what about a destiel au where they’re both horse riders? (more under cut to not take up too much room :P)
Castiel Novak isn’t a show rider, he doesn’t do races, contests/competitions, etc… He rides for fun and helps coach other riders and horses, too. He’s kinda a “free spirit/hippie/no worries/I like kale” kind of guy and his horse definitely compliments his personality. His horse (a grade horse he got on the side of the road for $50 because he looked like he was about to keel over) aptly named Steve, is high energy and playful. Castiel nursed him to health and raised him into a strong, capable, sturdy stallion. Steve keeps everyone on their toes (and has been known to nibble on them as well, so be careful and always wear shoes!).
Castiel is actually family to the people who own the stables he (and Dean) board at (Jimmy and Amelia own it now, but it was handed down by Amelia’s grandfather to them). So, Castiel works there four days a week for a reduced boarding fee. The stables are huge, too (I’m talking like 75-100 different people boarding their horse/horses at these stables plus the horses the stables owns), so Castiel also spends the first two weeks of June every year being the head counselor and activities director for the two week long mandatory summer camp for their new boarders. (Again, I don’t have deep knowledge about equestrian stuff or how stables work, but it’s fiction so…) Since the stables are so big and the land that the arenas and buildings/barns that make up the stables are on is hundreds of square miles in each direction, they have a very strict on loading process for new people wanting to board and only accept a limited number of people when they have the room. So, when they do admit new boarders, they require them to attend the summer camp to help settle their horses in to the new routine. The first week is the logistics side of the flow of the stables so all new people understand the flow of the place and things to do/things not to do, all that. And then the second week he splits people up into groups and has other counselors take them on basic tours of the land the stables owns, shows them trails they can ride, explains there are markers placed around to help guide people back if they get lost, etc… It’s a big stable and Castiel is really the person who makes sure things run smoothly the rest of the year.
Now, Dean on the other hand is essentially the opposite of Castiel. He’s a “proper and professional” rider who only feeds his huge Clydesdale, Miracle, the best of the best feed and is one of the best riders at the national level for several different categories of races and shows. (He’s best known for his flawless cross country riding, though. Which even with my small amount of knowledge I do know that is no small feat.) Dean is a professional rider who spends most of his time with Miracle. Whether that be practicing, riding for leisure, or just goofing around together, Dean generally never goes more than two days without seeing Miracle. And Miracle, if I had to choose one word to describe her it would be royal. She’s prim and proper, tall and regal—idk how else to describe it other than she gives off the vibes of an ancient and deeply loved and respected queen…but is also a bit of a prankster at heart. But the trust and love she has for Dean is very obvious and runs deep in both of them. (Think along the lines of like Kristoff and Sven, but not at cartoon-ized lol.)
They board their horses at the same stable, but they never cross paths. Cas knows of Dean of course, very few people in their community haven’t heard of the amazing and wonderful team that is Dean and Miracle that win every contes/race/event/show/etc… they enter. But Dean’s doesn’t even know Cas exists………until he’s in an pretty brutal car accident and can’t go see Miracle for several months as he’s laid up in the hospital and then has to go through physical therapy. It’s horrible—it’s his worst nightmare, being away from his best friend for so long. So when he’s finally through physical therapy and eagerly heads back to the stables to see that his horse… His horse is very visibly pregnant.
Turns out, one of the new hires (Claire, niece of Castiel and daughter of the stable owners) forgot to bring Miracle back into her stall before letting the other horses out.
Guess who ended up being completely smitten with Miracle?
Steve.
But! Guess who ended up being even more smitten with Steve? (Spoiler: it’s Miracle.) And the product of that mutual smitten-ness is due just in time for spring the next year.
Dean is not happy. And he’s even less happy once he properly meets Cas and Steve, because firstly, Steve spends a good half hour just standing and staring right at Dean with dead eyes and an empty brain as he licks the wooden post instead of the salt brick. And secondly, Dean is even less enthused that Castiel isn’t upset by this situation. Castiel seems excited, if anything, and his carelessness towards the whole thing grates on Dean’s last nerves because Miracle comes from a long line of gold medal winning horses—she’s purebred, she’s beautiful and elegant, she’s got poise and grace—and Steve just tripped over his own feet, face planted into the water trough, and then climbed into the trough to lay down!
If the world was perfect, Dean would say he could win the gold medal for most unhappy person in the entirety of existence. But, what’s done is done and now both Dean and Castiel have to learn to exist in close proximity and interact with some degree of kindness until Miracle and Steve’s foal can be weaned.
