I love this short.
The Hamiltunes section of Solo Bolo Trolo’s Olympic Song Challenge, featuring Ben Schwartz rapping “My Shot”, from Comedy Bang! Bang! episode 402, Solo Bolo Trolo.
“Nothing is original. Steal from anywhere that resonates with inspiration or fuels your imagination. Devour old films, new films, music, books, paintings, photographs, poems, dreams, random conversations, architecture, bridges, street signs, trees, clouds, bodies of water, light and shadows. Select only things to steal from that speak directly to your soul. If you do this, your work (and theft) will be authentic.”
Happy birthday, Mr. Jarmusch. Read J. Hoberman’s essay on where it all began: STRANGER THAN PARADISE. Look through polaroids of Tom Waits, John Lurie, and Roberto Benigni while filming DOWN BY LAW. Or watch Jim talk about musicians, filmmaking, Robert Mitchum, and the Sons of Lee Marvin.
ok. I made a long-form version of Jean Ralphio’s amazing tale of clubs, ladies, dancing, police, and more.

AZIZ ANSARI AND ALAN YANG ANSWERED MY QUESTION!! I’M SO PSYCHED RIGHT NOW. By the way, the question was: "Writing question: When you're rewriting each episode, draft after draft, how do you battle that feeling of just being sick of hearing that episode's story because you've read and worked on it so many times?"
One thing that is just… completely crushing about writing is the idea that what you wrote isn’t good enough, but you also can’t clearly define what “good enough” is. The thought that something is out “there”, wherever that is, or inside you that is “better” than the idea you have… but you have no clue what that “better idea” is, nor do you know what it is about the “better idea” that makes it “better”.
But then again… you know it exists. Because… I mean it has to, right? There’s no way what I have right now is the best this idea could possibly be, right?
So you spend so much time just… being mentally pummeled by this hypothetical and things that may or may not actually exist. And it haunts you, all the time. It sucks.
Sitting in Panera, a little boy walked by and had a big wet stain on the butt area of his pants . I laughed. Man sitting near me didn't see wet spot, only saw me look at little boy's butt and smile. Leaving Panera ASAP.
Before Edgar Wright and Wes Anderson, before Chuck Jones and Jackie Chan, there was Buster Keaton, one of the founding fathers of visual comedy. And nearly 100 years after he first appeared onscreen, we’re still learning from him. Today, I’d like to talk about the artistry (and the thinking) behind his gags.
