There are three sides to every story–it was the first lesson Andrés Paros Torres would learn on his path to law school. The first child of Santos and Nadia Torres was deemed to be the golden boy–to live a life of excellence, to achieve excellent things. Andrés’ life was decided for him from birth. The path his parents wrote for him would not be one of normal children at his young age.  Instead of bike camp, Andrés would attend chess camp at six years old. Instead of public schools, excellence would only be taught in the classrooms of private boarding schools. And despite all the right tools at his disposal, all the endless opportunities the Torres family provided their first-born son, Andrés would inevitably become the prodigal son.

But the path was followed, step by step. After school came college and captain of the soccer team. After college came his LSATs, for which he was required to score above a 170. And finally, and most importantly, came law school. It hadn’t mattered what Andrés wanted – Santos and Nadia’s word was what would be enacted. They had never even attempted to ask their son what he was interested in. For the last thing on Andrés’ mind was being the best.

He hadn’t minded in the beginning. A young boy aiming to please his parents, that incredible smile his mother flashed with each of his achievements, the look of pride in his father’s eyes – Andrés savored every moment of it. Until that fateful day arrived, when the reality of their family was revealed with a knock at their door. He had been too young to comprehend what a half-sister meant. Had his father had an affair before his marriage, before his birth? Why was his mother so enraged when the name ‘Anissa’ was spoken?

There are three sides to every story–in this case; his mother‘s, his father’s, and his half sister’s. The truth would be convoluted somewhere in between. Ask Andrés what he was passionate about, and the answers wouldn’t exceed partying, drugs, women, and computer science. And that was the life he lived throughout college. Surely, he’d follow in his father’s footsteps, earning that law degree that made his mother beam with pride. He’d even been chosen for an internship at the city’s most prestigious law firm. He had hoped he’d made it on his own. But his last name spoke for itself – a reference of its own.

And yet, something would continue to pull Andrés’ attention away from the golden path. Axel Throne would be released, deemed innocent of the homicide of Melody Davis. The judge who cast the decision to set an innocent man free? Santos Torres. And once again, Andrés found his reality shifting. Over the years, Andres began to believe that being born as Santos Torres' first son came naturally equipped with that quality. Or perhaps it was nurtured into him. His shoulder rose and fell in a small shrug as Briggs spoke. "Rockstar life and whatever? You got groupies and shit too?" His gaze flickered over briefly to the man at his side, canting his head briefly when he couldn't recognize the song title. "No clue what you're saying to me, dude, but we'll see what you mean soon enough. Yeah?"

Despite the red sign saying "closed", Esme tried her luck, pulling at the record store's door. How could they not be open on a Sunday? Technically, most stores were closed over the weekend, but for some unknown even to her reason she was sure this one would be open. "Dang it!" She cursed under her nose and placed her hands on her hips, giving the store one final look before turning away. "It's closed. Can you believe it?" She shared her complaint with the first passer by.

He had stepped out of the office for a client meeting, a new case he had picked up as a distraction from the chaos post event and though the office had been looted. Files and confidential information missing across the city, but the show must go on. Still donned in his suit and tie, his gaze flickered upwards from the phone in hand with surprise when that familiar voice rung out in the middle of the street. Though even that familiar face hadn't done much to get him out of the lowly mood. "Think it fell victim to the riots, actually. So even if it were open....they ain't got much to sell ya'."

As if her night wasn't horrific enough, the worst possible thing that could've happened, did. Peyton didn't know how to react or what to think; the normally cool, calm and collected surgeon was a mess, in almost every sense of the word. Only in the aftermath of the terror, finding her way through a corridor of Scorpion, blue eyes adjusting to the light, did she see him. "Andrés." Her voice is quiet, his name catching in her throat because she's not been able to stop crying. The image of Olivia, tied-up and worn out, fighting for her life was crystal clear in her mind. As a doctor, she felt beyond helpless because what the fuck could she do? It was her job to help people and yet, her friend was captured, alone, still missing. "C-can we get out of here?" Her hands immediately raise to cup his face, eyes studying his features in search of any injuries. "You're not hurt, are you?" Her thumb skims delicately over his cheekbone, his skin cool to touch. "Could you take me home with you? I... I don't want to be alone tonight."

