A Dance of Petals || Prompt
Due to recent incidents, things in the city were feeling rather tense lately, and that kind of atmosphere did nothing to ease Raguna’s state of mind. Even though the city was starting to adapt to the monster situation (setting up protective barriers, routine patrols, and some facilities even offering training in combat and defense), he still didn’t feel any less guilty for having brought them here in the first place. One good thing that came out of that was that his summoning of the monsters gave Raguna a certain connection to them that not many had.Â
The monsters seemed more likely to listen – even befriend – him, for one. And for some reason, he felt like he could communicate with them, almost. As strange as it had been to him, he often used this newly acquired skill to his advantage when it came to making sure that the monsters kept to themselves and their designated areas, instead of venturing out into the main city and relentlessly attacking people. The farmer suspected that if it weren’t for his interference in this regard, there would have been much more civilian casualties than there were.
Not that it made the overall situation any better, but it was a small comfort. In spite of the mistakes he’s made, Raguna has always tried to do what he could for the benefit of the town. Tilling the fields and growing food, tending to nature and keeping the overall rune level in balance… even though he seemed like a simple farmer, his actions – and Earthmate heritage – made him capable of doing these wonderful things.
It kept the city afloat and functioning, and though he and others of his kind (whether it be Earthmate, or simple farmer) never really got much recognition for their deeds, Raguna didn’t mind in the slightest. He was just proud to be helping the people he cared about in some kind of way.
It was also for that very reason he was awake and walking through the city in the dead of night, touching every single tree that he passed. With each tree he touched, some of his own rune power was poured into the trunks, the energy spreading up the trunk and down to the roots, eventually reaching the branches and culminating in limbs, previously deadened from the harsh colds of winter, now blooming bright, vibrant cherry blossoms. And as if it sensed his intentions, a light breeze blew through in that moment, pulling pink petals away from their blooms and carrying them away on the wind.
The farmer smiles contently to himself as he silently continues his task, glancing up through the flurry of blossoms and towards the moon. He hoped that anyone who was still up to see this beautiful scenery would be able to momentarily forget all of the tension and fear, and just let the serenity wash over them, if only for a moment.