For Dean, that means almost two years of no jumping, no racing, no doing what he and Miracle were born to do and it’s crushing. But to make a long story short, Dean eventually begins to warm up to Castiel and Steve. It happens slowly, and then all at once, you know? The cheesy but very accurate way to describe falling in love with someone and the possibilities your future together holds. So yeah, Dean warms up to Cas and he warms up to Steve, too. And when Lincoln—Claire got to name him since she was the reason for Steve and Miracle’s…well, miracle—when Lincoln takes his first step on his own, Dean ends up just blurting out he loves Cas. The sleep deprivation and adrenaline rush from helping deliver a foal are partly to blame for the outburst, of course, so after Castiel’s done kissing the breath out of Dean he vows to write the two a thank you note because of course Cas feels the same way.
an AU where Cas and Dean live in the same apartment building and Cas has a cat. she keeps getting out and getting into Dean’s apartment while he’s at work, so Dean (who is very much allergic to cats) comes home to his house covered in white cat hair and the offensive fluffy ball of fur purring and rubbing up against his legs as soon as the door opens. whenever this happens Dean has to pick up the cat and manage not to cuddle her too much as he carries her back to Cas’s
obviously once Dean had met Cas for the first time he started working on a way to cure his allergy because one of those times—when his nose stops snotting and sneezing, his lungs actually allow him to breathe, and his eyes don’t waterfall tears straight down his face and into his shirt collar… One of those times he’s going to get the words “would you like to go on a date with me?” out and it’s gonna be happily ever after for them
I enjoy designing outfits. I was going for an original character at first, but then SPN brain took over. I’m not entirely sure about the colouring of the sash thingy with the bow.
In any case, while doodling this I had All Things In Succession on the brain again (but it could be any kind of AU.)
Another doodle prompt was tired/ sleepy Cas. I’m rereading All Things In Succession by Everandanon at the moment so younger Cas dreaming of honey cakes and Dean impressed by Cas’ knightly strength happened.

And in this au, you know someone’s A/B/O status as soon as their born. Obviously Dean’s an alpha and Castiel’s an omega, and they’ve been almost inseparable since the moment they met.
I don’t have it all planned out but I do know that Castiel and his parents live in South Dakota near Karen’s sister Ellen and her daughter (Castiel’s cousin) Jo. And Dean and his parents live all over the place because they have to move around a lot due to John’s job. But twice a year (summer and winter), Castiel, Bobby, Karen, and Dean, Mary, and John all get together for a vacation to wherever they choose and it’s practically the only times of the year that Dean and Cas really look forward to because they’re best friends and are pretty miserable when they’re not able to see each other. (It’s too early to say they’re true mates, buuuut they definitely are.)
I don’t have much planned out other than that and a few cute scenes during some of the vacations where Dean and Castiel are being bffs and having a blast because they get to see each other, but what I can see in my head are some of the outfits Castiel wears and I have never been more upset to not be able to draw because the outfits I’m picturing??? 😭 He’s so cute, too cute. I keep trying to make these fics longer, but they keep just not working out that way and it's not ideal. I'm trying, but not succeeding, so I guess try I shall continue to do! This was his favorite way to start the day: having Dean gently rutting their hips together and whispering little nothing into his ear until he opened his eyes and began moving in tandem; his head cradled comfortably by the two hundred dollar pillows Dean said they needed to get because they were on sale for seventy five dollars (and Dean was right, they were very comfortable and helped a lot during rough sex); the sheets just barely staying up on Dean’s hips; and the rays from the morning sun streaming in from their window lighting up Dean like a God. Or an angel…something divine and beautifully dominant.
On mornings like this, it was nice to be comfortable in his bed as Dean moved on top of him. Dean didn’t like Castiel to move much on mornings like this, because he wanted to show Castiel how much he loved him. Castiel wasn’t complaining, and he would lay back for Dean, only allowing himself the relief of rocking down to meet Dean’s hips every handful of thrusts. All the while, he would watch the man he loved slave away to make him feel good. He’d watch as Dean worked up a sweat, reveling in the way the man’s skin glistened and glowed. It always blew his mind and made him question Dean’s existence in that he had to be more than human. There was no way just a human could be so beautiful, so powerful, so fucking perfect.

“Is he at the mall alone?” Josephine asked.
“Maybe,” Krissy said, continuing to stare at him as the line moved. No one around him seemed to be paying any attention to him, so Krissy figured he was either alone or if he came with anyone they weren’t around at the moment. “He’s definitely standing in line alone.”
“Huh… Should we go say hi or something?”
“Would he even want to see us?” Krissy asked, sparing Josephine a quick glance. “I mean, he sees enough of us at school. I’m sure that he wants to keep his weekends for himself.”
“I can’t argue with that logic,” Josephine said softly, “Well, maybe when we go to leave—”

“Yeah, the reviews were really good so I just got a pair for jogging, too,” Josephine said.
