Anastasia productions announced to run this year:
White Plains, NY, USA - closed 7th January
Mexico City, Mexico - booking until May
Tuacahn/Ivins, UT, USA - opening 17th May, booking until 18th October
Copenhagen, Denmark - opening 19th September, booking until 1st December
Yesterday I saw the first two performances of Anastasia in Napoli, Italy.
The production is on their second year of touring the country.
I saw this production in Milan during its first year of touring, i think there were some minor differences between then and now.
The show only has 3 more cities in this part of the tour and it is not known if they will tour again for 2026-2027.
The final cities - after Napoli - are Bologna, Roma and Bitritto-Bari.
Ieri ho visto le prime due rappresentazioni di Anastasia a Napoli, in Italia.
La produzione è al secondo anno di tournée in Italia.
Ho visto questa produzione a Milano durante il suo primo anno di tournée, credo ci siano state alcune piccole differenze tra allora e oggi.
Lo spettacolo ha solo altre 3 città in questa parte del tour e non si sa se tornerà in tournée nel 2026-2027.
Le ultime città - dopo Napoli - sono Bologna, Roma e Bitritto-Bari.
According to the licensing website, the Tampere Theater (Tampereen teatteri) have been given/bought the licence to perform Anastasia again in 2026!
Unconfirmed rumour, a production of Anastasia will probably be performed in London at some point in the near future.
No dates announced as this is a future plan which will likely happen after 2025.
Some things I have noticed about the Italian production: (this is just based on images/videos)
- Olga, Tatiana, Maria & Alexei seem to be omitted mostly, this is due to the smaller cast (only 5 female ensemble and no child casting), although it is not entirely clear. At least during The Last Dance it is only Nicholas, Alexandra & Anastasia who group together. It is possible the 3 other female ensemble members are playing the sisters but it is not entirely obvious
- costumes are largely movie based, which makes sense as they are using the movie as their inspiration, including using the lyrics from the movie and only translating the new songs
Hopefully this will become more clear after more images are released and after the run in Trieste & Milan (where I will be able to see the show myself)

Hi. I’ve been looking for the CD of the Spanish Madrid cast of Anastasia, but it’s impossible to get a copy. Can somebody help me? I’m looking to buy it or perhaps somebody can rip the CD in FLAC or WAV? Thanks

Hi, sorry I didn’t reply sooner, I thought I had replied but realised today I had not.
I don’t know anywhere online that has the Takarazuka production, I know there are online shops which sell the dvd or Blu-ray but I can be expensive and the sites are normally all In Japanese.
If anyone else can help then hopefully they will reblog or put in the comments where you might be able to find it.

Hello can you please explain about anastasia jp cast? Like why do they have 2 anya and 3 dimitri?
Hi, although I don’t know the reason why they have multiple cast member in Japan, I know that is it very common there.
For the large majority of their shows they have at least 2 actors/actresses cast in the roles, different companies arrange the performers scheduled differently.
I think the main reason is to give the cast a break. It also allows cast members to have other work commitments during their schedule.
In the case of the replica Anastasia production, the performances were split equally between the different cast members & they would alternate, e.g. Tokyo’s Anya schedule was Wakana 9-13:30, Haruka 10-13:30, Wakana 11-18:15 (continuing in this pattern).
There were 3 Dmitrys in Tokyo but for Osaka there was only going to be 2, possibly because of schedule conflict for the performers. The shows were again split as equally as possible.
The only role not multi cast was the Dowager Empress, possibly because the role does not require as much as the other characters (no dancing, not in a large amount of scene).
Another thing to note is that the cast did not have any understudies, Gleb had an alternate as a third actor who was also the Tsar (this also meant the Tsar had an alternate), the cast also had no swings. The multi-casting means that the majority of the cast only had 1 role to learn unlike in the regular production where many ensemble cast members (especially swings) have multiple roles to learn in case they are required to cover.
Also they only had 52 scheduled performances in total (Tokyo & Osaka), which ended up being only 15 performances with the cancellation of Osaka & some of the Tokyo performances. With such a small amount of performances originally planned, there would have been very little point in having understudies, so multi-casting in this situation would be more suitable.
I don’t believe Japan regularly have understudies, even in long running shows as the tradition is multi-casting. Even in Takarazuka where they have single casting i believe it is uncommon for named understudies, although normally they would have the younger cast perform some shows (which is not possible at present) & I’m sure some of the actresses would be rehearsed should the lead be unable to perform.
Sorry for such a long explanation.
