“Well, that’s always a benefit. And there’s always the notion that you don’t have to spend as much money when it comes to buying your friends gifts.” A slight chuckle left his parted lips, though even then he didn’t know that commitment, he had never celebrated anything. “Sure, as long as you don’t mind the death of small animals.”

“Hm. I don’t buy my friends present,” he hummed, but sometimes he did find presents. Those were much more interesting, he thought. Shrugging slightly, Nat just reassured him, “Animals are not humans, but hopefully if you can bring the animal back too.”

He kept his hand upon the shoulder of the other, some part of him having not realized it was still in that position, another part craving the contact of others; Even if it was subtle quirks. “I guess with fewer friends, you can invest more time into them. So it has its advantages, at least.”

“That is true,” he said absently, nodding slightly. “You have less friends, but more time to be with those friends. And you can know them better.” But then again... he didn’t know any of his friends very well. “Your power--” he began randomly. “Can you show me?”

Luckily, with spending so much time with a ghost, he was becoming somewhat used to cold flesh, having been brought up within a cold area also saw that he had no problem with it. He raised a hand to pat it against the shoulder of the doctor, offering a weak smile. “I’ll say that it’s something, at least.”

Scoffing softly, Nat just stared at the hand for a long moment, not bothering to move it off of him--mostly because he actually liked it there. “Yeah. It’s something,” he murmured.

“Interesting why?” she asked, curious. “Finland and Sweden are next to door neighbors, so they are similar.”

“Everything is interesting, but I never meet someone so close to my other home.”

Dorian didn’t exactly mind the touch of the doctor, he trusted him at least, it was just touch in general; It freaked him out, sent goosebumps riding over his flesh. It was a side-effect of being withdrawn from human contact for hundreds of years; He could touch, but being touched was a different story. “Emilio’s too friendly to class as anything until you can confidently say he didn’t just mindlessly claim you, you’ve got to have more friends than that.”

Nat himself didn’t mind touch. He was apathetic enough to detach himself from his skin; and besides, the person who touched him would get more of a shock than he would, surprised by how ice cold his skin was. Perks of being cold blooded. Nat shrugged. “I don’t. I have... you. Merle. That’s it.” Was it so radical that the doctor who holed himself up in his caravan had no other friends?

“Oh, I know Emilio. He’s like a puppy; super friendly, playful. He’s a lot of fun. Finley, though. I don’t think I’ve met him. I’ll have to introduce myself sometime. Eliana…the name sounds familiar but I’ll have to talk to her, too.” Charlie was incredibly enthusiastic when it came to talking to people. Hell, anyone was better than no one. “Man, the Cirque is great. But did you like the 5-Hour Energy shot? Those things…man. I need to get some more.”

“Finley can be very mean sometimes, but I do not think he means it,” he said softly, nodding absently. Charlie was quite the talker. Talking about the energy shot had Nat shivering at the thought again. That was too much energy. “No, no,” he said quickly. “No more for me.”

“Swedish. Interesting. I am from Russia, but my father’s from Finland.”

His eyes wandered down to the hand that touched him, though he chose his better judgement over his impulsive behavior, and shrugged it off. “I’m sure more people consider you their friend, you just don’t see it, or you choose not to see them as friends in return.”

Seeing how Dorian didn’t seem to like Nat’s touching, he kept that as a mental note. This wasn’t like that night where Dorian was high on painkillers and pain, delirious and delusional. Nat couldn’t just do as he pleased. This was the real Dorian, who had boundaries and preferences--and it seemed like he preferred for Nat not to touch him. “Maybe,” he murmured softly. “Definitely Emilio,” he added with a chuckle, thinking about the werewolf who claimed everyone as his friend.

He sucked in his bottom lip and nodded, having decided that was the most he could conjure up as a response towards the subject. “What about you? I’m sure you have a few friends around here, right?” He questioned, directing the attention from himself for a change.

“Ha!” Nat barked a short laugh before shrugging. He tapped Dorian’s arm. “You,” he said. “Merle. That’s it.” It’s not like he got out much to make friends or anything.

It took Dorian a moment to think the question over, having never paid much thought towards the subject. “Sometimes… that’s why I tend to keep a few people as friends rather than targets.”

“Hmm.” Nat couldn’t compare this. He didn’t have a special place reserved for friends. He had friends to keep away the loneliness--and even then, he didn’t exactly go out purposefully trying to make friends; and they never really lasted too long. “At least you have friends.”

“Of course I do, it’s a favorite pastime of mine. There’s only a few who’ve escaped my need to be mean.” His words rang true, once more, he probably had three friends within the entirety of the Cirque.

“I can tell,” he chuckled. “Isn’t it... tired though? Don’t you get tired being mean?” Nat had certainly gotten tired of killing; being a bully would be just as exhausting, right?

“You could call it talking, sure.” A shrugged followed his words as the realization struck that he had never held a proper conversation with the man. Their interactions were almost always based around Dorian insulting him, and Lukas getting frustrated, which of course was understandable. “It was mostly just me being an ass, and him being a submissive bitch, so yeah we’ve talked.”

Nat only chuckled. Submissive bitch. That pretty much summed up the aerialist, though, Nat didn’t consider him an aerialist at all. He was more just a masochist on show. “You like being an ass to everyone, don’t you?”

Taking the bottle back, he threw it back like a shot of alcohol and closed up the bottle before throwing it away in the nearest trashcan. He listened to Nat talk about how long certain people were which really impressed him. “Oh, wow! Really? I hope I get to be here just as long. What is it they do here?”

That couldn’t be healthy. Having such energy packed in a little bottle--no way was that supposed to be healthy. Nat would have to keep an eye on this one. “Emilio is dancer. He is also werewolf. He talks a lot--you will know exactly who it is. Finley is blind and does sound technician. Eliana is costume designer--very pretty.”

Dorian, himself, didn’t feel the need to surround himself with guilt, not for the people he’d abandoned, nor the people whose lives were taken by his hand. His own life was dictated mostly around looking forward, though some parts of the past were still haunting, perhaps too much so. “That may be true, I can’t say I’ve cared enough to divulge in his conversations.”

“You’ve talked to him?” Nat asked. As far as he knew, Lukas was only ever around Stefan, but it seemed like something had happened there. Nat enjoyed gossip--not getting involved in it, but just knowing what was going on and around.

Even parties were unknown to him, the only parties he attended were the recent ones hosted by members of the Cirque, though even then he was always caught in the corner within the shadows as the causal bystander. The only friends he had, he had only just recently started making them, and though the number was few, he treasured the time said friends spent with him, regardless of if he’d admit it or not. “I’ll take your word for it, I’d rather not ask him anything of the like.”

The Cirque had the most amount of friends--but Nat didn’t exactly see them like that. They were patients--people he had to heal and help in order to atone for the many, many lives he’d taken. That was all Nat saw most of them as. Merle was one off the exceptions--a true friend; and now it seemed... Dorian as well could be counted as such. “Don’t,” he warned playfully. “He talks too much.”

Honestly, Dorian never had friends before the Cirque, and even when he joined he was more of a loner than someone who’d join in. Thus, he was oblivious to most things, drugs and alcohol being the main things he was alien to. Only recently had he tried the latter, though even then he felt nervous about the ordeal. “It doesn’t sound too thrilling. Ah well, I’ll just stick to the cigarettes.”

Nat had had a couple friends before the circus, but not any important enough to stick around with. He usually attended parties and the like by himself, and he was sometimes flocked with people wondering who this mysterious person was, but he never really stuck around. He spent his time either studying or by the sea--that was it. “It’s for recreation,” he said. “I think Lukas will tell you different than me.”
