Imagine if you will, for some reason or another, possibly something of an Alternative Universe/Reality, that Pennywise is unable to touch or hurt his victims if they have their eyes closed. Focusing on that sense of belief.  After all, if you don’t see it, it’s not real. If you don’t believe in it, it isn’t real and has no power over you, which has some of the elements that the IT story is about. 

Imagine that you have your eyes squeezed shut, and you’re convincing yourself with everything you have, that Pennywise isn’t real. He isn’t there, he isn’t real, and he is unable to hurt you. You know in your heart that your belief is flimsy, and isn’t as strong as you would like it to be. He knows that too.

Imagine that Pennywise is circling you like the hungry clown that he is, growling his frustration, and doing everything in his power to whisper in your ear, to convince you to open your eyes.  Claws or hands inches away from you, tracing your shape without actually touching. Open your eyes. Just a bit. It’s not going to hurt if you open them just a crack. 

Definitely don’t imagine that trepidation and absolute terror of having that ancient evil voice whispering in your ear, being able to smell him, hear him, and being lured into just looking at him. But you know that if you do, it will be the last thing that you ever do.
