“ i … no, don’t worry , that sounds great . ” a smile that looks as easy as it feels . he’s being really SWEET – and she knows that she’s probably acting weird , but it isn’t as if this is the sort of situation that she knows particularly well.
“Yeah? -- Yeah, great!” he feels immediately more at EASE and it shows. “Alright, I’ll -- uh, come pick you up around seven? We can keep things simple, maybe just go grab a bite to eat?”

her blush is pervasive , and she has to bite her lower lip. she does her best to push romeo from her mind – it’s not exactly fair to blane for her to be so focused on a guy who hasn’t been in school in MONTHS , not when he just asked her out ( right ?? isn’t that what this is ?? ) .
Her lack of response makes him a LITTLE bit nervous, thinking maybe he’s over-stepped or something. Blane smiles a little anxiously, running a hand through his hair, “-- I mean, if that’s alright with you...I just thought we could have a good time, but there’s no PRESSURE.”

“ i, ah … ” at his joke, a BLUSH is quick to arise, and she raises a hand to cover her awkward smile. the thought of romeo still hovers in her mind, but she can’t exactly sit around and wait for a montague that’d made eyes at her in english class until he disappeared from the face of the earth … right ?? “ sure , yeah. that … sounds nice . ”
He almost wants to try and take it back, to PLAY it all off somehow when Blane’s not entirely sure that she’s interested. Fortunately, his anxiety is quickly put to rest when she replies though, “Yeah?” he’s not sure WHY he feels the need for reassurance and is quickly kicking himself internally. “-- I mean, great! I can pick you up a little later if you want?”

she takes the book, adjusting it as it catches on her bandage. everything’s placed back neatly ( far more neatly than she handles, well, just about anything else , but she doesn’t want an avalanche the next time she opens it ) . she herself takes a pause at his question, staring into the semi-darkness of her locker. her mind flashes to him , the blonde boy that she’d caught feelings for so quickly that soon disappeared from school, leaving her HANGING . but … does that matter right now ?? she doesn’t know if he’s coming back . “ i … no , i’m not . ” a slight smile accompanies her response.
Blane’s stomach turns into slightly nervous KNOTS, the brief pause between question and answer feeling much longer than they no doubt were. His lips pull into a lopsided grin when he hears the response and sees the smile along with it, “-- Would you want to hang out or something? Maybe something that requires less physical labor -- I mean SOME, obviously, just maybe not so much,” he jokes, laughing a little bit.

another laugh bubbles out, her hand moving to cover her mouth. she isn’t sure what it is about stupid jokes that get to her, but here they are. “ come on , here we are. ” she darts to the side of the hallway to her locker, taking a moment facing away from him to compose herself as she put the combination in.
The LAUGH that falls from her lips only widens the smile on Blane’s face -- it’s more than a little endearing and, if anything, he’s glad his stupid sense of humor could illicit a positive response. He stands beside her, holding a book out to her as she finishes the combination, “That wasn’t so bad,” he laughs a little himself, pausing a beat before speaking again, “-- So are you - uh - BUSY after school by any chance?”

she tucks strands of red hair behind her ear, smiling back at him. “ well – we’re close , if that helps. ” she scrunches her nose at him.
There’s a slightly over-dramatic sigh of RELIEF, followed by a soft chuckle, “That’s good to hear -- I’d kind of hate to crumble under all of these and look like an IDIOT in front of you. With us close, I should be able to make it there with my dignity fully intact,” Blane’s teasing (mostly).

a little bit of a flustered laugh. “ if you’re sure – but if it’s a problem … ” she’s more than capable of carrying them, even if it’s AWKWARD looking.
Blane shifts a LITTLE to get the books more balanced in his arms -- it looks a bit ridiculous but he laughs it off. “No problem,” he reassures, offering a kind smile, “-- I should be able to make it,” he adds in a teasing tone.

“Well, obviously YOU do,” she smirks, slipping expensive sunglasses down over her eyes. The self-satisfied expression stays locked in place as she drives off, thankfully leaving that shit-hole of a school behind them. “You know, a thank you wouldn’t KILL you. I had plans, Blane.” She shoots him a sideways glance, sadly unable to fully convey the look of disdain she wanted to achieve. “So – what kept you late, anyway? Tell me it wasn’t that human period stain, Andie Whatever…”
“Thank you,” he parrots with only a LITTLE sarcasm in his tone as he gives her a small (semi-forced) smile before buckling himself in. Blane looks back towards Benny with an annoyed gaze, “You can just call her by her NAME -- it’s Andie. I don’t get why you guys have to be such assholes to her, she’s a nice girl and I like her. Can’t you just give it a break? Or, better yet, if that’s too much trouble, we don’t even HAVE to talk at all.”

“Hey man,” he approaches slowly, an air of compassion to his voice, “Are you doing alright? Those guys can be pretty ROUGH sometimes.”

“ oh – i can – i can take those back , if you want. ” sure, she’d been struggling , but it feels weird to not at least offer to take them back.
“No way!” he chuckles, “I offered to help the lady out and that’s exactly what I’m going to do -- don’t worry about it, I’ve got it ALL under control.”

“Just get in – before I REGRET this,” she says, throwing in a dramatic sigh so he knows just how much of a fucking annoyance this is. Reaching over, she unlocks the passenger door of her BMW. “Seriously, Blane, this is what you get for driving that piece of trash – I KNOW you can afford better… Or is McDonough Electric going through a rough patch?” she adds with a smirk.

He rolls his eyes, getting into the car once it’s unlocked. This was truly a LAST resort -- like he’d ever call Benny as his first choice for a ride. She’s not exactly the most FUN for Blane to be around. “I appreciate your concern, Benny, but everything’s fine,” he sighs, “-- some of us don’t need BMWs, y’know?”

“ i … don’t think so. ” she couldn’t recall seeing him, in any case – although, she is often distracted against her will ( not so much since she’d punched her problem, thankfully enough ) . “ i’m JULIET . ”
There’s an easy smile -- pretty name, “-- Blane,” he introduces himself in return, “I’d offer a hand but they’re a - a little BUSY right now,” he adds with a small chuckle.

a blush is quick to form on pale cheeks. being called pretty wasn’t exactly … COMMON for her, after all, and prompts shy hiding behind red hair ( and more hiding when a thin hand is used to shift said hair ) . “ just … to my locker. ”
Blane SMILES when he notes the blush on her cheeks, finding the reaction endearing -- to say the least. Her more shy demeanor was nice in comparison to most of the girl’s his group’s usually got hanging around. “Locker it is,” he replies with a friendly grin, “-- So, uh...do we have any classes together? I’m not sure if I’ve seen you in any of mine..”

“Yeah, I guess that’s true -- you can get used to ANYTHING after long enough.” There’s a small shrug and a lopsided smile to go with it. When Veronica asks what was wrong, Blane’s not sure how to respond -- not really one to unload any of his fleeting worries on to others. “-- Nothing really, just one of THOSE days, you know?”
People don’t think there’s a process to being happy.
