Not a secret family, you're just oblivious. Part 10.5 – baby days
It had somehow become less odd watching the babies behind the glass. Tim glanced around the nursery…not lab, Danny was insistent. His children…not clones they were their own people…were kept in a nursery not a lab. They were babies not experiments.
Tim remembered that argument still. It was lucky it coincided with one of Jazz's visits otherwise he wouldn’t have known what he had done so wrong. But Jazz had loosely explained that Danny had trauma related to labs. Specifically his own parents labs. Of course he didn’t want his children to be in a lab.
Tim had gone shopping that afternoon and bought nursery decorations. He set them up while Danny slept. The feeling of home in the nursery helped make it feel less odd watching the twins in their incubation tubes.
It was odd the way things quickly became the rule with young children. Tim was always the one to feed Ellie. It was only because she preferred her formula room temperature as opposed to Dan who refused it if it wasn’t heated so it took Danny longer to make. But now that it was primarily Tim who fed Ellie and Danny who fed Dan it all felt off if they changed it up. Dan wanted to sit up more when he ate and he was more stubborn about burping. It didn’t mean Tim didn’t want to feed his son, he did whenever Dan needed to eat while Danny was out. It just meant that the picture in his mind of his family is the four of them on the couch, Danny holding their son and Tim holding their daughter.
“Remind me why we decide to have their Pediatrician visit a week apart from their Frostbite visit?" Danny asked his boyfriend. They were leaving for the twins three month check up in the ghost zone. It was such a hassle getting all of them ready to leave and be gone awhile.
“Because last time they both got upset and wouldn’t nap between and Frostbite could barely do any checks because their emotions were so out of sync.”
Danny laughed at the look on his boyfriend’s face. Even after six months Tim wasn’t used to having to get up early so they could gone on their walk to get fresh air with the twins before the sun or heat got too harsh. The twins were especially sensitive to heat do to their primary source of ecto being his own ice core. “Hey you were the one who volunteered for this. You are also the one who insists on coming with us, I would do fine on my own with them.”
“I know. But then I get less time with you three.” Tim whined as pressed his face into Danny’s side. He would lay down for a nap when they got back, it was a lucky thing having one of them that could stay up at night and be fine and one who thrived in the mornings.
Babies with powers were a chaotic nightmare, Tim had decided. Just last week he had watched Ellie take her first steps. They were stumbling and awkward but she made her way from his lap to Danny’s, and proceeded to slap her brother and make him cry.
Since then they had been keeping a close eye on Dan waiting for him to join his sister in toddling. Dan had apparently decided walking was beneath him though because he had gone straight to flying. Tim watched as his boyfriend tried to coax their son down from the ceiling. “You know he gets this from you right?”
Tim knew that you had to watch what you said around toddlers. He had always figured it just meant don’t cuss. But it had now been a week of his nearly two year olds repeating bits of the conversation he’d had with jazz while planning to propose and he was stressed.