“For sure, they’ve done wonders for my partner. The arch support is of the gods, apparently,” Mr. Winchester said, “‘Course, then I was asked if I wanted to get a pair for myself so we both could go jogging, but I personally don’t see the point in running. I know it’s healthy for you, but, God, at what cost?” he joked, earning a laugh from the three teens.
“Well, we were just about to go get food…” Krissy said, glancing from Josephine to Aidan and then settling back on Mr. Winchester. “Did you want to join us?” she asked hesitantly, trying her hardest to keep the wince off her face at how awkward that was.
Mr. Winchester smiled but shook his head. “Thank you, that’s very kind, but I ate not too long ago and if I eat again and ruin my dinner, I’m gonna be in trouble,” he said, looking up around the food court before his eyes settled on a restaurant. “I actually see my better half right now, so if you’ll excuse me… It was really nice talking with you three.”
“Yeah, you, to Mr. Winchester,” Krissy said as the man began to maneuver around them.
“I’ll see y’all on Monday,” he said, and then looked at Aidan and gave him a faux-stern look. “Don’t forget your calculus homework.”
“I started it!” Aidan protested.
“Finish it. I believe in you, man, you can do it.”
“Wha—hey! Why aren’t you getting on Krissy or Jo’s case?” Aidan huffed. Mr. Winchester waved him off and smiled playfully.
“I know they got it done in class yesterday,” he said, giving a final wave before he turned around and headed off.
Aidan plopped down with a humph as Krissy and Josephine laughed to themselves.
“We didn’t even talk about school,” Aidan said, “I was just getting a couple candles for my mom and—” he stopped short as he looked up and Krissy and Josephine turned to see what he was looking at and their jaws just about dropped to the floor.
They watched as Mr. Winchester slid an arm around Mr. Novak’s waist.
“Oh. My. God,” Josephine gasped, and Krissy was in the same boat.
Mr. Novak—strict, no nonsense, quick to the point, calm and cold, punctual Mr. Novak with Mr. Winchester—fun loving, bubbly, easily distracted, upbeat and empathetic Mr. Winchester.
Mr. Novak was the partner Mr. Winchester was always talking about?!
“No fucking way,” Aidan said before he burst out laughing. “There’s no way!”
Krissy was once again shocked as she saw her teachers share a tender kiss that she had to look away from after just a moment because it felt like an intrusion.
“Apparently there is a way,” Josephine said, shrugging as she looked back at Krissy. “I say good for the both of them. They deserve each other, they balance each other out.”
Krissy smiled, looking back at her teachers to see Mr. Novak smiling so brightly it lit up the entire food court as Mr. Winchester moved behind him and wrapped his arms around him. Mr. Novak leaned back into his embrace and the two of them looked so happy it was impossible not to be happy for them.
“Agreed,” she said, nodding to herself as she gathered her stuff. “Good for them.”

“How are you so calm?!” Castiel asked, pacing back and forth along the passenger side of his car—his currently broken down car. “We’re in the middle of nowhere, my car just died in the middle of the road, we had to push it to the shoulder, the sun is setting, our phones aren’t working—oh, and did I mention we’re in the middle of fucking nowhere and it’s nighttime?!”
“We’re not in the middle of nowhere and it’s beginning to be nighttime,” Dean said way too fucking calmly! Castiel wanted to strangle this man. How could he be so calm right now!?
“We’re stranded in the mountains!”
“We’re on the side of the only road up to the cabins, Cas,” Dean said, poking his head out to give Castiel a stern look. “Charlie and Gilda are coming tomorrow to help us set everything up. Worse comes to worst, we camp overnight in the car.”
“That’s not the point!”
“That’s the only point. We’re not stranded, we’re just stuck,” Dean said, raising an eyebrow at Castiel. “Now stop pacing so I can work.”
Castiel whipped around to look at Dean. “Work on what?! Not the car, because the engine is at the other end!” he said, stomping around to see what it was Dean could be doing rooting around in the back of his car. When he rounded to see that Dean had taken both their sleeping bags and their pillows and made a makeshift bed—and a comfy one at that, Castiel froze.
“I’ve got some games in my suitcase and movies on my phone. What do you want to do after we eat?” Dean asked, pulling Castiel over by his arm to sit him down.
“After we eat?” Castiel questioned, because he hadn’t packed any food. Dean reached behind Castiel and pulled out a cooler which Castiel one-hundred-percent did not remember Dean putting in his car earlier. Dean flipped open the lid and tilted it for Castiel to see a couple sandwiches and sodas sitting perfectly packed in the cooler.
“There’s a couple sprites for you, coke for me. Plus, some water,” Dean said.
