“Sure, I suppose you’ve convinced me,” Lizzie said, rolling her eyes as a smile pulled at her lips. She was forever grateful for Faith, and all of her siblings. For a long time it had been just her and Josie, and whilst she adored her twin more than anything in the world, she loved having more siblings to have her back when she needed it. “Oh tell me about it,” she laughed. “I swear she had eyes everywhere.”

“What can I say? If someone’s going to match how stubborn you can be, it’s going to be family.” She teased, scrunching up her nose at the end. After all, no matter how stubborn her siblings could be, she’d make sure to match that if they ever even thought about saying a bad word about themselves. “Wouldn’t surprise me if she did.” She laughed fondly. “Can’t imagine how bad things would have got without her around keeping things semi-in line.”

“Faith, having you was a risk,” she said. “No matter how small a chance was, just trying to get pregnant is a risk. It was a risk that having more kids could effect Lizzie, Josie and Hope. Coming here was a risk. Setting up the school i ran was a risk. A massive one. Becoming the mother of Lizzie and Josie to start with was a risk. Knowing a Mikaelson is a risk. But life isn’t life without risk. ”

Nodding slowly as she listened, she pursed her lips slightly mulling the words over. “How much do you know about fairies?”

“Yes, god, yes. Okay because the things that are worth having, they don’t come without risk. Without giving control up and just hoping that it works out.”

“What if it was one of us when we were younger? Would you have risked something happening to us, even if the chances of it going wrong were slim?”

“The amount of patience I have for people on this island surprises me.” Rebekah threw herself into a chair at a bar, throwing one leg over the other. “Honestly, the slightest tone or hint of disrespect, I’d have them swallowing their teeth. I suppose we should call walking away character development.” It’s been a long day, dealing with petty women who decided to start fights with their doting husbands over literally nothing in her five star restaurant, throwing plates of food as if it was a middle school food fight. “I need a drink, or two. Hell maybe even several.” @eternalstarter​

Looking up from the drawing she was working on, amusement shone on her face as she looked at her aunt. “Should I go warn someone to sleep with their eyes open?” She teased, moving some of her things into a bundle to give the other more room. “How about I buy you a drink? Give you something good today.”

“You can’t be the best version of yourself if you don’t live and you can’t live without a little pain. A bubble doesn’t help,” she promised her. “No, life is never going to not be weird.”

“So you think a little risk can be worth it in the long run? Even if it means giving up a little bit of control?”

Lizzie found herself nodding, sighing in defeat. She knew her sister was right, regardless of the messed up self-image issues she had about herself. She was trying, and that was worth something. She wasn’t the same girl she was in high school. “He would say the same,” she admitted with a nod. There was no doubt in her mind that Romeo loved her entirely, even the bad parts, and he would never say she didn’t deserve to be happy. He was totally the new number one fan of Team Lizzie, and she loved him for it. “Oh, I doubt they’d get very far.”

Smiling softly at her sister, she nodded in satisfaction as Lizzie at least seemed open to accepting that she deserved to be loved as much as anyone else. “Good, that’s what you deserve.” Nobody would think she was the most violent person around, but if someone wasn’t treating one of her siblings well - then she’d have every reason to show that she wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows. “I always used to hate that it seemed to know what we were going to do before we knew. Made getting away with things far too difficult.”

“Because he’s…perfect,” Lizzie said, huffing. “And not like the textbook definition of perfect, because he’s got issues, obviously. But he’s good, and he’s selfless, and despite my issues, he makes me feel perfect, too, when I’m with him,” she sighed. “And I know my past can’t be held against me forever, but I am selfish, and I’ve been known to be a bitch on more than one occasion,” she said. “I just feel like he deserves someone at least moderately sane, who’s as good as he is, and I get that it’s just me hating on myself, again, but that’s how I feel,” she admitted. “However, I am selfish, and so I’d never let him go, even if he did manage to find someone better,” she said. “Definitely, Mom is one woman I don’t want to mess with.”

“So let’s see. You’re good, you’re selfless - I don’t care if you try and argue with me, I always knew you’d be there if I needed someone - and I can’t speak for him, but I’m sure you do everything to make him feel perfect when he’s with you too.” She rebutted, glad at that point Carrie could sleep through anything so she didn’t need to speak quietly. “And there’s sadly no magic spell that will change those feelings, but you deserve to be happy. And I’m sure he’d say the same, if he wouldn’t, then he wouldn’t deserve you.” After all, the person you loved was supposed to make you know that you were special to them. That’s how it went. “I honestly pity the poor person who tries to mess with her.”

Lizzie let out a long sigh, and she suddenly felt exhausted by the weight of all she was dealing with. “I suppose talking about it helps,” she said. “But what do I say? My fiance went to rehab because of something I feel like is my fault? That I don’t even think I deserve him here in the first place?” she said, looking down. “Oh, she’d probably ground me, regardless of whether or not she can actually do that.”

“I’ve always stood by talking about it helps.” At least when it came to others. She might never want to burden others with how she felt, but she was the biggest advocate of others sharing how they felt. “Why do you think you don’t deserve him?” Which seemed a better place to start than listing the reasons she did deserve to be happy. “I’m sure she’d find a way - she’s always been hard to argue with.”

