It finally sounds like Simons asleep. It took him a long time today, but I can hear his breaths are getting slower and slower, so thatâs usually a good sign. I am so thirsty. I never leave the room at night to hunt, if Simonâs still awake. I know that heâs fully convinced that Iâm a vampire, but giving him more evidence would just be stupid. He already thinks Iâm plotting, I can see it. He gives me these looks all the time, like heâs trying to figure something out about me. I guess I could just choose to not care, but itâs not that easy. I like to have him look at me at all times, even though I know it could never be like that. He has Agatha anyway, and thatâs just how it is. I should have made peace with that, years ago.

He is awake. Baz is currently bathing in moonlight, and I lay still in the dark. My bed is far enough away from his that I lay in complete darkness. I know that he cannot see me, so I take my time staring at him. It was too hot today to wear pyjamas, so he is not wearing any. His blankets are around his waist, and his torso is just there, and Iâm STARING. He is so incredibly beautiful. He looks a bit unsettled, which probably means that he is thirsty. Iâve never seen him go hunting, but maybe itâs because he does it at night. Iâm so hungry. Today has just been one big mess, and I need to talk to him.
Baz
I finally decide to put on my pyjamas. As I grab the door handle, ready to go find some rats to drain, I hear Snow coughing like heâs meaning to start a conversation. Oh no.
Of course he wasnât asleep yet, heâs Simon Snow. He must be hungry, because I did not see him at dinner today.
Simon
âBazâŚ..?â I say, fully knowing he was sure I was asleep. I bet he hunts every night when Iâm asleep. Damn.
âSnowâŚ.?â He says, obviously making fun of me. Jerk.
âAre you going to get food?â
âSomething like that.â
âSomething like that?â
âYes, Iâm getting food Simonâ He says, rolling his eyes. And just like that, he has left our room, not realising he just called me Simon.
Baz
Simon is obviously VERY hungry, why else would he make it sound like he would want to go steal food with me? We are mortal enemies, and Iâve made peace with that. But he had that look. That look like he needed something that wasnât food. But itâs NOT 5th year anymore. I cannot keep going around, making up fantasies about how my enemy falls in love with me, I tell myself for the hundredth time. It almost works, until I see Simon running from our room with a big goofy smile on his face and two bags in his hands, almost like he is trying to ruin everything Iâve ever told myself.
Simon
âSimon?â He calls out. There it is again. Simon. I start to fill up with joy, maybe he does really feel something? Maybe this is all not just up in my head?
âIâm going with you to the kitchen to get food.â I say between breaths, when I finally reach him.
âAnd why exactly are you doing that Snow?â He raises his brow, and smirks.
âBecause Iâm starving.â I simply say.
Baz
Yep. Iâm definitely back at the fantasies now. What is he starving for? Probably the food weâre going to the kitchen to get, I tell myself. Love can make you very stupid and naĂŻve, but I canât help feeling like weâre flirting a bit. A tiny bit. But how would I even know if we were flirting? My only flirting experience ever were Agatha. And I felt nothing there, at all. I couldâve snapped Simons girlfriend right in front of him, if I had just had the attraction. Wouldnât that just had been hilarious? Simon would hate me even more, but at least jealousy wouldnât be a problem for me. How are their relationship even right now? Is Simon still ignoring that she almost cheated on him?
Simon
Iâm walking towards the kitchen with the person Iâm supposed to hate the most, yet I canât. He is the reason I broke up with Agatha today, but not for the reason he may think. Iâm wondering if he even knows or cares that weâre broken up now, or that Iâm single. I hope he does.
Getting into the kitchen was easier than I thought, because apparently Baz has a key. Iâm not even surprised by the fact that he has one, just happy that I can finally eat something.
Baz
Simon doesnât say anything, he just walks directly towards the fridge, and finds everything that he wants. He looks a bit lost for a second, but then he notices the cherry scones in the corner, and he almost drops all the food in his arms on the floor, because of the sudden excitement. How I wish I could just hold him, and laugh with him, without the chances of him looking at me with confusedment and discuss. Another life, I tell myself.
