Matthias was very quiet as he watched Jorah move around, bustle, find clothing. All the relaxed, at ease feeling that he had had had evaporated utterly. Keep your nose out the past? Why, what’s there? Who was he, out of all of them? And what did he have to hide? “And w-what if t-that p-past means s-something,” he had quietly. “T-tells us s-something? J-jorah, I’m already in danger. It’s only been a w-week s-since a man w-was s-shot in cold b-blood f-for b-being w-what I am. Now, t-there’s a s-siren out t-there w-who s-seems t-to w-want nothing more t-than humans dead.” His jaw ticked briefly, his eyes averted. “I don’t…I don’t s-see h-how I’ll be s-safer.”
Would Giles ‘keep his nose out of the past?’
Matthias stood at last, sliding on his pants again and carefully changing back into his own clothing, folding Jorah’s shirt and placing it gently back in the trunk. “As f-for not t-trusting you…you’re…important to me,” he said very softly. “P-people w-who are important to me, I t-tend to t-trust. You don’t need to make it s-sound like I’ve committed s-some kind of s-sin, j-just because I f-feel—”
He cut himself off, quieting again.
“It doesn’t matter.”
It did.
Rolling his eyes, the picture of ease outwardly, Jorah turned, waiting until Matthias was dressed and stepping into his space again, long fingers sliding to his hips and pulling the taller man closer, “The past is littered with corpses who knew too much about what they shouldn’t. So I’ve learned, it’s better not to know what you shouldn’t and keep your information to yourself when you know it’s going to hurt people.” He leaned up, slowly pressing a gentle kiss to the corner of Matthias’ mouth. “Especially when it’s people I-- you know.”
He hummed softly, stepping back again to smooth out the blankets on the bed. “You humans and your aversion to sex. Talking about fucking, actually doing it-- you’re all so obsessed with it. Mostly with condemning each other for it. Probably why it’s so easy to lure you into the water and kill you-- because you will remember I wanted everyone dead just a while before I met you too.”
Jorah turned again, tilting his head to the side and sizing Matthias up, the way he stood in his own clothes like they were an armor of sorts, “Or did you forget that about me so easily because you know what it’s like to be intimate with me?”
