Loggerhead sea turtle (Caretta caretta)
The loggerhead sea turtle is a species of oceanic turtle distributed throughout the world. It is a marine reptile, belonging to the family Cheloniidae. The average loggerhead measures around 90 cm in carapace length when fully grown.  The adult loggerhead sea turtle weighs approximately 135 kg, with the largest specimens weighing in at more than 450 kg. The skin ranges from yellow to brown in color, and the shell is typically reddish brown. The loggerhead sea turtle is found in the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans, as well as the Mediterranean Sea. It spends most of its life in saltwater and estuarine habitats, with females briefly coming ashore to lay eggs. The loggerhead sea turtle is omnivorous, feeding mainly on bottom-dwelling invertebrates. Its large and powerful jaws serve as an effective tool for dismantling its prey. Young loggerheads are exploited by numerous predators; the eggs are especially vulnerable to terrestrial organisms. Once the turtles reach adulthood, their formidable size limits predation to large marine animals, such as sharks. The loggerhead sea turtle is considered a vulnerable species by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature. In total, 9 distinct population segments are under the protection of the Endangered Species Act of 1973, with 4 population segments classified as âthreatenedâ and 5 classified as âendangeredâ.

a lifetime ago (Merric x anja)
England, 1802
Anja rolled her eyes as she sat in the meeting of the professors all arguing about who would go on the latest expedition, she hated to tell them it was a waste of time as well. The marine biologists had been hearing rumors of a type of serpent off the coast which was actually her (woops) and she didnât want them to catch on however the area that they were planning to visit she also knew she had theorized to have something to do with a new species of fish that had been appearing in the docks and she knew it had to have something to do with the ocean currents.Â
Of course they were all fighting so much it would be a miracle if she could even pitch her works at all, let alone get on the boat to begin with. These men were all far to stubborn and pigheaded to listen to anything the young adventurer wished to offer them as far as information, it was a miracle she was allowed in the room at all with the way Darwin protested and the more she tried to interject the harder it became so she made herself useful in another way, when theories and arguments were shouted out that she could hear she wrote them down on a pad of paper that she had brought with her, taking note of the good ideas and disregarding the bad ones. the ones that were important or made sense to the mission she circled on the pad of paper and when she got a moment she tried once more to interject only to be shut out again. Honestly sheâd never met a more obnoxious group of virgins in her entire life.
The Belmont glared at himÂ
âAfraid not if youâre looking for the creature, sheâs already gone.â He drew a silver pistol and aimed at Merric âSheâll join you after Darwin is done with her. his discovery of dragons will far surpass hers of a single fish.â
Merric glared at him before Emily smashed the bottle over the manâs head.
âI rather think not.â Emily told him, âgo get her.â She told Merric.
Merric kissed her forehead. âEmily you are a Godsend.â He hurried after finding Darwin and Anja. The sight sickened him. âGet away from her Darwin. Dragons are not to be meddled with, for you are crunchy and good with a fine wine.â
Darwin had anja at a half transformation it was painful trying to resist the transformation as he held her arms behind her, her fingers more like claws and her scalescovered one of her arms and half of her face, her eyes were bright blue and looking more reptillian by the moment
âDarwin let go of her or I swear I will not be held accountable for my actions.â Merric glared at him his hands moving into a defensive measure.
Darwin had a silver dagger and held it close to Anja glaring
ânot a step closer or Iâll dissect her right here. There is enough on her to prove that she is a monster to be studied as well, I had planned on giving you the potion but in afraid you took the wrong glassâ Darwin threatened as he struggled to keep his hold on her as a monsterous growl came from her as she struggled to fight the effects
âA monster? Please youâre the monster, you dissect living thinking people and call them monsters oh Darwin you are quite wrong about that.â Merric watched the man and felt his stomach turn. âAnja look at me focus on me you are stronger than anything this mortal could ever drug you with.â
âitâs an elixcer the Belmonts gave me to reveal creatures like youâ darwin scoffed at them it was then he felt a gun pressed to the back of his head
âIâll take that as a confession to disrupting the magical orderâ the gentleman behind him said before he glanced over at merric
âget your dragon, the van Hellsings will handle this get her somewhere safeâ
Darwin had no choice but to release Anja and drop his own dagger as Anja vent over in pain from trying to resist her transformation
âmerricâ she gasped
Merric hurried to her and helped her up, âthis way,â do you think you can control it enough to become your smaller self?â He asked her as he lead her to a place where no one would see them. âHow do I help you?â There was concern and he spoke weirdly calm if only to keep her so.
âI think I can tryâ Anja said to him she felt another jolt of pain and held onto him she took a few deep breaths and forced herself into her snake form once they were out if sight and she was curled up tight in her coils and whimpered it was better but it still felt like horrible pain going through her
âsssneaky basstardâ she hissed in a small voice
