Morning sunlight slowly crept across the old, worn carpet, warm golden beams inching their way toward the two tangled figures beneath the covers before finally landing directly across your face.
You scrunched your nose and immediately sought refuge against the warm chest beside you, burrowing deeper beneath the blankets.
Then you remembered what day it was.
Your eyes widened.
You slowly peeked up at the sleeping figure beside you.
Changbin was completely out, one arm thrown lazily around your waist while the other had somehow ended up beneath your head, serving as an incredibly comfortable pillow.
God bless Seo Changbin and his biceps.
“Binnie.” You shook him gently.
Nothing. Not even a sleepy noise of protest.
You huffed and stared at the ceiling. Fine.
You sat up, though Changbin's lips immediately pulled into a sleepy pout. His arm tightened around your waist on instinct, but not enough to stop you from wriggling free.
You placed both hands against his cheeks. “Hyung, up.”
You squeezed his cheeks.
Changbin groaned.
You whined dramatically, “It’s your birthday. Get uuuuuup!”
“’S’my birthday,” he mumbled, voice rough with sleep. “Let me sleep.”
“C’mooon! I have a birthday surprise for you.”
One eye cracked open. For a moment, Changbin simply stared at you.
Then, without warning, he tugged you straight back against his chest. “I thought my birthday surprise was yesterday.”
His hand gestured vaguely toward the clothes scattered around the room, as though presenting evidence in a court case.
You lightly smacked his chest.
Changbin let out a sleepy yelp. “Leave Jut alone!”
“Can I slap Dae?” You snarked.
He chuckled. “Think you did a number on him yesterday, bun.”
“Ha-ha. Whatever.” You rolled back onto his chest properly, resting your chin against him. “Can you get up now?”
Changbin stared blankly at you.
You sighed. “Changbin. Please get up.”
Same expression. You let your head fall back between Jut and Dae with an exasperated groan.
“Changbin hyung, please, may you get out of bed so we can go on your birthday surprise?”
A smug smile slowly spread across his face. “Why, yes, we can, bunny. Didn’t need to ask so formally.”
“I hate you.”
“I love you too.”
You rolled your eyes. “Come on.”
Eventually, the two of you made your way into his bathroom.
You stood at the sink brushing your teeth, wearing his discarded shirts from the day before, while Changbin watched you through the mirror.
You caught his gaze.
“What are you looking at?” The words came out slightly garbled around your toothbrush.
Changbin only shook his head, a small smile tugging at his lips before he turned back to the sink. “We’re going to be late if I tell you.”
Your eyes widened. “Oh my.”
————————
“So...” Changbin glanced over at you as he drove, amusement evident in his voice. “Did you actually think this through, or do you want me to pretend to still be surprised even though I’m currently driving us to my own birthday surprise—which I definitely don’t know is a hiking trail?”
You pouted defensively. “Can you shut up?”
“Hey, hey, hey. Easy there, bunny. I’m not teasing. I’m questioning your planning.”
“My planning skills are better than yours!”
“Then why am I driving us?”
You threw your hands up in exasperation. “Does no one remember what happened last time I drove?!”
Changbin hummed thoughtfully at the memory.“Yeah. Alright. Fair enough, baby.”
A beat of silence passed.
“Sooo... why a hike?”
You glanced at him.
“You don’t even like getting out of bed to pee.”
You turned toward the window, watching Seoul slowly give way to rolling greenery. The familiar cityscape disappeared behind you, replaced by winding roads, trees, and glimpses of blue sky between the branches.
“Well, it was either this or come to the gym with you.”
Changbin laughed under his breath.
“I’d rather experience a workout-induced death surrounded by nature at my own languid pace than have you screaming that my squats aren’t low enough.”
He snorted. “When have I ever—”
You slowly turned your head and gave him a look. He paused. “...Yeah. Alright. Fair enough.”
“Just drive.”
————————
“Hyung, I changed my mind. I’m going to die.”
You dramatically collapsed onto a large rock, staring up at Changbin as though you had just completed an expedition across the Himalayas.“My legs, Bin. They’re gone.”
Changbin laughed and turned around to face you. “We’ve only been walking for an hour.”
“Yeah! An hour!”
“You’ve danced for longer than that.”
“That’s different. I have adrenaline and shit when I dance.”
You stretched yourself dramatically across the rock. “I’m going to die. Carry me.”
Changbin stared at you. “It’s my birthday. Why am I supposed to carry you?”
“Because if you leave me here, you’ll never get your end of the walk surprise.”
He closed his eyes and looked toward the sky as though asking for patience.
Then he walked over and crouched in front of you. “C’mon, lazybones. Up we go.”
A delighted smile immediately appeared on your face.
You climbed onto his back, wrapping your arms comfortably around his shoulders. “Thank you, birthday boy.”
“Yeah, yeah. Whatever.”
You giggled against his shoulder as he started walking again.
