{ Surprise
minheesong:
She watched the woman out of the corner of her eyes, and looked up from her book through her eyelashes as she sat down in front of her. Great. So, she was here for Minnie for sure. She didn’t have cancer as well – while Minnie thought that idea would be a little too coincidental it would have been better then this. Then her sitting there looking at her expectantly.
The younger woman stared at her book for a moment after Marina spoke, debating on if ignoring her was a thing she could get away with… Pretending she suddenly didn’t speak English? That she wasn’t Minnie but some twin sister?
Unfortunately she was too practical to see any value (or humor) in these options so she didn’t try.
Instead Minnie closed her book in her lap and looked up at Marina raising her eyebrows, “no, I’m just sitting here getting poison pumped through my body, and wanting to vomit right in your lap. Why would I be avoiding you?” Actually she felt fine at the moment. Good enough. This was only her first go at this Chemo thing, and she’d only been there for a couple hours. The feeling bad thing was something she still had to look forward too. Great.
“What are you doing here?”
The business woman's face curdled at her colourful description. " Well, the poison might save your life, so I'll take my chances. " she commented, setting her handbag off to her side. " I guess I'll just be upfront and honest with you, now-" she added in, sighing before looking Minnie up and down. "Ever since we had our little...meeting, it had been nagging me. " she remarked. " You- pristine, perfect- prodigy- what reason could you have for wanting to do what you do? " she incquired rhetorically, purposefully using vague language for the sake of maintaining appearances. " And while you might not think it's any of my business what your reasoning might be for working with me, or what you get up to in your spare time- it is my business. " She spoke much more quietly, now. " I have to be certain that the people who work for me can be trusted. " " So, I've been doing a little digging. A little snooping if you will- to figure out why you're a prodigy turned protege. " " This is quite the reason. "
