I’d imagine it would be rather slow to get from a to b. Not very practical but it’s pretty steampunk.
Smooth Ride, Bumpy Road. This tricycle with square wheels can ride smoothly due to the particular shape of the surface it is riding on. ⠀ ⠀ The rounded shapes on the surface are known as inverted catenaries, and are not circular, nor parabolic. In fact, the catenary shape is naturally produced when something flexible is suspended at either end, and then bends naturally at the middle - like that of a rope, chain or even telephone wires. This results in the rise and decline of the surface changing at a matching rate to the wheel - meaning that the rider never actually feels the bumps. ⠀ ⠀ Video Via Real Physics Live, from Texas A&M.
