i do think the fact that zomst is set in a world very similar to our own adds its own darkness to it. like. this is our world. even now, the hopes and dreams of idols are being exploited and bits and pieces of them are chipped away and sold like commodities until there's nothing left. turning the "viewers" into humans makes it all the more frightening
