Prettier than a Sunrise | Sholton
There were a handful of things that Colt Sutton genuinely looked forward to throughout each of his days. He led a simple life, the kind that left him lying his head down at night feeling satisfied with the man he'd grown up to be. He did what he could to help those who needed it, he kept the town stocked with each and every thing they needed, and he did it all with a charming smile.
But there was one thing, above everything else that happened throughout his day, that Colton loved the most. And that was the moment she entered the store, like clockwork each day, with the sun shining off the cream color of her hair and the slightest of smiles tugging her petal pink lips.
Most days, she came for something simple, like a spool of thread for a shirt she was fixing or more flour so she could bake the delicious bread he found himself craving most afternoons despite having only tasted it once. What she bought didn't matter, though. In fact, the proprietor was sure he would hardly notice if she simply forgot to pay. It wasn't her business that made his heart race inside his chest, it was her company. It was having just a few short minutes each day where he could catch whiffs of her vanilla scent in the air as he debated clever things to say and listened to her tinkling laugh as his words came out much more awkward than they were intended to.
His green eyes immediately darted towards the door as the bell overhead chimed, indicated someone's arrival. A slow grin stretched across his face at the sight of her, her skirts bustling against the floor as she made her way into the shop. "Miss Holmes, lovely to see ya this mornin'. Anythin' I can help ya with?"
