basically i hc that statehumans/that species(?) sort of just appear around whoever their parent is supposed to be, and the parent sort of like... idk feels like a pulling or sometbing

usually the person in question is about a toddler, but can be younger or older.

this is post-revolution btw

in hill's case, ham didnt know WHAT the fuck they were feeling that pull for. they actually ran out in a winter storm bc the feeling was so strong.

so ham runs out into the winter storm and runs after the feeling and finds a small girl.

and when she looks up, they see the seal of hillsborough county. they see her eyes, matching theirs.

they know exactly who, what, she is. for a second, theyre completely frozen. theyre not ready for this. they werent even sure if they ever wanted this.

but then the little girl begins crying, and their heart shatters. they take their heavy coat off and wrap her in it, gently telling her shhh its gonna be okay... theyre here now, okay?

hill calms down as ham carries her back, completely ignoring the bitter cold and making sure the jacket stays on this poor girl. they sit in front of the fire with her when they get back, and just stared into space because they had no time at all to prepare for this, could they even raise a child? were they even qualified?

but ham looks at her and decides theyre going to try their fucking hardest.
