The ride was short and she was relieved once they were there, back in their own quarters. She felt much better knowing that rest would come now more than it would at sickbay knowing she was finally “home.”

Leonard also felt relieved once they reached their quarters, but for a different reason–the short trip was enough to make him feel worn down.

He lied to himself, telling himself it was just because he was tired from staying up at all hours watching over Alcyone. He knew, deep down, that the exhaustion he was feeling wasn’t the result of lack of sleep, but from his immune system being under attack by the same pathogen that Alcyone was recovering from.

Alcyone stood slowly, and smiled. She was happy that she was finally away from medbay and back in their quarters.

She looked back to Leonard and noticed that look on his face. Her happiness suddenly turned to worry and she approached him.

"Leo?... Leo what's wrong?"

[Text] Leo. I need you. Hurry.

Alcyone had ready stood once Leo returned. Using the bed to keep her balance she slowly sat down in the chair and leaned back ready to go. She slipped her hand over her shoulder, placing it on Leonard’s and smiling to herself.

Leonard smiled, happy to be out of Sickbay with Alcyone, as he pushed the chair out of the room, heading for their quarters as soon as they left Sickbay.

It wasn’t long before they reached their destination.

Alysha heard a grunt of pain and realized that she was injured. And she was being stubborn. Wonderful, this should go well. Sighing she got up and walked over to where she could hear the voice.

“Sit down. We’re not gonna argue with you. I’m pretty sure Captain Kirk would not want you to keel over just to file a report. Dislocated ribs are bigger of a deal than you think.” She said, laying a hand on her shoulder.

She narrowed her gaze and turned to face the nurse, raising an eyebrow at he as if to silently say ‘seriously?’. A comment and bitter remark burned the tip of her tongue, but she swallowed it along with her pride. “Fine” she said and looked off. “What do I need to do?” part-human-part-vulcan

“Keep still, for one thing.” Alysha said in an even tone. If she wanted to be a crabby pants that was fine. She would just have to be prepared to have it dished back. “I’m going to have Dr. McCoy look at you in a minute.”

"O-... Okay" she mumbled and laid back with a set jaw. The pain in her side was intense, no doubt. With the orders she relaxed and waited.

“A wheelchair will be fine” she mumbled quietly. She was unsure which she wanted, but since she was weaker than normal she decided why not?

“I’ll be right back,” Leonard assured her.

He wasn’t gone long, returning with a wheelchair for Alcyone.

“Definitely” she smiled. “I’m ready to go home”

“Do you need a wheelchair or can you walk on your own the whole way to our quarters?” Leonard asked, “I know we’re a short distance away from Sickbay, but you are not yet fully recovered from your illness, so I’m offering you the option.”

~skip~ Alcyone sat on the edge of the bed waiting for Leonard to come back from filing her release forms. She waited for him~ because although she was getting healthier, the sickness had taken a toll on her. She was weak now, barely any strength, and unable to stand for long periods of time. She had lost almost thirty pounds since she had gotten sick and since then she had been exhausted from day one.

Leonard soon returned, unconsciously rubbing the side of his neck as he entered the recovery room.

“Ready to go home?” he asked her with a smile.

"Definitely" she smiled. "I'm ready to go home"

"I believe in you, Captain"

“Good. That makes… one of us.” He tugged at his collar. Dress uniforms sucked. At least Security officers didn’t have to go through all the diplomatic insanity that he’d have to deal with today.

“You’re working the main hall, right?”

There was no way she could fire without fear of shooting Kirk… There was another one coming up on her side, but as for the Ambassador, he was gone. With the increasing pressure as he neared she took the shot. The shot found it’s mark on the Xenatian guard holding Kirk and he stumbled back falling to the ground.

Kirk landed on the floor and the one coming at her from the side was already on top of her before she could do anything. One punch and she was on the ground trying her best to regain her breath. She coughed up a string of blood as he walked over to her, reaching down to pick her up.

Jim hit the floor hard. Good ol’ Naomi, she’d hit the guy straight on. He fumbled with the bag for a second, still trying to clear his head from that chokehold. Yikes.

He shook his head clear in time to see the Lieutenant go down. These guys seemed to be coming out of the woodwork. “Hey!” Jim shouted. He pushed himself off the floor quickly. “Don’t touch her!”

In a second, he’d closed the distance between himself and Naomi’s attacker. Jim jumped and took the guy to the floor. He scrambled back up and kicked out. That one was down for the count. Jim turned back to the Lieutenant and offered her a hand. “Thanks for the rescue. Are you OK?”

She watched the Xenatian disappear and looked over to find Jim knocking him out off to the side.

"You're welcome" she rasped smiling a bit. She swallowed hard then took his hand and stood slowly. "He jostled something-..." Alcyone answered while standing. "...-But I think I'll make it."

She laid back down, and was out within seconds from exhaustion.

Leonard watched her for a moment, then once he was satisfied that she was resting peacefully, he lay back down in his cot and went to sleep himself.

“Frankly. I don’t either” she laughed weakly.

Leonard chuckled. “That’s the spirit.”

Alcyone reached for his arm and held his hand. “I love you, Leonard”

“I hope so” she mumbled. “I need to get better…”

Leonard chuckled and kissed her forehead.

“Yeah, you do. I don’t like it when you’re sick.”

“Frankly. I don’t either” she laughed weakly.

[Text] Leo. I need you. Hurry.

“Weak.” She muttered. “Hot still, and… Sick sort of.”

“Your fever is about 102, which is an improvment from earlier. Looks like you’re on the path of recovery now.”

"I hope so" she mumbled. "I need to get better..."

[Text] Leo. I need you. Hurry.

She sat up a bit, her arms shaking as she did so; drinking slowly before she couldn’t hold herself up any longer and collapsed back in bed.

Leonard caught her and helped her to lie back down.

“How are you feeling now?” he asked.

"Weak." She muttered. "Hot still, and... Sick sort of."

[Text] Leo. I need you. Hurry.

“Can I get some water?…” she asked weakly.

Leonard nodded.

“Yes, I’ll be right back with some.”

He left and quickly returned with a small cup of water. “Slow sips.”

When Alcyone awoke again, medbay was dark. She was much more sane, and much more aware of her surroundings as she had been earlier.

“Leo…” She rasped, her throat hurt. “I need some-… Water”

Leonard woke with a start.

“Aly? What is it?”

“Can I get some water?...” she asked weakly.

The moment he disappeared she sighed. Out of the corner of her eye she caught something and turned her head to see a Xenatian Guard standing at his post on the opposite side of the door watching her. 

 She turned to him as his features changed. A smirk and a dark look in his eyes made her reach for her phaser right before there was a crash within the room. 

He was almost as surprised as she was to hear it, but not as surprised as the ground he hit the moment he turned to look back at her. 

 She busted in the door and drew her phaser to set her sights on the Xenatian holding Kirk. 

 “Let him go.” She demanded, and stood her ground with a finger on the trigger.

Perfect timing! Lieutenant Naomi had gotten the hint. But then again, it was hardly subtle. Jim hoped she’d be able to get a clear line of fire, but his hopes started to dwindle as he remained in a headlock with that stupid bag over his head.

His assailant swung him around, presumably to use as a human shield. Jim kicked at the guy’s legs in hopes of hitting something sensitive. If he could just stun the attacker and roll clear, Naomi could take him out.

Leonard was relieved to see that her fever was back down in safe levels.

He lay down in the cot next to her biobed. He wasn’t leaving her side until she got better.
