Email Template to Local Reps Demanding the Removal of Confederate Statues
Dear (Put the Name of Your Senator/Congressman/Congresswoman Here),
My name is (Put Your Name Here) and I am from (Put Your Town/City/County/State Here). I am sending this email because I believe that the Confederate statue in our (Put Town/City/County/State Here) needs to be removed. The statue I am speaking of is located at (Put the Exact Address/Location if Possible Here). I believe that having a Confederate statue is not okay, and gives people the wrong impression of our (Put Town/City/County/State Here). We, as a community, are better than this.
Confederate statues represent something that should not be glorified in our (Put Town/City/State/County Here), as our (Put Town/City/County/State Here) should be able to recognize this and act accordingly. Confederate statues glorify those that rebelled against our country because they could not get what they wanted. I do not believe that we should glorify people as American heroes if they worked so hard to not be considered Americans. Glorifying these people makes us as a community look bad.
This statue is also harmful to the people of color that live in our (Put City/State/Town/County Here). Although many claim that the Civil War was about state’s rights, that is not the case. The Civil War was fought about the ability to continue the practice of slavery in the south. Do you think that it is easy for people of color to see a statue on a daily basis of a person that fought in a war just to ensure they didn’t gain basic human rights? That is a feeling that no one should have to experience.
Not only is this statue is harmful to the people of our community, but it also makes our community look bad, and glorifies actions that should not be celebrated. Actions should be taken to remove this statue as soon as possible.
Thank you for your time (Put the Name of the Senator/Congressman/Congresswoman Here),
