The stress of war made it hard for him to really relax. There was never any knowing when there was going to be an attack and thus when he was going to have to fight. There was constant patrols of the seas, Hakoda himself occasionally took over so some of the other men could take a break.
He had a duty as the head of the tribe's warriors to defend the entire tribe, but he also had a duty as a father and a husband to protect his family.
Even when he was supposed to be off himself, he still found himself worrying about the possibility of an attack. Ironically, it was while his gaze was fixated away from the house that he was vulnerable from those in the house.
Feeling a hand, he would turn slowly. He didn't want to scare off either of the kids, but he didn't want to give an opening to someone else's child playing a prank.
Seeing that it was his wife, he would quickly relax, a playful smile crossing his face as he teasingly shakes his head. "Is that how you plan on getting my attention now Kya?" He inquires before turning his entire body to face her. His right hand would gently caress his wife's face as he leans in and gives her a tender and loving kiss.
"How has your day been?" He figured that Kya would probably ask that of him first, so he decided to toss the question her way first.
Kya had felt the tension in her husband from across the room. Even here, in their home, he was still bracing for a battle. She smiled when he turned to her with that familiar teasing light in his eyes. βIf it works,β she murmured warmly, stepping closer as his hand came up to her face, βI might make it a habit.β His kiss lingered, tender and unhurried, and she leaned into it. When he pulled back to ask about her day, her fingers slipped into the furs at his shoulders, slowly pushing them down his arms.
βMy day?β she echoed gently, helping him out of the last of his heavy layers. βIt was quieter than yours, I think.β Her hands slid over his chest once the warm air hit his skin. βThe children were restless, having to stay inside andβ¦ I missed you.β She guided him toward the bed without breaking eye contact, easing him down to sit before climbing in close, one leg draped over his thigh, her body fitting to his like it had been carved that way. Her fingers traced slow circles over his chest and shoulders, where she knew he carried his strain.
βYou donβt have to stand guard in here,β she whispered, pressing a soft kiss beneath his jaw, then another at the corner of his mouth. βThe tribe is safe tonight. Your warriors are capable.β Her lips brushed his again, slower and deeper as one of her hands slipped into his hair, nails gently dragging along his scalp, while the other wandered lower over his torso in an absent, affectionate glide.
βLie down,β she murmured softly against his mouth. βLet me hold you.β She eased him back into the furs, settling half atop him, her cheek resting over his heart. Her fingers continued their slow, soothing path over his skin, occasionally dipping to press soft kisses along his collarbone, his shoulder, and the edge of his throat.