It all had happened too quickly. There had been so few times in his life where he had been nervous. Yet, as he found himself standing before that projection, that voice echoing, he could feel the way his palms seemed to sweat. His skin prickled with a burning urgency, the need to understand what the hell was happening. In the endless loop of his obsession with the Davis case, he had never imagined it would pull him in this deep. There was something profoundly sinister—something personal—about the way someone was going to such lengths to inflict psychological torment on every front.

The chaos had erupted immediately. And within moments, Andrés to forced to pull it together. A habitual practice—at least he could thank his father for one learned trait. And that was when he saw her. Without missing a beat, he closed the distance between them, wrapping his arms around the blonde. Perhaps it was his own selfish way of grounding himself, a reminder to calm down and focus. They needed to get out—now. "You good? Are you okay?" He asked, though his own voice felt distant, repeating, "I'm fine, I’m fine." His hand instinctively cupped her face, scanning her features with care, looking past the emotional hurt to check for any physical signs of pain. Without thinking, he removed his suit jacket and draped it over her bare shoulders, nodding quickly before his gaze shifted to the panicked crowd, searching for an exit.

"Come on. We'll head out the back. Everyone seems to be rushing upstairs." Though one arm stayed firmly around her shoulders, he began guiding her down the corridor. But then he paused, briefly flicking his gaze to her with a sigh. "I'm sorry, Pey. I know she's your friend."

In her head, she's trying not to think about how many times they could've had sex before now. How many times she might've already seen him naked if only things had turned out differently. If she's undressing him with her eyes, it's entirely his fault for having that complexion and wearing all white tonight. It stands out even more, contrasted against the gorgeous hue of his tanned skin and after hearing his cheesy compliment, she can't help but roll her eyes. "How original of you to go with the heart stopper. Remind me to ask Anisa if that's ever actually worked on any of her interns before."

The reality is, she has no intentions of actively trying to make any men jealous, especially not the crazed lunatic pilot that's been stalking her every move for the past six weeks. "I'm just here to do my grandmother's bidding." The blonde admits, setting her clutch down on the bar. "Speaking of which, how would you feel about a photo-op for The Ivy Lennox Foundation's website?" She asks, gaze firmly locked with his. "Not to state the obvious, but we do look like a match made in Heaven, don't you think?" Her own cheesy line is delivered with confidence, manicured fingertips smoothing over the sleek white material of his lapel. "Your tab, as in all night? You sure you can last that long, AP?" She laughs sweetly, but it's rooted in a teasing undertone. "I'll have a white wine spritzer."

There was a tickle of thought in the back of his head that he had allowed her out of his grasp too easily. He was usually the one that felt out of reach to women, the one who made their head spin with his nonchalance. Was it particularly something he would be proud of? No. But it was the creeping feeling of commitment issues that would always get the best of him. "I'm begging you to spare me from Anisa's torment. I don't wanna know nothing about what my sister gets up to. And I'm sure the feelings mutual on her part. Unless she has a lot of great things to tell you about me. Then by all means."

A smirk settled onto his lips at her excuse of a photo op as he leaned an elbow onto the marble bar and slowly shifted forward towards her. "I've gotta let you in on a secret, Pey." One brow perked as if to increase the interest. "Everyone else is in white, too. This isn't some ploy, now, is it?" Flashing her a bright smile, AP fully pulled back then. To slide into the bar seat before her smoothly. "I've been known to endure many a painful situations. Just ask my doctor." With her request, the bartender was called over within seconds to produce her drink. "Also, depends on how you're enduring your bidding."

Briggs downed two shots of vodka, one after another effortlessly and then gestured the bartender over to ask him to take several of those to the band wherever they were sitting. A small smirk played on his lips at AP's words and he turned his head to look back at him. "It's reserved for dive bars and your mom's bedroom, actually. I'm pretty exclusive." He retorted, though there was no bite to his words. Really, this was something that he would even tell his friends from the MC anyway. "I'm going up there shortly, hence all the shots and the reason why I have been in this seat, sorry to disappoint and not say I just liked the company. I do agree with the first band being better. Their song choices did that."