“when did people become so judgemental?” the brunette salvatore pouted as she sat at a spare table inside the purple mermaid. she had decided to take a break from her office due to a particular staff member to begun complaining and spreading rumours about her pregnancy and engagement behind bayley’s back. all bayley had been craving was some anchovies with vanilla ice cream and all she wanted to do was enjoy it in peace. proving her point, she took a bite of her anchovy ice cream with a hum, “it honestly doesn’t get better than this,”

“You get used it.” She laughed, looking down at the other’s concoction. It didn’t take a genius to figure out what could have prompted that combination. “How long has that been on your mind?”

“Faith,” she said softly. “You aren’t 18 anymore. You are not a child that has to do one or the other. You know how to be balanced, and you need to do is let yourself.” Caroline smiled weakly. “Sometimes you can’t protect someone from their own feelings. You just have to let them feel it.”

“It’d still be nice if you could put someone in a little bubble to keep them safe forever.” She spoke lightly. “I understand what you’re saying, I do, it’s just... Been a weird time. But I guess things are never going to not be weird around here.”

“i have my own thoughts about starting my own family,” she wasn’t going to burden her younger half sister with her own insecurities about having a family of her own. “you are so much like caroline; it’s scary sometimes.”

“And do you want to share those thoughts?” Not everyone was as big into sharing as she was, or sharing as much - but it only felt polite to put the offer out there. “There’s worse people to be like.” She laughed softly.  “Though I do like the ‘get out of jail free card’ that comes with being like one of your parents. My go-to whenever I got into trouble was that I got it from one of them.”

“I suppose it is worse, but if someone deserves it…” Lizzie said. “Sorry, look, I know I’m being a downer, I’m just…dealing with a lot,” she sighed. “I love my cat, but seventeen of them is way too many,” she said, cracking a smile. “Well, if it’s the law, I suppose I don’t want to break it,” she said.

“What are family for if not to be there when someone’s growing through a lot? I know the idea of having Carrie got a lot less terrifying when I told mom and dad about it. The month between finding out and telling them... involved a lot of tears.” And she’d rather none of her siblings felt that alone, and simply shared when they weren’t feeling their best. “I’m sure mom would be very upset if you broke the law, even made up ones.”

“There is a difference between stopping and thinking everything through and just not doing anything at all because you are scared,” she told her softly. “No,” she admitted. “Hope was alot of things but she was never alone. She had her uncles, aunts, friends and everyone at the school. She had all of us, but in the end it doesn’t matter how many people are around you telling you that you are worth it when the people you love more than anything, your parents gave up everything for you. That you feel responsible for their suffering.” 

“What can I say? I’ve always either been too much or not enough, a good, healthy balance has never been my thing.” It was one extreme or the other - golden child or teenage rebel, scared of everything or scared of nothing - balance had never been her forte. “I just want her to be the happiest she can be.”

“I’m not saying I don’t deserve to live,” Lizzie countered, considering it. “But maybe I don’t deserve to be happy. Maybe, I deserve to live in one of those tiny apartments with seventeen cats and be alone for the rest of my life,” she said dramatically. Cracking the tiniest of smiles, she glanced back at her niece, watching her sleep. “Well, I suppose I can’t argue with a face as cute as hers,” she said, although it was clear it would still play on her mind, regardless of whether or not she decided to agree with her.

“That’s the thing though, you don’t think a lifetime of misery is a fate worse than death? Nobody deserves to live and be unhappy.” She replied softly, before the ghost of a smile tugged at the corner of her lips. “Seventeen cats doesn’t sound so bad.” The words were quiet, but she felt like she had to say something to make things lighter, hopefully to get a smile out of her if nothing else. “You can’t argue with her, it’s law.”

“I know it’s hard to understand but you aren’t doing her any favors putting your life on hold for her, not going things because you are scared for her,” Caroline said softly. She looked own when Faith asked the question and she sighed and went with the truth. “I think she thought that she was a miserable mistake… and that if it wasn’t for her that her parents would have been alive and happy and she hated herself for it everyday for a very very long time.”

“Guess I over-corrected. Not thinking things through is why Carrie’s here, I figured it’d best after that to stop and think everything through.” The words were meant to be a joke, but she knew the tone fell flat - they were true after all. It wouldn’t just be her life she changed this time if she made the wrong call - and you could never truly know what the right call is. “Do you think it would have changed things if she had people around she could talk to? Give her some advice where other people wouldn’t be able to?”

“i think if anyone is going to have a child next out of the three of us, i am willing to bet my money on lizzie. my romantic aspects are very slim,” the tribrid spoke honestly with a shrug of her shoulder. hope had only started putting herself out there after grayson. “no one is perfect.”

“And is that something you want to change?” Not that she was going to judge no matter what the answer was. Sometimes you had to give yourself time alone, before rushing into something new. “Tween me would have cried if she heard someone say no-one is perfect. That was sort of what I was going for.”

“And you think that will make a difference,” she asked. “That the day Carrie turns 18 you are suddenly going to be less worried about her? That you aren’t going to want to protect her from the world?” Caroline sighed. “I can’t make you let someone into your life, Faith. But i think you are making the wrong choice.”

“No, but it means she’ll be old enough to make informed choices.” Not that it seemed as though she was going to get that long. “Do you think Hope ever felt a little out of place until we came along? Being the only tribrid around?”