When we get back to our room, Iâm less thirsty than when I left it. Iâm such a sad and tired mess, and I quickly walk over to my bed.
âBazâŚ.?â I hear Simon squeak. He soundsâŚâŚ Nervous? âI thought we were going to share this?â
When I turn around, I see Simon sitting on his bed, holding a split cherry scone. His curls are falling on his face as he holds one of the bits out to me.
âSince when do we share food?â I mean to say it as a mean comment, but it comes out as a quiet whisper.
âSince we decided to steal food together, I think.â He smiles at me.
Simon
I smile at him, and his eyes light up. When he makes his way to my bed, I think that he isâŚ.Nervous? Is that even possible? Baz is the most self assure and confident person I know. If he were to be nervous around me, I would totally loose it.
At first, we eat in silence. He covers his mouth, and he doesnât eat that much. Iâm suddenly reminded that he was probably on his way to hunt (or thatâs what I believe, but Penny would disagree,) and again I feel confused as to why he is sitting here with me. I cannot tell what he is thinking, but I wish I could. The only thing I can concentrate on right now, is how beautiful he is, when he leans in for another bite. Right now, everything is perfect.
Baz
Me and Simon has been roommates for many years now, but this is the first time that Iâm sitting on his bed. I wonder if this is what normal roommates do - steal food and stay up all night together. I may never have sit on Simons bed before, but god knows that Iâve imagined it many, many times.
He tugs his curls behind his ears, and I think about how my hands should replace his.
He says something about how good the food is, and I want to kiss him.
He opens his mouth for another bite, and I want to suck on his lips.
He looks at me, and Iâm starring at him. Now Iâm blushing because he noticed.
He puts down the scone, and looks at me. He is shining.
Simon
âI donât believe that weâre mortal enemies.â I tell Baz, ânot anymore.â
I can tell that this have left him a bit shook, but I need him to know.
âSo what changed your mind?â He asks, âI sure know the Mage didnât.â
âI just donât think that we need to fight each other anymore. We have more power together than apart.â
âBut that could never work, not when we hate each other as much as we do.â
âBut I donât hate you.â
âBut youâre supposed to fight me?â He says with his teeth cleansed, and I can tell that underneath all his confidence and pride, he is furious.
âBut I canât.â
âBut you should!â He suddenly yells. Now weâre standing up, heads inches apart. âCanât you just end me? Canât you just for once do, what everyone is expecting the âchosen oneâ to do?â
âI have feelings!â I yell back, before I can stop myself. âFeelings a âchosen oneâ shouldnât be having for his mortal enemy!â
Everything goes quiet, and he is staring at me.
âWhat did you just say?â He is moving closer towards me now, and he soon has me pressed against the wall.
I want to tell him that it doesnât matter - that I didnât mean what I just said, but I canât. He is so close to me, and I am so close to him.
Baz
I need to know if what I just heard him say is true. He could be making a fool of me, but something tells me that he isnât. Iâve never seen him look so dead serious before.
Before I know what Iâm doing, Iâm moving closer towards him, and asking him what he just said. Weâre sharing the same breath, and everything is too real.
âI broke up with Agatha because of you.â He says. He looks like nothing matters, and like everything matters.
âI donât want her.â
âNeither do Iâ He says, and then he takes me by the neck.
Simon
I think that this is a good kiss. He is cold, and I am so, so warm. He is going to end me if he keeps doing that with his tongue. When we part, our foreheads still touching and our breaths still connected, he presses me down on the bed. His whole body is covering me, and Iâve never felt so safe, and so at home.
âAre you still thirsty?â I ask him, my hands in his hair.
âI was never thirsty. I was hungryâ He says as he kisses my neck.
âHungry?â I whisper.
âStarving actually.â
âFor what?â I ask, even though I now, for the first time in my life, knows the answer.
How to read RUNAWAYS -- and how to keep it running...
A number of readers have told me they plan on diving into comics for the very first time to read the new Runaways series Iâm writing for Marvel.
THIS MAKES ME SO HAPPY. First, because Iâm grateful that people want to read the things I write. And second, because COMICS ARE GREAT, AND I WANT YOU TO HAVE GREAT THINGS.
