You know I wish fatphobia was less pervasive. Even among people who consider themself as progressive, it's rampant. So quick reminder. No it's actually not easy to stop being fat, and it sucks that we are treated differently for something we really can't control. Shaming a fat person for being fat, and shaming them for not having the "willpower" to become skinny- is bigotry. And if all you talk to fat people about is weight loss and dieting- congratulations! You're being a dick! Stop.

I feel like what doesn't get mentioned enough is that despite the fact that fat people don't owe you repeated attempts to become thinner, many of us have worked extremely hard to try and not be fat. How could we not? You grow up in a world that continually tells you it hates you and finds you repulsive, lazy and stupid. You'd try like hell to get out of that, wouldn't you? I did a 25 year longitudinal study on dieting and weight loss, and I can tell you, from losing 85lbs and gaining all of it back and more, it is NOT about willpower. It's about complex anti-starvation mechanisms in the human body. Bodies don't like to starve. Period.

Fat people are anything but lazy. Most of us have tried so hard to make you happy by becoming smaller, that we've almost destroyed ourselves from it. There's a multi-billion dollar diet industry out there bent on nothing other than making us feel like absolute garbage about ourselves, while telling us "become thin or die miserable." and yet... and yet, dieting doesn't fucking work. So you're killing us by pushing us to diet. You're literally killing us. Please stop.

I think a really good relationship dynamic is when one partner is an entirely absurd person and the other partner's perpetual thought process is, "I adore you. Why are you like this? I'm going to kiss you at such length and with such fervor that you'll get disoriented and stop being like this for five minutes and I can rest, for fuck's sake."
