Itâs a dangerous scene when youâre e i g h t e e n
The Runaways, 1977 This is a really interesting picture, because it includes both Cherie and Vicki Blue, and there was very little overlap between Vickiâs time in the band and Cherieâs. So this might have been taken at the photoshoot during which Cherie very dramatically quit (dramatic partly because Lita KICKED A FUCKING DOOR DOWN)âŠ.the photographer, according to multiple sources, threw and shattered his camera during that photoshoot, so maybe itâs not from that session. But shit, you could cut the tension with a knife.
Joan Jett, 1987
In response to the Julie stuff (I was interested), I found this on some l word chat from 2016ish. Its a supposed comment from Julie on Jackieâs huffpost article:
Julie Hasse · Author/Novelist at Writer
No wonder my favorite women in that band were Kari and Jackie. I was in a relationship with Joan for six years. I observed the abuse from her current manager. It trickles down. I watched how both he and Joan dwindled our love into the closet so deeply that I couldn't breathe. Joan has done a lot for women, true, but when it comes down to the core, the personal stuff, the stuff she is directly responsible for, she becomes the worst kind of a zombie.

thanks anon. woof. the sad thing is that i can see it. i feel like the 90s with bikini kill and evil stig and the general riot grrl stuff would have been something she could have used to feel more empowered, but i guess not. i have the sense that there is this scared girl underneath her tough exterior and this sort of backs that up
Joan Jett, 1981 Happy International Womenâs Day!
We saw a lot of the reviews and the interviews, and people always cutting us down, and âjailbaitâ is a light wordâŠthink the meanest thing you could possibly call a girl, the most degrading thing you could call her, then think a hundred times worse. And thatâs the way the Runaways were treated. Joan Jett on misogyny in journalism, circa-1982

Joan Jett + rocking through the years
âŠrock ânâ roll means something. It means more than music, more than fashion, more than a good pose. It is a language of a subculture that has made eternal teenagers out of all who follow it. Itâs a subculture of integrity, rebellion, frustration, alienation, and the glue that set several generations free from unnatural societal-and-self suppression.
