This is the interview I conducted with Sir. Michael Landicho
Me, Adriel Thadeus V. Reyes, with Sir. Michael Landicho, the interviewee.
Reflection
Disasters are never wanted to occur in any place in the world. But it is something that everyone should be prepared for.
Its not everyday that we get to live a comfortable life. And not everyone has the same resources as the other.
But with gathered forces, the will to live, and the courage to help one another. I am hopeful that the resiliency of the Filipino people is truly an iron will.
Yet we must not be lazy in preparing for what may come. Nobody knows if and when a disaster will occur. We must not be blind onto what is to come. Ignorance cannot be to tolerated when the life of everyone depends on it.
I believe that the government must not be hesitant in providing these assets for the people. As it is for everyone’s betterment, and for the country.
Even I admit that not everyone follows the protocol of discipline. But when you start with one, others will follow. As I reflect on this interview, I strive for myself to be a better equipped person onto not only discipline, but also in protecting others rather than myself.
Because that to me is what the NSTP program means to me. To become a better version of yourself.
Capacity and Disaster Management Assessment
When a disaster strikes, the Barangay is prepared for such events.
They have acquired a rescue team that is prepared to serve to the people in need.
Furthermore, they have a covered court to provide a temporary shelter, as well as a multi-purpose building for those in need of it.
All of these resources gathered are for everyone in the Barangay if ever there is a disaster at hand.
Vulnerability, Elements and People at Risk Assessment
Sir. Michael states that the people are the biggest factor when it comes to the risk of being prone to a disaster.
That the discipline of the people in the Barangay is a huge factor on how effective their plan is to be implemented.
Again, the Barangay keeps tabs on which areas are most prone and affected when it comes to said disasters.
These disasters, man-made or natural, can be resolved. It only depends on the resilience of everyone on the Barangay. Therefore, despite the undisciplined values of some people, the Barangay officials are determined in pursuing the greater good for everyone.
Hazard Identification
During the conducted interview, a variety of hazards was cited. Particularly, natural disasters.
Such disasters are as follows: Flood, Typhoon, Earthquakes, Fires
Sir. Michael Landicho, the Secretary of the Barangay, is also the Head of the DRRM Task Force
He stated that when it comes to Typhoons, they wait for the announcement of PAGASA
As for other natural disasters, the others cannot be predicted, but can be prevented, such as fires. Other disasters rely on preparedness, such as Earthquakes and Floods.
With all stated, still, these hazards are recorded statistically on which specific areas are mostly prone to these disasters. Hence, the Barangay have prepared a plan on how to prevent and prepare for such events.
