Walter is oblivious to the nearing presence of his friend (or, at least, that's what he can call her with the most certainty). He's too busy lounging in the grass. Like an asshole. And attempting to gather up enough energy to try and think out a plan. Clearly, though, he's not going to have time for that. Because there's somebody suddenly invading his personal space and snapping at him with startling harshness. Instinctively, Walter jerks himself away, prepared to grab that hand in his face and snap the fingers--

Of course that bubbling rage dies when he recognizes whose come to greet him. And then, well, he just looks terrified as he stares at her. Tal has a way of bringing that out of him. 

"I... moved?"

The word sounds peculiar on his lips in his foggy state of mind. But he recognizes a slow moment later that she's referring to the apartment she probably found barren and empty, if not newly occupied by somebody else. Suddenly his guilty maximizes over not calling her.... but, naturally, Walter combats that with an aggravated scowl. He pockets his hands in his dirty jeans and rolls his eyes to the side. A good way to avoid eye contact with her. 

"I didn't... look it's under control, alright? I'm just... reworkin' some things right now. That place wasn't work out for me--"

And by that, of course, he means they kicked his ass out.

"--and I didn't call 'cause I knew you'd wig out and make it a bigger deal than it needs to be. I'm fine, okay? I'm a grown man."

It's been three days since his last dose of Thorazine, spaced out once a day with a tranquilizer in between to stretch the medication. A trick he picked up in Arizona when the cash use to run short (and that was before there was a fucking kid in the picture). Though the soldier can't say how effective it really was in the long run.

It's certainly not going to matter much longer.

Not at the rate he's burning down. 

And one might think that knowledge in itself would only further onset the raving Schizophrenic state Walter knows he's destined to fall into. And it's there, the fear and anxiety, prickling underneath his skin like meal worms determined to gnaw through the bone of his skull and burrow deep into the confides of his brain. Just enough paranoia to keep him fearful. Not enough (yet) to make him think the pigeons are reading his thoughts. 

But Walter doesn't feel as terrible as one might imagine given the circumstance. As the veteran lounges lazily on a patch of grass in Portage Park, Chicago he almost feels at peace. Which perhaps isn't a good sign at all. 

Perhaps that's just the exhaustion.

Evictions are exhausting affairs, after all.

For the first couple of months he'd managed to pay his rent on time, get a bottle of pills, even grab a beer now and then and send Jackie her check. But that only lasted as long as the Soldier was able to keep up with the business. And construction work, fuck, it's just been too long for shit like that. His body isn't built for it. At least not daily. 

And it doesn't take much to lose a job when you need a day off here and there and you've got some greasy illegal willing to work seven days a week to feed his family of eleven. Never mind that Walter, you know, shot nazis for his employer's freedom. 

Walter scoffs at the thought and lights up a cigarette, quietly observing people passing by as they pretend not to see him. He feels fortunate that never bothered him too much. Probably because he's never asked for handouts. 

The worst part about all of this though... he hasn't told anyone yet. Nobody. Three days off the map and he hasn't so much as gotten off his ass and found a telephone. And Wally knows they're worrying about him, probably feverishly so. Even if he doesn't understand why. The kids. The Jews. His brother. 

And he knows the longer he waits the less it becomes an issue of "when", and more of an issue of "if ever." 

Damn that fucking pride of his. It's going to kill him. 

It might say something that he laughs brazenly at the thought of that. Ha ha. Yeah....

He himself is sitting outside a similar establishment loitering and feeding pigeons the crust from his sandwich- 

Mmm… meat packing factory huh? 

-Sounds like a bad porno name. Also, a steamy pile of shit. But it’s been almost a week since his interview with the housing company. And the sanitation department. He shakes his head and tosses another piece of bread-

Fortunately she pipes up before he reacts, and then he’s nothing but smiles- 

Hey it’s easy money! Any yahoo with a clean medical bill and a dick can get twenty bucks in an afternoon. 

-He stands up and hugs her enthusiastically, though not too enthusiastically, there’s residual awkwardness after all-

How you been, girl, what you even doin’ out here? -puts his hands on his hips and gives her a playful sneer- Do you gotta hit on me~?

