I suppose it wouldn’t have come up,” Adeline agreed. Elijah had never been her teacher but perhaps him being one had stopped her from getting to know him more properly, “You do? Which ones?”

“What has changed it today then?” Elijah questioned before he hummed and thought about the answer to Adeline’s question. “I hate to be predictable but Pride and Prejudice is one but also Sense and Sensibility, not to mention Northanger Abbey.” He offered up. “If you haven’t already read them, I would highly recommend and I’d be more than happy to lend you my copies if you wanted to test the waters of them.”

Adeline shrugged, “The nice weather, trying to change habits, feeling nostalgic, a couple of other things maybe. All I do on my breaks normally is smoke and eat so I thought maybe I’d change things up,” she explained, “I have a copy of Sense and Sensability. I don’t think I’ve ever read it though. Maybe I’ll give it a go. If you’re willing to part with your copy of Northanger Abbey for a bit, I wouldn’t mind reading it.”

Adeline stopped and tensed, “Run?” she hissed and turned to get right in hersister’s  face, “I didn’t run. They sent me away. They ripped me from my life because they wanted me to get in line and using me as their punching bag wasn’t working. The couple they sent me to? When they weren’t out doing Merlin knows what and leaving me alone for days, they were just as bad as mum and dad,” she had never told anyone that fact before, “You’re the one who knows fuck all. You think because you didn’t have to see me get cut up and bruised that it wasn’t happening there? So I came back here to people who actually cared about me, not people who pretend to for the sake of image. You want to see that as running away? Fine. What reason did I have to stay? To call it home? My parents beat me, my siblings turned a blind eye. You? You asked me to cover my injuries. You’re complicit,” she took a step back, “Let’s not pretend you care about my health and habits now. Not when I know you’re still wrapped around their fingers. I don’t care which one of you told them, I don’t care if you didn’t know before. You still know they did it. Percy reached out, made sure I was okay. What did you do? You certainly didn’t care about my health then. Has something changed?”

Still, given how wrapped around their fingers you are, you must have known that they knew,” Adeline replied and then scoffed, “Oh no, you being arrested is no skin off my back. Just warning you since you haven’t seemed to realise that they’re assholes,” she shrugged, “Good. I hope they spat in it,” she retorted, turning to walk away.
