Richard Dawes smirked as the rest of the poker table all let out various exclamations of despair.
His fellow ‘Insurrectionists’ as the fuckin’ UNSC had dubbed them all glared at him, a few completely leaving the table. He watched as Wallace O’Hara walked over to the fridge and grabbed a drink he didn’t bother to examine. A glance to his left and through a doorway let him see Monica O’Hara, Wallace’s sister, sitting on the windowsill with a datapad in-hand and her MA3A assault. Normally she was on watch, but it was some UNSC holiday that he couldn’t be fucked to remember, so she could just relax because no one would dare go after them tonight. All of them could.
He looked over to where his own M90 shotgun rested and smirked. He remembered the bastard he stole it off. The other three who had been at the table all moved over to the couch, apparently intent on watching a movie.
Suddenly the door flew open....
.....then everything turned white.
Sergeant Elliot Reynolds planted his back against the wall, left hand resting on the underbarrel of his MA5B Individual Combat Weapon System and right hand on the grip. Directly in front of him on the same wall was the door leading into the first floor of an Insurrectionist safe house.
Thump, Thump Thump, Thump
The sound of four more backs hitting the wall behind him, and another five marines stacked up on the opposite side of the door.
“Saber 1-1 to Overlord, preparing to breach. Over.” He muttered into his mic.
Elliot then gestured forward with two fingers and the man behind him moved in front of the door as the leader of the marine squad opposite him readied a nine-bang.
“Understood, 1-1. You have your window. Over.”
The marine from his team slammed his boot into the door and it flew open, prompting the other team leader to toss the grenade inside.
Right as it began detonating, Elliot moved quickly inside the door, covering the right corner of the room and spying three stumbling Insurrectionists: One with a spilled drink on the ground, another with a shotgun next to him, and a third with a datapad at her feet sitting on a windowsill. With the sound of his fellow marines behind him, Elliot’s training kicked in.
“Hands! Let me see your fuckin’ hands!” He barked.
The second marine in (the other team leader), shouted from his left. “UN Marines, get the fuck on the ground!”
To engage, you must be engaged.
It was gonna get someone killed.
“Get down or I will put you down!”
One looked towards a gun, but a third Marine stomped on his hand. “Don’t fuckin’ do it!”
Elliot depressed the trigger of his rifle and fired a five-round burst into the head of the Innie who spilled a drink, sending him to the ground in a heap.
“Wallace!” The girl by the window screamed, lifting her rifle.
Elliot heard more rifle fire behind him as more hostile were rendered E-KIA by Marines.
So did two more marines who didn’t have targets.
Monica O’Hara collapsed, her torso shredded by the force of three rifles’ worth of 7.62mm ammunition.
A shotgun went off, and Richard Dawes slumped to the floor lacking a structurally sound ribcage.
“First floor clear!” Someone barked.
“Overlord be advised, all Saber elements taking the second deck. Over.” Elliot spoke into his radio as he moved on the stairs, rifle raised.
“Solid copy, 1-1. ISR doesn’t have eyes on any Insurrectionist reinforcements, it seems you caught a break. Over.”
From upstairs, he heard running, and shouts of various forms of: “They’re here!”
“On me!” Elliot barked, feeling a marine pat his shoulder to tell him he had others behind him. Moving rapidly up the stairs, he quickly examined the hall in front of him. Straight line, roughly twenty to thirty feet in length, two doors on the left, one of the right, one at the very end of the hall. “Taking left!”
Elliot kicked the door open, charging into the room and heading left, trusting the marine following to take the right.
Immediately, Elliot whirled and headed to the door. “Coming out!”
“Contact!” Another marine roared as a trio cleared the room on the other side of the hall, followed by rifle fire, and then: “Clear!”
Elliot entered the hall, two others following as he kicked open the second door on the left, and immediately ducked back as bullets glanced off his shoulder-guard.
A second marine pulled a nine-bang from his belt and tossed it into the room.
Elliot charged into the room, rifle shouldered. One Innie behind a flipped table, another behind a cabinet. Elliot zeroed on the one behind the cabinet and dropped him. The two marines behind him barged in, one zeroing in on the Innie behind the table and shooting her straight through it.
None of us have shotguns..
Elliot whirled as one of the duo that entered the room with him dropped to the floor clutching his chest.
They had missed one in the darkened corner. Him and the remaining Marine dropped the third hostile. “Overlord, 1-1. Saber 2-3 is WIA. Over.”
“Understood, 1-1. CASEVAC on standby. Over.”
“Moving!” Came from the hall. “Coming out!”
“Coming out!” Elliot barked again, moving into the hall.
A marine, specifically Saber 2-1, prepared to kick it down.
Then HMG fire shredded it... and Saber 2-1.
Elliot stumbled back into the door he had just came out of to get away from the killing zone the hall had become, watching two more marines collapse under the hail of heavy machine gun rounds before they could take cover.
From inside came the shout: “How do you like this you UNSC bastards?!”
“Frag out!” Saber 1-4 yelled.
“Go! Go go go!” Elliot roared, quickly breaking cover and surging into the room with 1-2, 2-4, and 1-5 behind him.
The corpse of the Innie who’d been on the HMG, and another two who were still alive. The two were rendered E-KIA in half a second.
“Overlord to all Saber elements, the target building just lit up on FLIR like a Christmas tree. Code Red! Evacuate! Get your team out of there!”
Then from another room: “Shit, he’s rigged!”
And then everything exploded.
And here’s Breach! I’ve been wanting to do one like this for a while, hope you guys like it.