âHe had help, the Belmontâs.â He concealed her across his shoulders to shield her and keep her warm. âHe will pay for it dearly the VanHelsings donât suffer fools.â
Anja snuggled close to him
âI donât like that, we were far to clossee to being caughtâ she said if snakes could cry she would be as she snuggled closer to him glad for his comfort
âWhy donât you stay at my place I know it isnât proper but it is safer than where you live Emily will be fine.â
Anja nodded sadly who knew how long it would take her to turn human again with whatever darwin gave her but no matter what Anja wasnât sure she felt safe anywhere really. Far to many knew she was a dragon now and if it werenât for merric sheâd be packing up everything and running far far away
âYou know,â Merric said. âWe could move to somewhere no one really has been to study the marine life there, America. I have never been nor have you I think. But Darwin wonât be able to touch us there, nor will the Belmontâs. We could study our passions there undisturbed and no one would know you are a dragon there. We could take Emily with us if we want.â
Anja hesitated for a moment
âyour pack isss hereâ she told him she couldnât ask him to leave his entire family behind. If hers was still here she wouldnât leave them either.
âI wouldnât asssk you to run away with me and leave them behindâ
âDear my pack lives on that ship, where I go they go.â Merric smiled. âBesides where is your sense of adventure?â
âyou should assk them before you make ssuch promissses to me. Perhapsss they want to ssstayâ Anja told him she wanted the idea of the adventure but how could she when it wasnât just her life being thrown away
âbessides what if your life here?â
Merric went silent for a moment, âI donât really have one, didnât, you see you are my life here. Before you it was just a port for us to stay and I got carried away in hearing they there was this creature that Darwin wanted to find. I work with the VanHelsingâs occasionally especially against the Belmontâs. So I started attending where I met this incredible woman who is an absolute ray of sunshine. She makes the day begin and is intelligent, gracious, and an absolute angel. She cares so much about those around her and has such a deep passion for her studies. Did I mention she can hold her own? She saved my life and it was in more ways than one. Even with a pack I have always been a bit more lonely than most. Now I have saved hers because the day she saved me was the day I knew I would spend the rest of my life with her.â
Anjaâs white scales tinged pink, if there had been any doubt that snakes could blush it was put to rest now
She pressed her head up against his cheek and if snakes could smile she was definitely doing so
âjusst being sure Iâm not to fassst for you my dearâ
âYou never,â he gently smiled, âwe are almost there.â A few more houses and there was his a simple Victorian as he entered the steps he saw the familiar face of the VanHelsings. âYou know you really are a Godsend. Thank you for saving us.â
Anja shrank back into his coat a bit, still uncertain if them and their intentions
âdarwin will pay for his crimes and we have apprehended the Belmont who attacked you as well. You and your lady will be safeâ one of the gentlemen told him before glancing at where Anja peeked from his coat
âdidnât know dragons became snakesâ
âthen you still have much to learnâ one if the elder ones said with a smile before he looked at merric
âotherwise is everything alright? Anything you need?â
âBoth of those things are a relief to hear, as for anything else, I wouldnât mind one of you sticking around while we figure out how to get Anja to a non reptilian form. The potion they gave her was a nasty trick. He gently smoothed the scales on her head.
The elder nodded a bit
âwithout knowing what it was we will have to wait for the effects to wear off. There isnât a permanent spell to make her stay transformed she just wonât be able to shift for a while. Longest I know of is twenty four hoursâ the elder said
Anja rubbed her head against merricâs hand happily
âthank you,â she hissed softly to them the younger jumped a bit surprised and Anja snickered
Merric chuckled and smiled, âIâm just glad we saved you Dragons are so rare, I doubt we will see more than a few others they have to be protected, especially now that there are those who know they exist. While the majority of humans donât the few have to be kept in check.
Anja nodded a bit agreeing what little was left of her kind had to be protected at all costs. With that she cuddled merric again affectionately and the elder van Hellsing smiled
âwe should be on our way then. Much to do now and I suspect a report to be madeâ with that he took his family and left
âOf course, tell Abe I say Hi.â Merric waved. Abraham was the founder and had been helping to keep things afloat for the VanHelsings a younger man than most realized at this moment in time. âThey are good people the VanHelsings. They work to keep the supernatural safe from the humans and the humans safe from the Supernatural.â
Anja nodded a bit she had heard if them in recent years but hadnât had the curtesy to meet then until now
âbooks and cuddles?â Anja suggested for what to do next it had been a long day and it seemed just like both if them needed for an evening in land
âYes my dear, books and cuddles,â Merric went to his room, âmind giving me a little privacy while I change into something comfortable?â He held up his hand for her to slither on to so he could set her down where she would be warm and comfortable.
Anja pouted a little and slithered down his arm and his under his bed to give him his privacy as she curled up in her coils and awaited his cue to return
Merric leaned down and peeked at her, âAww, you can come back now,â he held out his hand to her.
Anja smiled and slithered up around his wrist
