Sometimes you’re just minding your own business on a regular day, and then it SMACKS you out of nowhere 😭
And it doesn’t just stop at Varric too, I’ve got a whole dang list over at patreon… ;3;
ten years, a hundred years from now, someone like me will love someone like you, and there will be no templars to tear them apart.
Hope this helps
A review by a Terry Pratchett biographer. Some good stuff in here.
There was supposed to be a lot of the late Terry Pratchett in Good Omens 3, the finale to Amazon’s successful apocalyptic series based on th
k but if u haven’t seen the guy ritchie sherlock films u don’t get it but they fully wrote holmes as in love w watson. like undeniably in love. In the first ten mins holmes refuses to take a Single case for three months bc watson won’t go with him. he locks himself in his room for two straight weeks, drugs the dog, and shoots the wall for attention bc watson is moving out. he says the world outside his room has nothing to offer until watson asks him to go to dinner & immediately agrees. he humiliates mary bc he’s jealous she can marry watson and he can’t. he goes to a fight club to Feel Something bc he knows john is slipping away from him. there’s never any “oh well just bros being bros” the whole tone towards it is just “ofc he’s in love w watson that’s one of his defining character traits”
as “action packed blockbuster” as these films are
1. sherlock isn’t portrayed as an emotionless machine or sociopath. actually, one of the big problems he faces is he feels too much (so he self medicates self harms and self destructs). he does weird experiments on the dog and annoys mrs hudson and has funny lil disguises
2. watson is not only a BAMF but genuinely loves working cases w sherlock (the adrenaline the mystery the violence) and genuinely matches sherlock’s freak even if he won’t admit it
3. they are both in love with other, both mad about it, and both refuse to vocalize it. once mary understands that john needs sherlock as much as sherlock needs john, she nudges them in a direction that they can both at least internally realize the depth of their feelings if not to each other. she doesn’t get jealous, just shrugs and starts saying “this is my husband john and the man snorting coke off a corpse is john’s husband sherlock”
I’m also not wearing rose colored glasses about them being in love, this is what jude law said about them
Crowley: “I wish for my miracling powers back.”
God: “Okey dokey, done.”
Crowley: “Miracle time, angel, let’s fucking go.”
Aziraphale: “Miracle?”
Crowley: “Together. No holding back.”
A: (catching on) “Oh, yes! We can channel remarkable power together!”
(They hold hands)
God: (suddenly regretting this) “Wait what”
A: “Thank you both for your services, but they’re no longer required. Cheerio.”
C: (huge toothy grin) “Wasn’t nice knowing you. At all.”
(They move their free hands, just as God and Satan are both lunging toward them; screen flashes white, holds there)
And instead of the human AU, we use that time to have Crowley and Aziraphale strolling through that blankness together, discussing the parameters of rekindled existence without Heaven and Hell. They decide to allow their fellow angels and demons to be resurrected as shepherds, guiding human souls to redemption after death.
Closing scene is cozy domesticity in the bookshop, maybe a brief consult with Dagon and Uriel about a specific human soul, A and C give them sage advice to guide the soul toward an epiphany of empathy and compassion. They look out the window together at a restored Whickber Street, arms around each other’s waists, A rests his head on C’s shoulder, long pan back, ROLL CREDITS
VAVOOM, SORTED, LOVE FUCKING WINS YOU UNBELIEVABLE TOSSERS
One last complaint about GO3, I swear
I wouldn't have minded that ending if it had been done well, and it really hadn't.
There's not even a tiny shred of good writing in there. Why choose to reset the world, like there's literally no set up for that in the previous episodes. None. Why not go back and restore everything? What about Adam, Shadwell, Madame Tracy, Dog, Newton and Anathema? Poor Jesus? Everyone else? The argument about lack of Free Will makes zero sense after we witnessed Aziraphale and Crowley's antics (tell me it was God's will to have Her angel indulge in wine and sushi, I dare you), and especially after we saw Adam rewrite the reality! Like. What.
Look, I love me some tragedy. I love suffering. But it has to make sense for the characters, the plot! I sobbed during Doomsday (DW), cried after the Vault quest (FFXIV), broke down at the end of Nona the Ninth, but all in all, all of these were simply delicious pieces of art and I had fun - the suffering just enhanced the experience, and highlighted my love for these characters.
I am legit shocked anybody considers GO3 to be a well written ending with all those plot holes and OOC moments, but would love to hear from those who do, because hey, I still want to understand. Maybe I am overlooking something.
about the farewell finger-kiss. i've seen some people argue that this was a better option than a normal kiss as it was more delicate and subtle, which means that it also was 'going beyond showing normal physical attraction'. and yes, as supernatural immortal beings they definitely are 'beyond' a lot of stuff. however. i can't help but think that s2 set up something that was just natural for us to expect. crowley kissed aziraphale out of desperation and now they deserved to be allowed to kiss out of love. honestly, if this 12 second long kiss from s2 had never been a thing, i wouldn't feel this disappointed by the kiss now. but i've seen the explanation for it from michael and david (and sorry, i don't have neither the screenshots nor any link to the interview). they said that after the s2 kiss, kissing now wouldn't have this much meaning. as in, the kiss has already happened, so all the next ones would just water it down. and i can't agree. as i said before, the first kiss was out of desperation, it happened quickly and wasn't really thought-through by crowley. but now, it would be a completely different thing, finally just loving each-other freely, for the first time.
i kind of try not to think about the fact that this situation wouldn't be a thing were they a straight couple. do you ever see people saying that some straight pairing shouldn't kiss cause they are beyond that? i don't know
God works hard but ao3 writers work way fucking harder apparently
Literal track 1 of his first album is Zuviel Hitze, a song about losing someone you cared about to drugs. One of the interesting things to me about Falco is the dichotomy of this initial attitude of condemnation towards drug use in his songs while in his personal life it was spiralling out of control.
His later albums don't focus on it as much and treat drug use more casually, but I think it's telling that his final single Out of the Dark really addresses the futile desire of living in addiction.
RIP Hans Hoelzel, you deserved better.
From the bottom of my heart: Thank fucking god you wrote CoT. Your series has always been a joy to have in the GO fandom, but it’s never going to be more needed than now <3
One thing I genuinely loved was Adam's appearance, even if it was for a split second. I missed the book/season 1 characters so much and felt like the show lost much of its whimsy without Anathema/witchfinder army/the kids.
sorry but s2 aziraphale did not hold trembling fingers to his lips thinking do it again because he wanted to boop crowley on the lips with his fingies
Tamsyn Muir Oxford Speaker Event
hello locked tomblr! i was at the tamsyn muir event in oxford - here are my notes i've tried to group them thematically rather than chronologically, and to point out spoilers when i can. there are some parts that i missed/didn't hear correctly - i would appreciate it if others at the event correct me :D
Key takeaways
Alecto is still being written! Muir was reluctant to say a year, so it will probably be more than that
Alecto won’t be written in a Biblical style, and there will be multiple POVs. It will mostly be told from Harrow’s POV (I hope I heard that right)
Muir loves the idea of a TLT videogame
Muir’s not yet done with Floralinda
watching twin peaks is hard because sometimes you think 'these characters could use some therapy'. and then you remember that some of them did seek out professional help but their only option was this
Dean is loved. And he’s known it for 2,000 days (1,000 days ago)
2,000 days…
Feels like longer
Feels like less
Feels just right
