A fresh good morning
What an inspiring day today at UNISG.. in the morning laurea honoris causa at one of the most influencial chefs of all times Michel Bras.. Then Minister of Culture Franceschini with a fresh speach looking towards the future potential of our country.. and to conclude a talk by Don Luigi Ciotti on his experience batling against illegality followed by the projection by Cinemadivino of the movie 'La Mafia uccide solo d'estate'
Last night at Cinema Fratelli Marx in Torino - biodinamic farmer Stefano Bellotti and film maker Jonathan Nossiter launched the movie Resistenza Naturale. A must see documentary about what is going on in the winemaking world but also in global agriculture.. It really shows how the act of farming is a cultural act, a philosophical statement and a way of life. It is a positive critic to our global food system that wants to show how there are answers to many of the crises we are facing today
Now I understand where I get my passion for travel.. just found my granfather's travel notes.. kilometer counting.. havn't got that far yet..

Good Morning México City - Molletes and Pico de gallo at El Patio 77
Brunch at Upcycle café - Milano
Tom Yum soup Its great to have two great chefs with very different backgrounds as parents.. One night my father makes pasta with pesto to finish up the last basil in the veggie garden, the next day mum makes Tom Yum.. One of the best things about food is how a specific taste can take you back to places and memories. On this rainy autumn day in Trieste, whilst squeezing some lime and tearing some fresh coriander on my smoking bowl of Tom Yum, I dream about a beach in Ko Kradan - Thailand..
The Ballarò market in Palermo must be one of my favourite places on earth. The colours, the produce, the voices of the sellers screaming out to attract customers, the contrasting smells and perfumes and the eclectic ingredients that represent one of the most fascinating cuisines of the mediterranean..

The end of summer just gets so exciting with all its ripe and tasty fruit! Finally its time for black berries.. and time for one of my favourite desserts
Hidden in the port of Santa Croce lies a pearl of the Adriatic sea.. Santa Croce - Trieste, August 2013
Burger and stars..
In Italy the night of the10th of August (San Lorenzo) is associated with shooting stars. It is a period of the year during which earth is passing through the meteor shower of Perseids and therefore we tend to see many more shooting stars than normal.
This year I decided to throw a dinner party.. we made some delicious home made burgers.. Beef from Slovenia, bread made with our mother yeast, home made ketchup, homemade mayo, caramelized onion, beetroot, avocado, local semi hard cow cheese, crunchy bacon and some rucola from the veggie garden! The burgers were gigantic and pretty hard to eat, but balanced and delicious..
After that we all took some old blankets, torches and wine and walked to the olive grove to catch some shooting stars..
Minestra de Bobici
Minestra de bobici is a traditional dish from Trieste and Istra (Croatia). It's the perfect summery soup that you can make when fresh beans and fresh corn start showing up at the market!
Cook up the fresh beans in water with a few leaves of bay leaf. Strain and keep the water. On the side start a soffritto (italian base for sauces and soups) with garlic, onion, carrot and celery and extravirgin olive oil. Once it all starts browning add some white wine, and then the water kept from the beans. If you have some in the fridge you can add a parmiggiano reggiano rind, or some bacon skin. Throw in some potato, then scrape in the fresh corn and at the last moment throw the beans back in. Season with salt and pepper and add fresh parsley and basil.
In summer it is nice served warm or even cold.