*She returns the hug with a laugh, and though she feels some of the same lingering discomfort, she’s more content to roll with the course of things maintain her confused fondness.*

-Though small is the last thing Walter would call Chicago. Personally he feels quite intimidated by the largeness, coupled with foreignness, much of it louder and busier than he's accustom too. And it's not like he's in the best condition of his life either, neither physically or mentally.

But none of that really concerns her. So he just smiles and pretends to reach into his own jacket-

-And then he pulls his hand out and gives her the finger before flopping down in the chair, laughing some more and nodding to the one next to him-

But his pride scratches that option off the list. The last thing he wants is to get showed up by familiar faces again. There's gotta be something else. 

He takes the opportunity of Bradley's close proximity to give his shoulder a meager pinch-

Be careful or I'll use my masculine wiles on my mob connections. 

-And then he gives his shoulder a fond squeeze- 

Well you were there 'cause you needed the money for your baby girl, right? You're kind of, um, I think more equipped to live like this. The Mayfield Family Tree

Irene Mayfield (deceased): Married William Taylor Sr. and migrated to South Dakota to live with his family due to her parent's initial disapproval of their union. 

William I. Taylor (59): Oldest of the Mayfield offspring, considered by most as a leader and caretaker of the family. Married to Lucille 

Children: Carol Taylor (28): Lives at home with Will and Lucille since husband Harrison died in Vietnam. Has a 6 year old daughter named Clementine. 

Brian Taylor (25): Lives more in the city of Memphis, working at one of his father's gyms. 

Walter A. Taylor (49): We all know about this asshole.

Children: Michael Mitchell (9): Lives with his mother Jacklyn in Memphis, just beginning to develop a relationship with his father.

Cecelia Mayfield--> West (76): The second oldest of the sisters, had the best relationship with Walter's mother out of all of them. Therefore she regards Will and Walter the most highly. Two of her sons gave a lot of support to Walter when he came back from the military as they also served during WWII (one of which died during service). Married Richard West and had triplets. 

Brandon West (54): A loving, protective father of four. He works at a pawn shop with his brother Tyler in Memphis. They're both junkies for collectible weaponry and WWII memorabilia. They have a frame in their office with their brother Anthony's service picture and his medals for service. 

Children: TBA. 

Tyler West (54): Like Brandon Tyler is a father of five, though a bit less responsible than his brother (and, thus, he works at the front of the store as oppose to the back). He's also more of a momma's boy and visits Cecelia and Richard once a week if not more. Out of the two remaining triplets Walter is closest to him. When Will isn't able to help him out Walter might go to Tyler, and he's always happy to return Tyler a favor if need be. 

Children: TBA.

Anthony West (Deceased): Died at the age of 25 serving the U.S. Military during the second World War. His brothers visit his grave every birthday, though they might visit a couple of times out of the year as well. 

Charlene Mayfield --> Davis (74): Charlene often felt ignored and disadvantaged because she had two older sisters. Coming from a family that couldn't afford much to begin with she got even less, and being a naturally petty individual led her to dislike her sisters a bit. When Irene ran off with her husband William Charlene's feelings intensified, feeling her sister squandered her opportunities even more. As a result Charlene doesn't care much for William, but especially Walter, whom she feels is at least partly responsible for her sister's death. She openly disapproves of Walter's son as well (because she's a big fat racist). 

Katherine Davis-->Binfold (44): Shares her mother's disdain towards Walter, though it's more so because she doesn't know him and she feels he's dangerous. When there's family junctions she doesn't make an effort to talk to him, and keeps her kids away. She's an English teacher in Memphis

Children: TBA

Rose Davis-->Hale (42): An antique store owner who currently lives in New York with her husband, daughter, and younger brother Thomas. She originally moved to New York with her husband because his parents were ill and he wanted to take care of them at their home. When they died they inherited the space, turns out she really liked the new atmosphere. She helped her baby brother move up a little later. She rarely comes to visit Memphis.

Abigail Davis-->Lindsey (40): Development in progress

Thomas Davis (38): Lives in New York with his sister Rose and wife Janette. He's a security guard at a local mall and the father of three young children. Him and his wife struggle financially very often (their third child was an accident they chose to keep, despite being monetarily insecure). He borrows money from his sister often, which irritates her, but she's unlikely to ever deny him (and he takes advantage of that). Like his sister he rarely comes to visit Memphis.
