Party Look #7: Grown-up Barbie (with MAC Pink Nouveau lipstick)

For girls who don’t want too serious a look for the holiday season, here’s a quick makeup look using a bright Barbie pink.

The eye look is a slight variation on the Laneige look with red lips done recently, just not as glittery.

A favorite of both Lady Gaga and Nicki Minaj, MAC Pink Nouveau is THE classic medium pastel pink. If you love the look of Saint Germain but have medium to tan skin and find it too chalky and pale, try Pink Nouveau!

[Requested] Dior 809 Petal Shine Eye palette Tutorial (Day to Night!)

Here’s a soft day-to-night look using one of my all time favorite eyeshadow palettes from Dior. The colors are quite soft, so it’s not often used for evening looks, but here’s a way to get the drama without destroying that soft hazy purple luminescence!

First thing to remember is you don’t need to use the same palette! Just look for colors that are similar in palettes like the 88 Shimmer or even the 88 Metal Mania. Just look for something with soft shimmery beiges, a soft pink, and one medium bright purple)

Products used:

Foundation: Make Up For Ever HD Foundation #120

Concealer: Make Up For Ever Lift Concealer #2

Brows: Shu Uemura Hard Formula 9 in Grey + Canmake Brow mascara 01

Powder: Bourjois Poudre de Riz de Java (for a little glow)

Cheeks: Chanel Joues Contraste in 44 Narcisse (MAC Pink Swoon or elf Pink Passion are both quite similar)

Eyeshadows: Dior 5 Couleur in 809 Petal Shine

Eyeliner (day): I used Clinique Quickliner Intense in Intense Aubergine, a plum metallic, to bring out the purple hues in the look. A brown like Lancome’s Hypnose Khol will make the overall look more neutral.

Eyeliner (night): Something very dense and black and creamy like Maybelline Master Drama liner in Midnight Drama will give you intensity while allowing you to smoke it out with shadow.

Mascara: Lancome Hypnose Dolleyes in Black

Lipstick: MAC Creme Cup (if you have medium or tan skin, Maybelline’s Warm Me Up is a more flattering option)

Lipgloss: YSL Gloss Volupte in Rose Orfevre, a soft peachy-nude with gold sparkles

Shu Uemura Spring 2014 Bijoux Collection Overview and Swatches! (Excluding Powder Highlight/Blush)

Pearl, pearl, pearl! That’s the one word that sums up the entire collection.

For the first time, Shu Uemura has come up with a collection that is almost entirely composed of cream products. All of these come in delicious creamy pastel tones that swatch on paler than they look in the pots.

The collection includes:

4 cream shadows

2 cream blushes

2 limited edition premium lashes (only one shown here)

1 blush/highlighter compact (not available for swatching at this time)

While I love all the super smooth textures and colors (these shadows have a suede-like consistency and go on more evenly than the typical MACs, Make Up For Evers and Maybellines, which can be a bit streaky or patchy. I am pretty sure the cream blushes and shadows would be quite popular.

I do want to especially highlight the 2 lipsticks, because it’s easy to pass them over when you see them on the display. These 2 nudes come in a concealer nude tone (Topaz Beige) and a pink nude (Opal Pink), and what’s special about them is they feel like cream lipsticks but go on in a pearl-matte finish, so they subtly highlight the lips and create a natural ombre effect, making your lips poutier looking.

[Requested] MAC Rose Gold pigment tutorial: Smoldering Russet Eye for Fall

This is a very warm eye look that works on pretty much everyone, but can bring out blue, grey and green eyes. If you don’t have blue/grey/green eyes, it’s still a beautiful look for light to dark skin tones. Don’t ever limit yourself too much based on these “color rules” because remember you are more than your eye color!

you can wear 2 ways depending on how dramatic it is and how much lid space you have.

If you don’t have much lid space, you can go ahead and fade the dark brown all the way up to your brows.

If you have a lot of lid space, going all the way up to the brows could look extremely dramatic, so if you want to control the drama, just blend up slightly past the hollow of your socket line.

