Hill didn’t have the speed over Rodgers for clear reasons and took the hit into her shoulder. She took a step back and shook out her arm. “Same, Rodgers. Maybe I should come to you like Nat would.”

“I really don’t think anything here is for the best, Carol.” Hill brushed her fingers through her hair, as a tick to calm her from her anger. “Let’s just say any place is better than this place. I don’t know why I am even here to be honest. Stark and Carter don’t need me here.”

“Harsh? No.” Emma fought the eye roll, “I am nice.” When she wanted to be. “Of course you meant to offend me, try harder than me next time. Oh no? you don’t blindly follow the organization?“ She made a light humph, “Right, the telepath doesn’t know anything. Did you need something or did you just come to take up my time?”
Maria slipped into one of the chairs in Emma’s office and crossed her fingers together. “Yes, oddly nice, which worries me.” Hill didn’t even try to stop her eye roll. “Go ahead, read my mind. Does it look like I follow so blindly? That I cam here without any question what so ever? I’m an open book, Frost. I’m not scared of you.” Maria came to make a deal something like she did before for the mutants. “I’m wondering if you’d be interested in a deal.”

“There’s a difference between being realistic and dramatic.” Hill dropped her hands to her lap. “You are training; it is fine that you are making mistakes. That’s why I am here, to teach you to do better.”

“A job?” He pushed for more information, curious about this new woman. “Me? Somebody I used ta call a friend stole something from me. It’s in the town. I need it back. I can’t leave until I have it.”
Maria pulled out her gun, and wiped the dirt of her most valuable possession. A quick turn and spilled it back in to its spot on her hip. “I am the sharpest shooter in miles. I’m hired to do jobs others ain’t willin’ to themselves.” She smiled and looked at the man. “Seems like you have a problem on your hands.”
"Knock, Knock, Hill. I brought coffee."
“I appreciate it, Castle, but I know better. What do you want?”
Hill laughed. “Yeah, same. Sometimes orders are a bunch of bull.” Maria looked down and then back up to Castle. “Let;s just say the teacher should not be doing one-on-one practice with students who have no training.”

“Townies are quick ta smile and even quicker ta shoot an outsider.” He went back to chewing on the dried meat strip. He watched her get settled in front of the flames. “There are other towns, ones more open ta newcomers. Or do ya have something in the area goin for ya.”
“Doubtful.” She took a deep breath. “This town...I don’t feel as if I could leave. I have a job to do.” Maria thought hard again as things didn’t make sense. Before registering the man’s existence again. “What’d ya here for?”

Emma smirked, “Sweetheart, if I’m gonna to be fucked one way or another…might as well make it the lucrative type no?” Her head moved toward the other tables, “An’ it ain’t a bust from the looks of those newcomers.”
“Good for you, darlin’ Some of us respect our self-worth.” Maria sat at the bar and ordered herself a drink from the bartender. She scanned the area for the person in interest of completing her services. Grabbing her drink, she smiled.

Shaw followed suit as she did and holstered his weapon. He motioned for her to join him. “Ya can’t be too careful out here.” He poked at the fire to stir it back to life. “Then what brings ya out here ta the middle of nowhere?”

“Fine, however ya not the only one with a job to do.” Hill rolled her eyes before heading to the bar. “I hope at lease you get some pleasure from what you do. It’s...” Maria cracked a smile. “It seems like a bust.”

In response Shaw went for his own gun. “And here we are pointin’ guns at each other.” He looked her over. “Then I want ya ta put yer gun down. Can’t say I take kindly ta that kinda thing when I’m on my own. In the middle of nowhere.”
Maria nodded before she released her hand from the handle of her gun and lifted both hands up. “Fair enough.” Hill lowered her hands to her sides. “Being alone is all I know.”

“I ain’t movin. I have a job to do too.” Hill kicked her boots up onto the table, and covered her eyes with her hat. “You don’t run this town.”

Shaw sat in front of the fire he had built for the night, chewing on a piece of dried meat. He seemed the picture of relaxation to anyone who couldn’t see the pistol in his boot. As the sound of footfall grew nearer he didn’t flinch, but twisted around to see the newcomer. “I haven’t got anything of value if you’re looking for easy pickings.”
Maria grabbed her gun as it sat in the holster as the man spoke. “I’m not trying to cause any trouble if that’s what you’re thinkin’. Just need some warmth.” Her boots hit the dirt as she got as close as she did.

“I think you’ve got the wrong person, sweetheart.” Maria turned to the women touching her shoulder. “I don’t need to be taken care of I need to take care of someone else.”

Logan leaned against one of the general store’s pillars, eyes following along the people as they walked about. He didn’t visibly acknowledge when someone came up to him, clearly waiting for some attention. “Suggest ya keep on movin’,” he advised.
Hill rolled her eyes when she heard the comment. “Right.” She turned to her left took a couple of steps before she went a petted her horse that stood in from of the general store. “I don’t give a damn.”

“Well rumors have a way of getting around these old parts. Don’t want to cause any trouble for ya.” Maria lowered her voice. “If it gets out of hand, just shout.” She leaned back a little and spoke at her regular tone. “Could you fetch me some whiskey?”

“Darlin’, the bartender may be blind but her hearing’s just fine,” she announced, stepping down the line and stopping in front of the raised voice.
“Didn’t mean to offend you, sweetheart.” Maria sat down on the stool and placed her hat on the bar. “That deadbeat over there was blowin’ some words about you.”