âwhat shall we read?â Anja asked she wondered what kind of books he has, books were a window to someoneâs soul their favorites always spoke volumes of who they were and what they wanted to be or thought they were it was like music
âI was thinking Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen is always a good choice.â He selected the book many of this authors and selections were books written by women or under a male pseudoname.
Anja slithered up his arm and perched on his shoulder to look over
âread it to me? Sssnakes have bad eye sssightâ Anja did her best to make an adorable pouty face as a snake
âpleasssse?â
âOf course I was already intending too,â he said cuddling her and reading the book aloud it was a most romantic book but it was also quite humorous just what they needed after such a day.
Anja listened to him read and smiled happily to herself as she stayed cuddled close listening until her eyes dropped closed and she dozed to sleep with her little snakey tongue flicking out as she breathed
Setting the book down at some point Merric fell asleep comfortable with her by him. When he awoke she was human and he was the little spoon.
Anja woke to his stirring and was more than happy to realize she was herself again and she smiled hugging him right and burying her face in his shoulder
âI can finally hug you againâ she said giggling
âAnd kiss you,â he added as he kissed her, ânot too fast?â He asked her as he pressed his forehead to hers. âWould you like to wear something more comfortable than the dress? I canât imagine sleeping in a corset is comfortable.â
Anja smiled and pressed a kiss to his nose in response
ânever to fast,â Anja told him when he offered her something else she nodded she hated her corset and couldnât wait for the darn things to go out if fashion though they were lovely
Merric found a set of bed clothes for her to wear that werenât too big, âI think one of the women in our pack left this. It should fit you just nicely.â He turned to give her privacy.
Anja wasnât sure how she felt about that, the pack was his family but she still wasnât sure how much she liked the idea if someone else spending the night here and leaving their pajamas
She hesitated for a moment
âitâs alright if I can get ahold of Emily maybe she can bring me over some of my thingsâ
She felt awkward at the implications and then wearing another womanâs clothes without her permission
Merric looked at her, âthere is no way of cleaning the clothes properly on the ship and many of the crew use the rooms as a way of storing their things. They wonât mind we share and you are a part of the pack even if you arenât one of us.â He insisted. âThey sometimes spend a night here if there is a bad storm rather than going on the ship. Anja I wouldnât offer it if I didnât think they would be ok with it.â
Anja smiled a bit and looked at the nightshirt again
âIâm sorry, I guess I sort of had a bite from a green eyes monster for a momentâ she apologized to him
âjust seemed a little odd and I wasnât sure how to ask in my moment of shock so Iâm sorryâ Anja apologized to him she took the night shirt and looked around
âdo you have a washroom where I can change?â
âI do not have a mate if that is what you are asking, no what I said earlier was true my eyes are only for you.â Merric nodded and lead her to where she could change. âDo you require some assistance in getting out of your dress or corset?â
âIf you could just undo the buttons and the ties u can do the restâ Anja said turning her back to him and moving her hair aside to allow him access to them
Merric was quick and careful he pressed a kiss to the back of her neck where it met her shoulder, âall done my dear, Iâll see you back in my room.â He curled up on the bed ready to cuddle her again.
Anja smiled and shut the door before she changed into the night shirt and folded her things up she went back to his room and left them on his dresser
âare you comfortable staying in the bed with me?â She asked him sitting on the edge of the bed she knew he had worried about being appropriate before and didnât want to push him
âYes.â He patted the bed next to him. âIt is comfortable especially with you as the big spoon.â Merric chuckled.
Anja chuckled a little and climbed fully onto the bed with him putting her arm around him and pressing a kiss to his cheek
"I think it can be arranged" Anja told him snuggling close to him

âI rather think not.â Emily told him, âgo get her.â She told Merric.
"If you could just undo the buttons and the ties u can do the rest" Anja said turning her back to him and moving her hair aside to allow him access to them
a lifetime ago (Merric x anja)

Darwin had a silver dagger and held it close to Anja glaring
ânot a step closer or Iâll dissect her right here. There is enough on her to prove that she is a monster to be studied as well, I had planned on giving you the potion but in afraid you took the wrong glassâ Darwin threatened as he struggled to keep his hold on her as a monsterous growl came from her as she struggled to fight the effects

âthen you still have much to learnâ one if the elder ones said with a smile before he looked at merric
âotherwise is everything alright?
Anja wasn't sure how she felt about that, the pack was his family but she still wasn't sure how much she liked the idea if someone else spending the night here and leaving their pajamas
She hesitated for a moment
"it's alright if I can get ahold of Emily maybe she can bring me over some of my things"
She felt awkward at the implications and then wearing another woman's clothes without her permission
a lifetime ago (Merric x anja)

Anja listened to him read and smiled happily to herself as she stayed cuddled close listening until her eyes dropped closed and she dozed to sleep with her little snakey tongue flicking out as she breathed
a lifetime ago (Merric x anja)