Castiel looked into the cooler as a warm feeling spread through his chest. “You made…”
“Like a boy scout,” Dean said, giving Castiel a salute, “Always prepared.” Castiel reached into the cooler and pulled out a sandwich. “Ham and cheese with swiss, just like you like. I even used dijon mustard instead of yellow ‘cause I know you don’t like yellow.”
Castiel looked up at Dean, about ready to begin showering him with thanks when he turned on his heels and darted away.
“Dean?”
“One second, just start eating. You get grumpy when you’re hungry,” Dean said, and Castiel heard the passenger door open and Dean rustling some stuff around. “And that is why…” he trailed off and then Castiel heard the door close and Dean came around to stand back in front of him, holding a Snickers bar out for him. “I got you this,” he said, grinning happily.
Castiel blinked for a moment before he glared up at Dean. “You think you’re funny,” he said, and Dean just smiled wider.
“You’re not you when you’re hungry,” he said, and Castiel glared harder.
“So funny,” Castiel said, but he still snatched the snickers bar from Dean and began eating his sandwich as Dean sat down and grabbed his own dinner.
“Alright, let's make a game plan,” Dean said, taking a bite before continuing, “I say we finish eating, watch a movie or two, maybe some hanky-panky—”
“Dean.”
“—maybe no fooling around, okay, fine. Either way, movies, then sleep.”
Castiel nodded to that plan, reaching back to grab the first drink his hand found.
“Sounds good,” he said, taking a drink and sighing internally at the coolness the water spread down his chest. “Solid plan.”
“Yeah, I made it,” Dean said, and Castiel shot a glare at him even as a smile spread across his face. “Always prepared.”
“You’re insufferable.”
“I could say the same thing about you before food,” Dean said, smiling so fondly at Castiel that it made his heart thud. “But, even if I am insufferable, you’re marrying me tomorrow anyway.”
Castiel sighed, smiling to himself because yes; yes, he was marrying Dean tomorrow. “That is true,” he said, scooting over to lean into Dean’s side. Even if Dean was insufferable, Castiel wouldn't want to suffer with anyone else for the rest of his life, anyway. “That is true.”

And seeing as they'd already finished the demo and reconstruction, now it was just time for interior detailing— i.e., painting. And Dean was ready to get on with it.
Castiel and he were facing each other, both in the middle of their unfurnished living room. Dean was sitting on the floor with his legs stretched out and parted just enough for Castiel to kneel between them. A couple empty beer bottles were placed on the stone ledge of the fireplace and hundreds of paint swatches scattered on the ground around them. They’d been at this for the past hour and it had led them here, finally, with Dean holding two swatches up for Castiel to see.
“So… Which one for the color of the garage?” he asked. Castiel pursed his lips in thought, bobbing his head from side to side as he switched between the two swatches.
“Hm. They are both good colors,” Castiel said to himself, humming as Dean sighed deeply.
“Babe, they’re basically the same color.”
Castiel stopped moving and narrowed his eyes at Dean. “Have you been tested for colorblindness? They’re very different colors, Dean. One is blue and the other is green.”
“They’re both teal,” Dean said, moving both swatches to one hand so Castiel could see them one on top of the other. “They’re both blue and they’re both green. They’re teal.”
Castiel’s eyebrows shot up and he snatched the one that had been in Dean’s left hand.
“This one!” he said, holding it up for Dean to see. “This one is better!”
Dean smiled. “Perfect! I agree. Let’s go get the paint and get to paintin'!”
Castiel rolled his eyes as he shook his head and smiled fondly. “We still have to choose the color for the guest bedroom, the living room, and the dining room.”
Dean’s shoulders dropped and he laid back on the carpet, groaning as he threw an arm over his eyes.
“I just want to paint,” he bemoaned, “I built these walls. I deserve to paint them.”
Castiel didn’t respond, but Dean felt nimble fingers undoing the button of his jeans.
“What are you doing?” Dean asked quickly, rising up onto his elbows to look at Castiel. “Cas, what are you—”
“You deserve a little reward, don’t you think?” Castiel said, giving Dean a perfect little smirk.
“A little reward?” Dean said, lifting his hips to help Castiel as he tugged his jeans and boxers down to his thighs.
“Uh-huh. Every room we get done, I’ll give you a reward,” Castiel said, leaning over to kiss down Dean’s stomach. “And if we get all the colors picked out today…”
“I’ll get a big reward?” Dean said, gasping as Castiel nipped at his hip bone.
“Yes,” he said, looking up at Dean through his lashes, “You think you can get through the rest of the rooms if your ultimate reward back at the hotel is a night of hot, kinky, passionate sex?”
“In whatever position I want?”
“Whatever position you want,” Castel said.
Dean breathed out roughly, nodding jerkily as his response. Castiel smiled up at him, giving him a wink before he set to work.
