My Arrival into New Zealand
Hey all!
Just wanted to check-in and talk about my trip so far.
Firstly, I was not aware that there were pets in the airport for the purpose of de-stressing passengers! The picture above is of a long haired Dalmatian from P.U.P. (Pets Unstressing Passengers).
I took two flights, from LAX to Auckland and then one from Auckland to Christchurch. Apparently I look like someone in charge because I was asked on multiple occasions by other people in the airport if they had missed their connecting flights because they were unsure about the time change!
My flight wasn't too bad, but it was the bumpiest I've ever been in compared to the past four times I've flown between California and New Zealand. After hours of non-stop turbulence, it finally stopped and the air hostess told the aircraft that the pilot informed the staff that they had been following a jet stream.
Eventually when I landed in Auckland it was a cloudy day, but I beat the rain! Flying into Christchurch was absolutely gorgeous. The sun was bright and there were barely any clouds in the sky (which has remained until today as well).
The picture above is of the very top tip of the south island of New Zealand. Thankfully there was no turbulence so I was able to catch up on some sleep before landing. The last two times I landed were cloudy days so this was a nice welcome back!
As expected it was pretty cold the first two days, but it’s definitely getting colder each day. Luckily the flat I’m staying in now faces the sun so its not too bad. I've just been running errands the last few days and settling in. I wasn't sure how I would deal with this trip after living here for nine months and coming back, but it just feels like returning to an old routine. I even started driving around town again without it feeling weird. (Left side versus right side) (Well I did drive in New Zealand longer than I had driven in America so that probably factors in to that haha).
I can’t post an update without a weird picture of me....
This is of this morning when it was about -3 degrees Celsius. It’s definitely time to get indoor drying racks when your cold laundry is steaming while you try to hang it out on the line!
(P.S. don’t freak out Momma. Yes, I brought enough jackets, layers, socks, etc. And yes I have an electric blanket...) :)
That’s about it for now. I haven’t taken many pictures, my bad! I have been running around for the last couple of days, but I will try to take more as the days go on. I thought I’d add a picture of my lunch today since it’s not one that you would find very common in California. It’s a Bacon and Egg store bought pie with sweet chili sauce. Nothing too fancy, but something out of the ordinary from home but very common here! Noms, I missed you New Zealand pies!
I’ll be starting orientation in a few days so I’ll update when I can!
