Body language interpreted as an extension of the Language.
Body rocking- an expression of agreement or disagreement. Sort of like nodding, but instead of just head, or carapace, the whole body rocks on its limbs.
Stomps- used as punctuation marks. Two stomps by the same leg as a question mark. No stomps as a statement. Two stomps by two opposing feet as an exclamation mark. One stomp by three following legs as an ellipsis.
Limb bumping- used with names during introduction or generally when refering to someone, sort of like placing a hand over your heart and being like "I am X of Y..." It's a respect thing like our titles such as Miss, Ma'am, Mr, Mx etc..
Eridian reproductive system
Eridians are genderless co-sex (has both male and female reproductive systems) organisms. They possess the ability both genders would have if they were decided by sexes.
Eridians lay eggs and their reproduction is basically asexual. It can be compared to Earth's snails or fish reproduction.
Each mate lays 5 eggs, what follows is swapping position and coating the Eggs laid by the partner in a thick substance containing their genetic information. Part of this substance penetrates the shell of the egg and merges with the genetic information stored as the nucleus inside the Egg. What remain crystallizes into a hard protective shell that serves as an additional buffer to protect the life inside.
Eridians, as any culture, have their own customs regarding the Eggs. The habit of watching other Eridians remains, as there is a string need to have the Eggs always in their field of 'vision'. To accommodate that, it is universally accepted that the parents each carry 5 of the Eggs mounted on their carapace on a daily basis. Mounting and unmounting Eggs from the carapace is done by the mate and other parent of the Eggs. It is considered a private and very intimate ordeal. The Eggs are swapped daily to make sure the Hatchlings will be bonded with both of their parents equally.
The incubation period is a little less than an Eridian Year. If an Egg doesn't hatch in the timeframe of that Year, that Egg will never hatch and it's considered unviable. It is common for 2-3 Eggs from the 10 to not hatch.
Unhatched Eggs are laid to rest ceremonially in Specific cave systems, that honour both parents heritages. As an example, Rocky is from Vulcan background and Adrian is from the Mountains. Their unhatched Eggs would be laid to rest in a Cave in a Vulcanic Mountain.
When the Egg hatches, the protective crystal shell cracks and breaks down into respective crystals and clusters. These pieces are kept, sort of as the Placental blood in Humans. They're used as a gift when the Hatchling reaches specific milestones, and collectively they make up a large portion of the Celebratory Garments.
A small piece of these crystals gets embedded in two of the parents legs, they're chronologically organized and make up a constellation. This constellation is mirrored from mate to mate.
Unhatched Eggs are depicted as triangles at the end of the constellation. The triangle symbolises the two parents and the hatchling. They're etched out and colored in the contrasting colour of the parents base colour.

An eridian with colorings that look like the earth. Has this been considered yet
How exactly does 'vision' work in Eridians?
Now, I'm not an expert but I know some things about biophysics.
So, how do eridians actually see? The answer is simple, it's not as much as echolocation as ultrasound. Both are mechanical sound waves with certain intensity that bounce of solid things. The higher the frequency, the lower the penetration but higher resolution. Lower frequencies penetrate further but the resolution isn't as great.
Now, ultrasound needs a medium, a liquid to make sure the contact is proper for the waves to travel. Ammonia, which is highly concentrated in the atmosphere of Erid could act as such a medium. But, we know Rocky could "see" even outside Erid and in Grace's biodome. So, my solution is a hybrid between echolocation and ultrasound.
How do Eridians generate the sound waves for their echolocation? That's when the ultrasound probes come in. In sonography, special problems contain piezoelectric crystals, which rapidly switch between generating and receiving the waves. That's the source of the echolocation.
Conclusion? My blabs...
Eridian Regional Groups
There are 5 large Regional groups divided by the place of their origin. They have their own dialects, structure and cultural customs.
Mountain Eridians- silicone/silicate based, they're carapaces are angular, lighter in terms of weight and have more crystallite growth than other Groups. They produce high-frequency, chime-like sounds as a form of their dialect.
I headcanon Adrian to be Mountain Eridian.
Ground Eridians- originate from deep vents and cracks lined with minerals, so their carapaces are mostly sulfide and mineral based. They're dense, dark in colouration and smaller than most Eridian Groups due to limited space in the Cracks. They produce very low resonating pitches.
Coastal Eridians- Found by the coats of Flows (their equivalent of water bodies). They're mostly made of vanadium or phosphate, their carapaces are smooth and worn down into oblique curves. Their dialect is very flowy and wavering in lengths and pitches.
Crystal Eridians- come from Crystal Plains, their carapaces are made up of different types of quartz's, they're geometric in shape, all angular lines and reflective surfaces. The Crystal dialect is very complexly tonal and it has almost musical properties. Closest to actual human songs an Eridian can get.
Vulcanic Eridians- From Vulcanic Plateau, their carapaces are made of dense basaltic rock, the colour varies in shades of brown, though it's usually on the darker end of the spectrum. The surface is rough and 'unremarkable'. Their Language is the golden standard, mid-range and practical, usually broadly spoken, equivalent to human English.
I headcanon Rocky to be Vulcanic Eridian
First up, Erid the planet.
Canon info we know;
- it's dark on the surface
- the atmosphere is made up of amonia
- it's hot in there
- heavy pressure
Xenon can be in solid state
My additions:
The atmosphere isn't see-through, it's hazy with ammonia clouds, yellow and orange in colour. You can't see stars and minimum light reaches the surface.
The land is harsh and jagged, shaped mostly by ammonia rains and winds.
There are "bodies of water" made of liquid ammonia hydroxid, faintly coloured pale blue. They have much higher viscosity than water does.
The fauna and flora are phosphorus based and the main metabolic functions run on chemosynthesis.
The main building materials are xenonite, vanadium and titanium. Most of the settlements are built into already existing natural structures.
Other usable material includes silicone, which becomes interesting in higher temperatures by the increased instability of carbon. It could be used in builds, but I personally think a lot of natural structures are also made up of silicone, especially in mountains.
The main power source is Sulphur, that is until Rocky successfully returns from his mission, after that astrophage starts to dominate the field.
The land is also very rich in crystals, precious stones and gems. They're mostly disregarded as they're not rare. The only valuable stones are the ones with unique acoustic abilities as sound is the most important sense of Eridians. For example diamonds are fairly good at dampening sounds, so they wouldn't be very interesting to Eridians. But quartz crystals? They vibrate very nicely when stressed, meaning good sound properties.
