Yulamog wishes you all a very horrifying holiday season!
Yulamog’s holiday spirit lives on in all of us. May he rest in peace. Emra-Claus is still with us to spread some holiday dread, though!
Creature- Eldrazi Ho-ho-horror
I'm surprised nobody asked it tyet, but why are aetherborns black?
They embody selfish consumerism.
Hey you guys remember Expeditions? Yea we’re getting those every set now, under the new name Masterpiece Series. Say hello to the Masterpiece Series for Kaladesh, the Kaladesh Inventions.
Now, are these gonna be Standard legal? Because I’m not sure I want to play in a standerd where Mana Crypt is legal.
Same rules as the Expeditions. They are only legal in the sets where their other printings are legal. So you can play your Kaladesh Inventions Gearhulk in Standard, but not the Mana Crypt.
You can play any that you open in Limited, however!
Magic: the Gathering - 3D ALTS
Some absolutely lovely work in these 3D alters from the brilliant Yoma (@zax_yoma).
mtg-spot you would love these~

So here’s the story about the Anteater type. It’s short and it’s sad, so be prepared.
During the grand creature type update in 2007, a bunch of creature types were eliminated and eight new ones were added. Of the new creature types, anteater was only added only to Prowling Pangolin, which isn’t an anteater, but not to something like Spitting Gourna, which clearly is one and is even from the same set…
And that’s all that ever happened with anteaters in Magic. The situation wasn’t great, and so in 2015 after 8 years of Prowling Pangolin being lonely as the only anteater even when it clearly wasn’t an anteater, the type was quietly killed off with the Fate Reforged update to Oracle because of the type’s lack of use.
But don’t cry for the Prowling Pangolin; it got reprinted in Eternal Masters with some sweet new art and without the incorrect Anteater type!
I’ll be honest, I was feeling pretty proud of my little joke, but the content of @magicjudge’s reblog has increased the quality of this thread by approximately 5000%.
I wasn’t expecting a fascinating history lesson on one of Magic’s lesser-known creature types tonight, but that’s just the kind of thing that happens when I hang out with you awesome people here on Tumblr. :)

Is it just me or is it odd reading old messages left behind after a card gets banned…
Old Magic Rules: A Horrible Rat’s Maze
So, back in the ancient days of the early to mid 1990′s, Magic didn’t have a comprehensive rules system. The game began with basic rules like for any other game, with the understanding that a group of players would decide among themselves how a situation worked if it wasn’t clear.Â
(The original Alpha/Beta rulebook, whose text you can read here:Â http://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/original-magic-rulebook-2004-12-25)
No one could have expected the amazing success that magic became so quickly, however. With more people getting introduced to Magic and more cards being printed, the need for official rulings on certain timings and interactions became increasingly important. These rulings were given by Magic’s first “rules manager” Beth Moursund, a.k.a. BethMo. She was the very first WotC netrep on usenet and her rulings were the closest thing to official policy that existed at the time.
Over time, these rules built up into an awful tangled mess, especially when it came to timing and priority. Early Magic didn’t have the stack, rather there were batches and at certain points a batch became complete and all of the spells and abilities in it would resolve without anyone being able to act until that batch was finished resolving.
These complicated rules were aptly illustrated in issue #9 of the Duelist, which featured this mindbending series of charts illustrating the timing rules:
So yeah… a little bit painful…
Other “highlights” of the early rules included:
Damage prevention windows
Creatures and other permanents being “on the way to the graveyard”
Combat not being its own separate phase, but just something the active player could go to at any point during their main phase
If you’re interested in learning more about this madness for some reason, you can read a copy of the Fifth Edition rules online here: http://hudecekpetr.cz/other/rulebooks/rulebook-fifth-1997-03/index.html
Luckily, WotC came to their senses in 1999 and decided to overhaul the rules completely for Sixth Edition, finally giving us the first version of the Comprehensive Rules and streamlining spells and abilities with the Stack that we all know and love today.Â
While the rules have changed a bit since then, there hasn’t been a set of rules changes even approaching the magnitude of the Sixth Edition rules changes. (The Magic 2010 changes were a minor tremor in comparison.)
Good heavens…
RIP in pieces old Magic players
At least one person died over a rules dispute I know it

Emrakul, The Promised End - Made from Super Sculpey polymer clay and painted with acrylics. I put a pink LED in the eye socket. Super pleased with how this came out! The picture quality isn’t the greatest unfortunately.Â
Awesome art by Eric Deschamps. Order their prints from his website.
