What a wonderful weekend for cherry blossoms. Every year thousands flock over to the University of Washington quad to check out the cherry blossoms in full bloom. In this shot, I was practicing some zone-focusing, while also having the picture proportioned in thirds.

I've always been fascinated by and appreciate a good starburst photo. To get a composition with a starburst effect you usually need a point light source and to crank up the aperture to f16-f22. In this photo here with a balance of cloud coverage, I was aiming for something ethereal, with cotton-candy like skies.

Partial eclipse This is what I was able to get shot in the PnW / Seattle. It would've been pretty wild had I been able to be in the path of the full eclipse.

Here’s a snap of the nozzle from an F-1 engine used on the Saturn-V. Shot on a Sony A7RII and post processed as black and white.
Arches, with a sparkle. Set at f/22 - I got playing around with my very first Leica Summicron 50mm f/2 (aka Cron 50). I really love the details, sharpness, color rendering and of course the sun star.
Landscape or Dreamscape - Union WA can be a mystical beautiful place. The surface of the water was so calm. There was even a seal peering up at me to grab its morning breakfast. I left this scene in color as it already looks pretty stark, contrast-y as thought it was a black and white.
Arcadia Beach - Like some far off distant dream on a boundless beach. Don’t pinch me, I don’t want to wake up.

Now and then I forget how amazingly sharp prime lenses are - particularly the Zeiss 21mm prime. I mean WOW! It’s TACT sharp. Hmmm, maybe I need more Zeiss primes.
Sunset @ Oahu
While traveling, one thing I love doing is to chase sunrises and sunsets. For sunrises, it helps to be on a beach house, making the trip from rolling out of bed to a shutter snap that much easier.
Here’s a quick sunset shot at Ko Olina Lagoons on Oahu.
O-stary night! Truc and I went to go check out good 'ol Yosemite National Park (YNP) and was lucky enough to have fairly good weather throughout the weekend. I found it particularly hard to go sun-chasing in the park. Much credit to the great Ansel Adams for making great use of light. I decided to cheat and do long night exposures instead. (Zeiss 21mm f/2.8 @ 25s ISO500)
Let it burn...
New years day, what else would you be doing besides burning your 'ol Christmas Tree to a crisp. Truc and I decided to take a quick drive around Seattle and stumbled upon a very festive Golden Gardens Park tradition. There were dozens of trees lined up behind each fire pit awaiting their turn to burn.
Needless to say, it was cold enough that night to warrant the heat from the burning trees. (f/2.8 at 0.125s ISO200)
Golden Gate goodness
Just about one of the hardest things I find to shoot are world renown structures. Not that their beauty themselves are hard to capture, but it's hard to grab a decent enough shot of the damn thing without looking like a typical photo from a tourist reel.
Anyhow, Truc and I were strolling around SF and somehow found ourselves in Crissy's Field. I didn't have the foresight to bring a tripod at the time so I had to improvise. Luckily the combination of the sharp lens and concrete bench the shot didn't turn out half bad. (F/4 at 15s, ISO 640) Zeiss 21mm Manual Focus.
Heaven on earth, spectacular sunrise
In September we embarked upon a family vacation. While in Hawaii we had unfettered access to Kokololio beach park on Oahu. My body was pretty much stuck in Pacific Standard Time the entire time I was on the island.
This meant - SUNRISES! Typically, I am unable to drag myself out of bed consistently early enough to catch sunrises. With my body stuck in PST waking up at 5a daily was a breeze.
On this golden occasion, I set my tripod up perfectly east above some lava rocks on the beach. This created a perfect frame in my composition, filling up the foreground with an interesting pattern of water eroded lava rocks. I set my aperture for the sharpest setting and let mother nature handle the rest. (F/5.6 at 1/320 ISO 100) 21mm Zeiss Manual Focus.
Stormy night
Luckily I had my tripod around. Thinking fast, I set the exposure for as long as possible, timing between each lightening strike. Thankfully a 30s exposure was sufficient - I didn't have my bulb remote handy for anything longer. At which I had to crank down the ISO and up the aperture.
As for the composition itself, I was aiming to capture the chaos among order. With a glimpse of the Arizona sun in the back, I wanted the aggressive clouds and lightening really pierce through. F/6.3 for 30s at ISO 50.
The Grand Canyon itself is an awe inspiring natural wonder. I find myself incredibly humbled while being graced with such beauty.

These days, I make it a habit to carry my tripod EVERYWHERE. Especially in low light conditions. Here's a shot at f/2.8 for 6s @ ISO200. I hope you enjoy it!
2013-06-15 Georgetown
It was sunny and I so happened to be in Seattle's south end. Secretly, I wanted to catch the Georgetown Saturday Market. I guess I was a little too early. In my walk-about I couldn't help but be reminded that life has a tendency to always persevere. Check out this tree/shrub that has sprouted out of the side of the building. I mean seriously, this thing has its roots implanted in the hardwood that's the frame of this building. Pretty awesome I think.
Boy reading under a tree - This sunset shot was very much inspired by the Kindle logo. I just couldn't help but capture this serene moment. I kind of wish I was under that tree reading a Game of Thrones or something.