But Iâm also hearing from a lot of you that you donât know where to startâŚ
âI canât wait to read your new comic book! How does one⌠acquire such a thing?â
THIS IS NOT A STUPID QUESTION. Comics can be really confusing and intimidating. (Even for people who have been reading comics for 30 years and now work in comics.)
The goal of this post is to make it REALLY EASY for you to find and read Runaways. I donât want you to have any Cath-avoiding-the-dining-hall feelings. (And I also donât want the book to get canceled before all the characters get their big-kiss moments.)
Chapter twelve: The Mirror of Erised
She was a very pretty woman. She had dark red hair and her eyes - her eyes are just like mine, Harry thought, edging a little closer to the glass. Bright green - exactly the same shape, but then he noticed that she was crying; smiling, but crying at the same time. The tall, thin, black-haired man standing next to her put his arm around her. He wore glasses, and his hair was very untidy. It stuck up at the back, just like Harryâs did.
Harry was so close to the mirror now that his nose was nearly touching that of his reflection.
âMum?â he whispered. âDad?â
They just looked at him, smiling. And slowly, Harry looked into the faces of the other people in the mirror and saw other pairs of green eyes like his, other noses like his, even a little old man who looked as though he had Harryâs knobbly knees - Harry was looking at his family, for the first time in his life.
The Potters smiled and waved at Harry and he stared hungrily back at them, his hands pressed flat against the glass as though he was hoping to fall right through it and reach them. He had a powerful kind of ache inside him, half joy, half terrible sadness.

may i ask why you're having problems with carry on?
Sure, hon.(Disclaimer: these are my own personal opinions.)-Lucy gets fridged and never really gets closure. Simon doesnât even know she spoke to him! Nobody knows sheâs dead! Itâs narratively and emotionally unsatisfying. -Simon and Baz are really awful to each other for years, and then suddenly theyâre dating. I mean, Baz pushed Simon down the stairs. He tried to steal his voice. Thatâs not cute.-Will anyone ever adress Simonâs PTSD? Will anyone ever adress Bazâs internalized homophobia? Who knows! -Pennyâs homophobia lite. -Miss me with that child neglect -Why did Eb die? Whatâs even the point of that? Agatha would have left anyways. Stop killing off female characters 2k17-I really donât like how you get the feeling that Agathaâs pretty much estranged from her friends at the end of the book.-Penny just casually possesses both a dog and a PERSON and itâs nbd. What? The fuck? Thatâs not okay!-It makes me so sad that Simon never has a parental figure (like the Weasleys for Harry.) The closest he gets is Eb, who died.-Thereâs some tonal dissonance thatâs reallyâŚI mean, the book is dark, and I feel like the lighter bits donât really mesh properly. I canât give you any solid examples, except for the kiss scene. Yeah, everyone loves the forest kiss, but Baz just set a forest on fire which is basically vampire suicide and then Simon kisses him and thatâsâŚoff, to me. -Iâve talked about this a lot with a friend in the fandom and she brought up the nature of Carry On: itâs a Harry Potter send up. Often that clashes with actual plot/character stuff. -In my opinion, RRâs grasp of plot is not as good as her grasp of character. Carry On is very different from the rest of her books in that it actually has a plot, and that and the sheer number of POVs means that the story is not as cohesive as it could be, and the emotional character development suffers for that. These are the major points. I donât love Carry On anymore, and I donât know if I ever did - it was so different from my expectations and the little tidbits we got in Fangirl. I was really involved in the Simon Snow fandom, pre-Carry On, back when all we had was bits in Fangirl. Carry On disappointed me, and now its flaws stand out too much for me to enjoy it.
I feel like in "fangirl", Carry on seemed boring and not exciting at all, whereas "Carry on, Simon" where just perfectly made. But that's just my opinion â¨

âYouâre free to go if you want to,â he says.
âWe were here before you arrived,â I protest. âIâm not moving.â

âOkay, so which game should we play?â the pixie asks.
âNever have I ever,â Wellbelove says, nonchalantly, as if sheâs done this sort of thing many times.
