He gave a light laugh, the glass raising to his lips again. Past experience didn’t give him much of a scale to say how much trouble their little detour from assignments would get him into. After all, he wasn’t the one delaying a mission. His work was already finished. The brunette had caught him when the man was planning on leaving behind his latest assignment. And that could be why she was stalling. Someone out there planting evidence against him that had been gathered from the room. A quick sweep of his gaze around the room didn’t find anything that looked out of place to confirm his latest theory.

        ❝ I would say that we place a bet on the one who would get into more trouble, but that might be a bit pointless considering that the reason you’re here is to make sure only one of us leaves this room. For the first time since she had entered her line of work and found herself in this position, there was something in the back of her head telling her not to go through with what she’d been ordered to do. She knew there was a twinge of softness about herself but to actually be contemplating letting someone go was something out of the ordinary. Killing him would have to happen one way or another and not doing so at this moment would eventually backfire, but her acknowledgement of that didn’t bother her as much as it should have and it took no part in the suggestion that spilled out of her lips the moment they opened. 

       ❝ That’s very true ----- but, perhaps we could place a bet and my winning claim could be taken at a later date.❞

I’ll put my number in it so you can decide if I’m text-worthy,” he smiled shyly. “I have class from 3-6pm tomorrow, so I’m free for lunch before or dinner after. Your choice. That is, uh…I mean, if tomorrow works. If not, it’s cool, I know it’s short notice and you’re probably busy getting settled…” he let himself trail off. Great, he’d rambled. Well, it was better she knew now cause it certainly wouldn’t be the last time.

Arching a brow in surprise at the comment, she quickly covered the look up with a scrunch of her nose. “I don’t think so, but thank you! You’re not so bad yourself,” she added daringly --- or, well, daringly for someone like herself to say. Checking her pockets for a moment at his request, she pulled out her phone after a quick search and held it out in his direction. “Do you want me to just text you later or do you want me to give you my number too or something? And if I remember correctly, I think I’m free for dinner if that works for you?”
