Installation 

'Broken Imagery' (2013) 

Looped projection, Assembled Mirrors, Studio Space 

Through gathering the ideas I have had so far, I used the short video to project onto the mirrors, which then refracted onto another wall. 

After showing a tutor and group of students within a Critique, they commented on how they perceived my work as one piece and as separate elements. It was interesting how initially many were confused as to where the moving imagery was sourced as the mirrors were so subtly placed. 

Many themes were mentioned, such as:

the work is site specific

be careful about using water

mirrors were dusty and layered & have a lot of potencial

Photography has always allowed me to understand my practice, as I can reflect and draw the similarities that have continued to flow through out the last year or two within my works. Image 1 was taken under a bridge in Redbrook ( a small village in the Forest of Dean). Bridges have always been a strange idea to me in terms of space, you are imbetween places whilst walking above the water. 

Image 2 is an unedited still of a short video I made on my iPhone. Whilst walking home in Bath, I  noticed the reflection of the Bridge in the river water. The reflection rippled the strong structure of the bridge, creating the illusion that the bridge was unsound.

Mirrors in the Studio

I have collected mirrors to use to experiment with projection. I aim to use the mirrors as objects to reflect and distort the projection content into the space (studio for now). The mirrors have attracted many students to look into already, and they are just my 'prop' at the moment. This is giving me the incentive to continue working with mirrors, and I would like to read into psychological reasons why mirrors are so attractive.

'Moving Bridge' (2013) 0.5 min

Next time I film, I will use a tripod however I am going to use this clip as part of a loop in a projection. I have been considering using editing software to exaggerate he light and surface of this video. I am not sure what the themes of future video works will be as of yet, so I am planning to keep making more short clips so I find out the true driving force. Video has already opened up the possibilities within my practice, ranging from; projecting (considering space, light + dark, etc), sound, content, and also there are thousands of images per second that I can select to edit / obscure further. The familiarity of the structural bridge relates to the linear elements of my drawings,  however water is such a common content for Video.
