Anyway
i hate those posts that are like "what if your mother aborted you?" because it's LIKE. i value my mother as having her own agency above my existence simply because she came first. if she aborted me, id be fine with it because in the fucking hypothetical of un-existence & knowing, id rather her have access to safe abortion than having to carry & birth when she didn't want to like wtf kind of egotistical question is that. do u not value yr mother in the least. whatever joys you've gotten out of life aren't greater than yr mother's choice
The dismantling of Roe v Wade will go down in history as one of the most damning indictments of american politics and a public health decision, no matter how short or long lived, that will shape the pain and suffering of generations to come.
There’s a problem with the abortion narrative. The argument needs to start and end with bodily autonomy.
It should not take a sob story for you to agree that abortion is a human right. If it requires that, you’re not fighting for the right reasons.
One problematic trend I see in a lot of media is a woman will have an unplanned pregnancy they do not want (for dramatic purposes) and the option of abortion is not seriously considered. It's either completely erased, as if abortion does not exist in the universe of the story or it is dismissed out of hand quickly, often without the word even being said
This trend reinforces the idea that abortion is not a reasonable option, that it is something unspeakable. That the life altering nature of a lifetime of unwanted motherhood is something that you simply must inure yourself to, regardless of your own wellbeing. In the media, women (even teen girls!) are venerated as martyrs for enduring an unwanted pregnancy. There's a subtle undercurrent of incredibly conservative messaging here. Women who have abortions are unspeakable. Women who undergo unwanted pregnancies are noble.
