the thing about padme’s deleted “mother of the rebellion” rots scenes is this is a once-14yo girl who said “i was not elected to watch my people suffer and die while you discuss this invasion in a committee” now a 27yo woman who grew into one of those helpless senators, spending her final days trying to stop a war via committee before watching her husband cause untold suffering and death. like id lose the will to live too damn

as a viewer it’s easy to see padme march into battle against the wishes of the senate in tpm, then working with the senate and doing everything to avoid marching into battle in aotc and rots (the arena very much forces her hand, and there’s even a deleted scene where she tries to negotiate dooku out of it, lol) and go, “well padme shouldn’t have gotten passive like that, she should’ve realized complying with the system doesn’t work.” but i do think it’s important to note that though tpm ends with padme taking back her throne and smiling, we learn in aotc that the only real “reward” she got for battle was more power and a senate position she didn’t even want. that padme was, for all intents and purposes, a child soldier. and all that fire she had and willingness to take matters into her own hands, senate be damned, just got funneled into being a child soldier. it’s easy to see her insistence on democracy in aotc and her deleted scenes in rots as reactive choices to that background, that though it is unwise of her to rely on an actively crumbling system, to try and negotiate palpatine into peace, it’s her only real alternative to getting on the battlefield herself . (well. death is also an alternative) (but she chooses that later)
