As the other team was night and day—it didn’t matter if they weren’t in sync, because they bested them in every way, because they won the game before it started. Now it’s just him and Nagi picking the pieces interchangeable on any board, a pawn for a pawn for a pawn between the two of them and the quiet.

The above except is from To the Marrow, To the Bone, my ngis fic set during the Second Selection. After losing Bachira and egos shaken, Isagi and Nagi need a plan. But that might be the last thing Isagi thinks as a ghost from his past makes things worse.