With your somewhat questionable sense of direction, it took longer than expected, but eventually you reached a clearing at the end of a narrow path that seemed to have been almost swallowed by the surrounding trees.
You gave his shoulder a little pat. “Alright. Down, taxi.”
Changbin stopped. “Taxi—?”
“Down!”
“Jesus, okay!”
He carefully lowered you onto the ground and straightened, looking around the small clearing.
His eyebrows lifted. “Is this my surprise?”
“Oh, yeah. Of course. I thought we could just hang around in the dirt for your birthday.”
You paused. “No, you dummy. Here.” You reached for his hand. “Cover your eyes.”
Changbin laughed but obediently held out his hand. “You’re the boss.”
“Exactly.”
You guided him carefully through the clearing.“Okay... you can look.”
Changbin opened his eyes, his expression immediately changed.
A pink plaid blanket had been spread neatly across the grass, surrounded by the soft shade of the trees. A wicker basket sat in the middle, packed with food and drinks, while two questionably wrapped presents rested on either side.
Changbin's mouth fell open. “For me?”
You nodded enthusiastically. “Mhm! For you!”
You grabbed his hand and tugged him toward the blanket. “C’mon, c’mon, sit down!”
He laughed at your excitement, allowing himself to be dragged along.
The two of you settled cross-legged on the soft blanket, and you immediately handed him the larger of the two presents.
Changbin inspected the wrapping carefully. You pointed at him threateningly. “Anything about my wrapping job, and I know a type of job you won’t be getting for the foreseeable future.”
His lips twitched. “I retract my previous thought.”
“Yeah. You better, bitch.”
Changbin raised an eyebrow. “What was that?”
You groaned. “I said open your present!”
He laughed and finally tore through the paper.
A large pink bunny plush emerged from beneath the wrapping. Changbin's entire face lit up. “Oh my God. He’s so adorable—”
“They.”
Changbin immediately corrected himself. “Sorry. They’re so adorable! Look at their little bow tie!”
He cradled the enormous plush in his arms, completely enchanted. “Thank you, baby.”
You smiled. “Mhm! They’re the protector of Dwaekki.”
“Oh, yeah? Is that right?”
You nodded seriously. “Yup. Gotta make sure you stay safe. We all know those are just vanity muscles.” You gestured toward his arms. “Had to get you some real protection.”
Changbin's eyes crinkled with happiness, the little scar on his chin becoming more pronounced as his grin widened. “Thank god for you. Otherwise, I’d just be blown away by the wind, wouldn’t I?”
You nodded solemnly. “Exactly.”
He laughed, shifting closer, his hand gently cupped your cheek, his thumb brushing softly across your skin before he leaned closer.
You barely had time to smile before he pressed a warm, lingering kiss to your lips.
It was gentle at first, almost hesitant despite the familiar affection between you. When you leaned into him, Changbin smiled against your lips, his other hand settling securely at your waist.
You could feel him trying not to laugh when you instinctively smiled.
“What?” you murmured when he pulled back just enough to speak.
“Nothing.”
He gave you one last quick kiss before pulling back, his expression impossibly fond.
“You protect me so well, don’t you, bunny?”
“Uh-huh. Best boy.”
You reluctantly pulled away, though neither of you seemed particularly eager to put any distance between you.
“Okay,” you said, reaching for the second present. “Open the other one first. Then more birthday kisses.”
Changbin repeated the words slowly, clearly amused. “Then kisses...”
You nodded firmly. “Then kisses.”
You handed him the second gift. This time, he didn't say a word about the wrapping.
He carefully peeled away the paper, revealing a picture frame decorated with delicate lace crochet.
Inside was a photograph of the two of you.
Changbin went quiet when he saw the photograph. For several seconds, he simply stared down at the frame, his thumb tracing carefully along its edge.
You swallowed nervously. “You...you like it?”
His eyes lifted to yours. “I absolutely love it.”
Expression full of nothing but love and adoration.
“It’s so pretty. You made this?”
You nodded shyly.
Something in his expression melted.
He carefully placed the frame between the stubby legs of the Dwaekki protector before turning back toward you. Without saying anything, he reached for your hands and gently pulled you closer.
You laughed softly as he drew you into his lap. “Bin—”
He cut you off with another kiss.
This one was just as gentle, but filled with the kind of warmth that made your chest ache. His arms wrapped securely around you, holding you close as though he wanted to make sure you understood exactly how much the gift — and you — meant to him.
When you eventually pulled apart for air, neither of you went very far.
Your foreheads rested together, noses brushing as you both smiled.
“Thank you,” he whispered.
You smiled back. “Happy birthday, Changbin.”
His arms tightened around you. “Best birthday ever.”
“Okay, alright, the pastries I made are gonna fuck up.”

His eyes locked onto his prey through the thin glass pane.