Wouldn’t a comment like that make a man cringe? Normally, usually, most times–absolutely. But for a man like Andres who couldn’t stand the sight of his father—anyone else would be better suited for his mother’s bedroom. “Yeah? Well, congratulations. I had no idea you made it to mama Torres’ tax bracket.” Finishing off his drink in one rapid gulp, Andres let a hint of a smile crack onto his lips as he canted his head to finally meet Briggs’ eye. “No need to appease me, I simply thought you were here for the free drinks. Glad to know you’ve got more standards than such. Now, you gotta answer this, all your songs are originals?”

"Well, if it isn't my long lost twin." She mused, turning to take in her brother. "If anyone takes after anyone, it's you me, brother." It was no surprise that the Torres genes were strong. Although she bet their father haven't betted on having majority of his kids hating him. That was the one thing she felt the most connected with when it came to her brother. Even tho he was the claimed son, the true oldest in their father's eyes, he felt as much detain as she did for their father. "I'd have to hang myself." She mumbled, "Champagne gives pretentious and I'd always much rather fun and lose. That 'we are here for a good time, not a long time' vibes." At least, that was the case when she was off duty becoming the next best surgeon. "It's like coming home. You think Satan will be down there ready for pictures like Santa at the mall?" She wondered, arching a brow, "It's not everyday someone can say they met and potentially fucked the ruler of fire."

"If anyone's long lost it's you. That hospital has held you hostage from me. What's a guy gotta do to see ya'? Crash my car? Get a concussion? Would that work?" The dramatics came equipped with a roll of his eyes. "I'm sure you've drank worse." He quipped with an added wink before a smile broke onto his features. "Shot for shot it is. Ladies first." AP would never oppose a party, a good time, a shot—in his mind, they truly weren't here for long. Although, he would still be considering it too early to die even at the grand age of one hundred. "Already thinking about fucking him, I see? You would be the type to sit on Satan's lap and ask for natural disasters as gifts."

Eyes were already mid-roll at the entirely way too obvious pickup line, but they near about rolled to the back of her skull as she turned around and saw who it was coming from. Would it be over the top to loudly gag? "Ooooh, a hit and a miss, Torres." she replied with a one of those whistles that usually ended with someone making an explosion noise. "Turnout gear would be a whole hell of lot more comfortable right now," these words were mumbled, meant more for herself than anyone else. --- She eyed the champagne warily, cautiously taking it in hand. "You sure you didn't spit in this before coming over?"

Despite the attitude directed at him, there was a slight upward pull at one corner of his lip to allow a lazy smile to form. There would be no denying how Andres was entertained by this. The banter of it all. Perhaps he should feel embarrassed in the situation that was a horrendous excuse at hitting on a woman he hadn’t so much as made eye contact with. Then again, his night had progressed painfully slowly and the champagne was not quite holding him over. "Why? You wanna taste me?" As if his brain had just realized the words that came out of his mouth, AP's face twisted once again, shaking his head. "Disregard that one too. Alright, I apologize. No, no, your drink is all bodily substance free. I assure you. You want mine to be sure? I didn't drink from it yet."

Bec watched her cousin while she sat down and narrowed her gaze while he spoke to the woman. He was personable, she'd give him that, but a little too cocky for his own good. Mostly because he knew how to talk his way out of everything and things usually worked in his favor even though she was waiting on the day that it wouldn't. When he returned, she couldn't help but roll her eyes at the mention of the number. "I'm sure you are. Poor her, she doesn't know what she's in for." Bec teased before she crossed a leg over the other and took a sip of her drink. "You'd be levelling up if you took her up on the whole sugar mommy thing. And she didn't, she'd be proud that I managed to get two coffees without paying for them. She raised me cheap, manners didn't matter much"

Dean commented with a roll of his eyes, as if his silly little contrarian-esque opinion even mattered. The male shifted uncomfortably, absentmindedly sloshing the liquid inside of his champagne flute as AP droned on and on. "Shut up. Shouldn't you be off -- oh, I don't know -- making out with my sister or something?" He snapped, attempting to ignore the sight of Dallas and AP's names paired together and projected on the far wall, something that surely wasn't helping his mood. "You're ridiculous. You know the only reason that I'm here in the first place is because I haven't had another occasion to wear this suit -- and, to answer your earlier question, yes. It is new. And yes, I know I look cute." Dean rolled his eyes, unable to help himself from indulging in AP's theatrics even if they pissed him off in his all-too sober state. "I'm not nearly drunk enough for that yet. Ask me again in an hour. Why, have you? If so, just lie to me because I will be so pissed if you ditch me right now."

