Stasis is Awkward Places

Connor glanced over, taking notice of her nervous behavior. He sighed lightly and stood up, taking the laptop with him. He moved to the bed and sat down, giving her a small and gentle pat before getting back to work. Now that he’s closer, he hoped his immediate company would distract from those pesky creaks in the night. Specifically, those footsteps.
Emily let out a shaky exhale, pulling the covers a little higher up. She began singing to herself, trying to calm down her anxiety; her stress levels were practically bursting through the roof, if she was an android then she would have known this fact; and because of the fact that she’s human, Emily really had no idea that she was stressed out to the extreme.
As Connor continued sorting files, he heard the subtle song, a small smile rising on his lips. He knew she was stressed out, but it really isn’t his place to swoop in and coddle her like a child. Even if his more protective wires are telling him too. …That doesn’t mean he can’t attempt to simply help, however. Distraction, right behind laughter, is often a great emotional vaccine.
“…Can you sleep?” He started off incredibly softly, trying to avoid startling her by the sudden noise.
She stopped singing and shook her head, her heart pounding in her ears. Emily began counting the ridges on her fingertips, jumping at the sound of a knock not too far down the hall.
“C-Connor…?” She began, her voice shaky. “A-Am I going to die…?”
A soft exhale came from the mans mouth, his expression saddening greatly. “N..No.. You’re not going to die.. I’m sorry you feel like you have to ask that.. I’ll keep you safe, okay? Promise. I’ll stay here all night, and wake you up if necessary.” He didn’t know what else to say, honestly. That simple question squeezed his heart. Nobody should have to think that, especially before bed..
Emily rolled over, facing him as she scooted closer. “I... I trust you...” She looked up at him with her big blue eyes, then very quickly looking away and at the other side of the room.
