Drink to me only with thine eyes, And I will pledge with mine; Or leave a kiss within the cup, And I'll not ask for wine. The thirst that from the soul doth rise Doth ask a drink divine; But might I of Jove's nectar sup, I would not change for thine. I sent thee late a rosy wreath, Not so much honoring thee As giving it a hope, that there It could not withered be. But thou thereon didst only breathe, And sent'st it back to me; Since when it grows, and smells, I swear, Not of itself, but thee.
Ben Jonson, To Celia, published in 1616.
Wow, look at you, all grown up.
From 4.10 "If a Tree Falls in the Forest..."
I'm in this annoying vacuum after the season finale, where I don't really want to leave Fromville (unlike its residents), but I've run out of new episodes to wait for. Seems the only reasonable solution is to go back and watch the series from the beginning.
I've chosen this book as my next read. I bought it on Vinted (a very dangerous place for me!), and I really look forward to it. I used to love nature writing, but then I felt every book I picked up was desperately boring, so it's been awhile since my last deep dive into this type of book. And I can safely say, I've never deep dived with eels before!
Just finished reading How Proust Can Change Your Life by Alain de Botton. It certainly had its moments but probably not a book I'll read cover to cover again. I'll flip through it when in need of some funny Proustian tidbits. So, this book hardly changed my life but it (thankfully) did break this weird reading dry spell that I've been in these last few months. Plenty of interesting books to read, and yet I've done everything to avoid the act of actually reading at all. I even made this blog on a whim, which is a completely new way for me to procrastinate! But now that the blog exists, I may as well try to make use of it. I expect it to be mostly a bookish type of blog. Nothing serious! I can't do serious. But I hope posting here will keep me reading books again – otherwise this blog will be rather short-lived!