Base - Maybelline Color Tattoo in Tough as Taupe 

Deep plum-brown shadow: Shu Uemura ME 761 (Alternative: MAC Satin Taupe is a cooler brown, and MAC Antiqued is a more dramatic wine-brown)

Coppery duochrome shadow: MAC Rose Gold pigment

Pale white-gold: (plenty of options!) Coastal Scents Elven Gold hot pot, MAC Vanilla pigment, Urban Decay Vanilla eyeshadow, Shu Uemura IR 811

Black liner: Essence I Heart Rock Gloss Eye Pencil (or any very soft pigmented black liner; Maybelline Master Drama and Lancome Le Stylo Pencil are very good and last better than the Essence one I used)

Metallic Carrot/Orange Lips using Maybelline Color Show Crayon Khôl in Spicy Orange (and VDL Lipshower in 601 Sean)

Say Yes to Carrots! I was playing around with Maybelline’s new Color Show Crayon Khôls (launching in Singapore in January 2014 at S$8.90 each), and one color really leapt out at me.

Meet Spicy Orange, a shade I’d liken more to a metallic carrot than a true orange. Which is a good thing in this case because it has enough of a coppery hue to make it more flattering and wearable. I won’t always advise using lip and eye liners interchangeably but except for some blue and green pigments, most are generally safe for use on the lips. Also, eye products are usually designed to be more gentle so many people feel safe using eye products on the lips, though not necessarily the other way round. 

Tip: This is one of those “ka-pow” lips that just stand out on your face because of both the color and the texture, so you might want to keep the rest of your makeup quite clean. A line of black, blue or brown winged liner along the lash line would look superb.

Products and Tips:

MAC Lip Conditioner SPF 15 - any clear balm you have that isn’t too glossy and gloopy would do. It’s just there to smooth the way for the lip liner. (If you’re not getting much color from your liner, you’ve got too much balm on.)

Maybelline Color Show Crayon Khôl in Spicy Orange - Use a light hand because this is an eye khol so it’s quite soft. Remember not to twist too much product out at the tip or it will break off.

VDL Lipshower in 601 Sean - if you have a shimmery, translucent orange gloss it would work just as well as a sheer glossy lipstick. You just need something with enough gloss to set off the metallic pearl in the orange liner.

Turquoise and Taupe Eye Pictorial: Plus Tarte Lash, Camera, Lashes Lash Extending Fibers tryout!

Turquoise and brown is always a fun combination, because the brown helps to rein the bright color in and make the look more wearable and not so over the top.

A little violet-blue liner just gives some definition since the whole look is so metallic.

This isn’t the easiest thing to use, because it doesn’t come in a liquid formula like typical lash extending fibers. 

You’ll need to:

Apply mascara

Quickly coat lashes from root to tip with fibers using the brush

Coat with one more layer of mascara

The good point is it adds both volume AND length, and you can pump up just about ANY mascara. 

That said, a wet mascara formula works better than something that is already filled with fibers or dries very fast. You could also end up with clumps if you overdo it. A little bit goes a very long way. 

I’d also say this gives volume more than it gives length. Coating fibers on with the little spiky brush tends to coat the shafts of the lashes instead of building up too much length at the tips. 

It’s finicky and not for beginners, but if you’re quite experienced with makeup it’s a nice economical option because unlike lash fiber bases, a pot of nylon fibers has an almost infinite shelf life and doesn’t dry out or need to be thrown out quickly

Soft Grey Bling: Tarte Call of The Wild palette and Collection Glam Crystal glitter liner in 4 Hustle

I was trying out 2 products I bought recently and this was the result!

One is Tarte’s fabulous Call Of The Wild palette, which is super smooth and pigmented (although you need an eye primer for the matte shades or they dust right off, as many mattes do). The other is UK drugstore brand Collection’s famous glitter liner, in a multi-colored silver called Hustle. (I love this thing!)

This is a simple matte “smoked” eye that focuses on a dark socket line, and blinged out liner. The only trickier bit is probably the liner, which is stacked. The trick to not making a mess is always to dab your brush on the back of your hand to remove excess product before you touch it to your lid. This ensures you get the finest and most precise line possible.
