Uni is starting up again tomorrow, so I’m trying to organise what I can tonight so I can get into things a lot easier tomorrow.

Originally I was planning on only doing 1 unit this semester, but a couple of weeks ago I made the decision to add another. I feel like I was able to get some semblance of rest only doing one unit last semester and I’m feeling a lot more level headed now as a result.

This semester I’m going to be completing Thinking Ethically and Writing Crime and Contemporary Romance. Both subjects I’m really looking forward to.

The air is cool by the window

But the rest of the house is still

For the first time in a long time

The toddler is not fighting the sandman’s will

Cars can be heard outside

The warbling of birds too

But the inside is soft and silent

And feeling a little subdued

There are chores that could be done

Laundry that could be put away

A dishwasher that could be unpacked

But she feels like it’s not time for that today

Instead she’ll keep monitoring her child

Sipping tea in the kitchen light

The silence won’t last forever

But it’s welcome as day says goodbye to the night

Written this morning after I’d been awake since 4:30am.

Something that I do for my daughter is put together a snack box for her to eat throughout the day. It’s a way that I can ensure that she can learn how to use her lunchbox for when preschool and school happen but also gives me easy access to food that I don’t have to search for if we have to suddenly leave the house.

I like to follow the always, sometimes, new method to ensure that she always has foods she will eat but is still exposed to foods she’s 50/50 on and new foods as well. I’m also aware that there is a sensory aspect for her as well, which is why I don’t change a lot of her safe foods. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are made separately.

But something new that I’ve start to do is making my own lunchbox at the same time. I’ve found that I leave myself to last when it comes to food during the day and often leave it for too long and end up binge eating. So preparing lunch and a couple of easy snacks allows me to have food on hand that I don’t have to prep before hand. I am just able to grab and eat, just as my daughter can with her snacks. The only difference is that I make my lunch at the same time.

I’ve found that doing this is helping so much with my own relationship with food. I’m also giving myself the same care regarding food as I do my daughter because I deserve to have that same care with my food choices as she does.

Today has been a day of working on my daughters room.

First it was a reorganisation of her toys.

Then is was going through her clothes and removing what she’s grown out of.

Then I discovered she’s been getting some sensory needs fulfilled through being rough on her books… if this continues I’m going to have to move them out of her room.
