Listen to their incredible overtone singing here.
Considered to be national treasures in South Africa, the members of Ngqoko are masters of the African bow (ancestors of the Brazilian berimbau) and the only practitioners of the extraordinary 3,000-year-old vocal style known as split tone singing (a highly developed form of overtone singing). This ensemble is one of the few guardians of Xhosa culture, maintaining the survival of indigenous South African traditions. Over the past two decades, Ngqoko has taken its music from obscurity to worldwide acclaim. Edited from: worldmusic.org

Oliver Mtukudzi, or "Tuku" as his fans lovingly call him, plays spirited music, born from the soul of Zimbabwe. He's been recording since the late 1970s, with about as many albums as his age: 60. Here, Mtukudzi performs songs from the mournful but celebratory Sarawoga in the NPR Music offices.
Oooo, check out this man with his stripped-down band.