He moved slowly through the limited space, careful to keep himself hidden and out of sight. Every step was calculated, every movement deliberate, as his unsuspecting victim remained completely unaware of the ambush waiting on the other side of the door.
The clock struck twelve.
The front door opened.
Jeongin pounced.
You barely had time to register the blur of movement before a pair of strong arms wrapped around you, catching you just as you stumbled backward through the open doorway. “Jesus! Jeongin-ah!”
A low growl rumbled against your neck. His little ears brushed against your jaw as they twitched with what you could only assume was agitation. “That’s hyung to you.”
“Oh-ho-ho.” You couldn't help the laugh that escaped you. “Is my poor boy mad at me? Is he pulling rank on me? Hm?”
One hand came up to scratch behind his ear, earning a tiny flick of his ears beneath your fingers. You tried to wriggle free from his ironclad grip. “Let me shut the door, kit.”
Jeongin stubbornly shook his head.
“No? But what if something comes through the door and grabs us? Then we won’t be able to cuddle in this extremely weird position.”
That seemed to make him reconsider.
After a moment, he reluctantly released you.
You turned around long enough to lock the door, only to face him again and find his arms crossed firmly over his chest. His lips were pulled into an adorably petulant pout.
A fond sigh escaped you as you fought back a laugh. “What’s got you all riled up?”
You made your way toward the kitchen, and, as expected, he followed.
He remained silent.
“I can’t help you if you don’t tell me, bub. We’ve been through this.” You leaned against the marble counter, watching him carefully. “C’mon. Use your words.”
Jeongin glared at you. “Mad.”
You closed your eyes, already slightly exasperated. “Mad because...?”
He surged forward without warning. Before you could react, he easily lifted you onto the counter and stepped between your legs, immediately burying his face against the side of your neck.
“You smell like...” He paused, seemingly offended by the very thought. “Like the outside.” You felt his nose brush against your skin. “You're supposed to smell like me.” His arms tightened around your waist. “Mine.”
Despite yourself, you melted into his warm embrace. “I was only gone for three hours.”
Jeongin made a dissatisfied noise against your neck, apparently finding that explanation entirely inadequate.
He nuzzled against every piece of exposed skin he could reach, his hair tickling your cheek as he tried to cover your scent with his own. When his lips found the sensitive skin over your pulse point, his teeth caught it in a gentle nip.
You tugged lightly on his hair in reprimand. “Gentle.”
“Gentle...” he echoed, the word sounding almost begrudging as he loosened his hold.
A few more minutes passed before he finally pulled back. He was still sulking. “Mine again.”
You giggled, cupping his face between your hands. “Always all yours, silly. Now, let’s go to bed, yeah? You’re probably exhausted from being such a clingy, jealous mess while I was gone.”
Jeongin scoffed as he helped you down from the counter. “Not clingy or jealous.”
You hummed innocently as you headed toward the stairs, Jeongin trailing after you. “Alright, then. Go sleep in your bed tonight.”
“Nuh-uh.”
You glanced over your shoulder.
“Have to be with you.”
You pushed open your bedroom door. “Yeah? Why’s that?”
Jeongin climbed straight beneath the covers without answering, immediately rearranging your pillows and plushies into a little half nest around himself.
Of course, every single one of them smelled faintly like him by now.
“Have to protect you from this and that,” he finally mumbled.
You smiled to yourself and quickly changed into something comfortable before joining him beneath the sheets. “Oh, yeah. Of course.”
You settled into your side of the bed. “But if you’re not clingy, you can sleep over there.”
You pointed toward the opposite side. “I can have my space.”
Jeongin hesitated, his ears twitched. “Mhm. I can do that.”
“Alright, then.” You reached for one of the plushies that had escaped his carefully constructed nest.
Jeongin's head snapped toward you. “Woah, hey, hey—wait. What are you doing?”
“I need something to cuddle.” You hugged the plush to your chest. “And he’s so squishy and soft and warm.”
You bit back a smile as you reached over to switch off the bedside lamp.
The room fell into darkness.
For a moment, everything was quiet.
Then you turned back around.
Your plushie was gone.
You had absolutely no idea where it had disappeared to, instead, a very smug looking kitty-cat had taken its place.
Before you could say anything, Jeongin pulled you straight against his chest, wrapping himself around you as though you'd never suggested sleeping separately in the first place.
A laugh bubbled out of you.
His arms curled securely around your middle, his body pressed warmly against your back as his large, fluffy tail wrapped around your waist.
It was a warm, fuzzy weight you had long since grown accustomed to.
“Definitely not clingy or jealous, huh?” you mumbled into his sleep shirt.
Jeongin made a low, disgruntled noise that might have sounded aggressive to anyone else. “Shut up.”
You let out a small, amused huff. “Goodnight, kit.”
His arms tightened around you. For a moment, there was only the quiet sound of his breathing.
Then, barely above a whisper. “...Goodnight, I love you.”