I can’t believe I have to be the one to tell you this.” Despite his tone that clipped with feigned annoyance, the corner of his lip quirked upwards in a smirk. “Nah, that’s strictly reserved for when it’s over 60 degrees out. And somewhere far far away from you.” The champagne flute was raised to his lips as he tipped his head back to finish off half the glass. When he’d set it back down, a bright grin settled onto his lips. “Did you take a photo for your story? Are you gonna add this suit to a photo dump? Want me to take a pic of you in front of the white Rolls Royce outside for added Miami fuckboy effect?” There was no stopping the laughter that fell from him with Dean’s response. “Unlike you, I fall in love every hour. I don’t discriminate between sober or drunk. But I know you’d yearn for me sooo much if I left you for the cute blonde doctor over there. Alright, listen, my goal for the night is to get you a date. Or laid. Something—or someone—has gotta loosen those shoulders before you turn into the hunchback of Notre Dame.”

She's running on twelve hours of sleep over the past two days, having assisted on an appendectomy earlier that morning. Her hair was thrown up and her make-up was applied in a hurry, but she's managed to pull herself together, at least enough to look like a semi-functioning human being. It's an important event, a night where Peyton is representing her grandmother's foundation, something that she takes extremely seriously. After all, the Lennox family legacy was at the heart of everything she aimed to accomplish as a future surgeon. The gala is off to a great start and she's dressed all in white, choosing to opt for ice over fire, swapping her doctor's coat for something a little more glamourous.

Approaching the ice bar, she notices Andrés almost instantly; he looks like a million dollars, but didn't he always? "AP." His nickname falls effortlessly from her glazed pink lips, a name that she hasn't uttered in a while, for reasons that still sting. "Glad to see you haven't sustained anymore injuries." She greets, eyes briefly glancing over the champagne and martini menu. "Although, your eyebrow sutures have healed pretty spectacularly." Blue eyes raise to meet his gaze, a knowing smile stretching across her rosy cheeks. "Your doctor must have had really good hands."

Another drink had been direly needed. Ideally, he'd have preferred a bottle, though that would depend on how much cash he had on hand to slip to the bartender and how convincing he could be. But before he could dwell on that thought, a familiar voice interrupted him—one that always brought along a sense of longing. Had a client emergency not prevented him from meeting the beautiful blonde on the date he had worked so diligently for all those weeks ago.

Dark eyes sought out her gaze with an instant grin that grew against his lips. "Well, well, well, how many hearts have you had to resuscitate this evening, doctor? I'm still alive, but I may not be for much longer with you in that dress." A hand raised to his chest dramatically in show before it dropped to tuck into the pocket of his suit pants. With her words, a brow perked--that same brow that healed spectacularly. "I'll take that as a compliment, but watch out, keep it up and you'll make every guy in here jealous of me." His gaze flickered briefly to the bartender to catch their attention with a nod of his head, "anything she orders is on my tab for the night." Almost habitually spoken as he turned back to the woman. "Drink?"

"Just when I thought Reno couldn't get any more gauche." Dean murmured as he stood off to the side, a half-empty flute of champagne in hand and shoulders tensed to the heavens. Once again, he didn't know how the hell Andres managed to convince him to come to this godforsaken party -- he was a persuasive one, that bastard. Though, perhaps the prospect of getting black-out drink with everything else he had going on was more appealing than he'd care to admit. "If Valentine's Day as a holiday wasn't tacky enough. These decorations look like Party City got norovirus and threw up all over the club."

If it were possible for Andrés to roll his eyes harder it surely would have occurred in this very moment. He'd briefly stepped away from Dean, wandering off to replenish their drinks. Though his gaze had continued to flicker back to his friend sulking in whichever chosen corner of the room. Returning with fresh flutes of champagne, AP couldn't help but chuckle at the sight of him. "I'm gonna start a rumor that Party City sponsored you to shit talk them. Feels like normal people would relate to things you hate. Dare I say, you are the life of the party this evening. In your cute little suit. Is that new? Did you dress up, baby Hart? Have you realized your last name is literally the same pronunciation as heart, yet you pretend you lack one. It's the irony of it all, really." Both crystal glasses were set onto the table between them, before he'd leaned his forearms onto it. "Haven't found anyone in here yet that'll turn that heart from ice to fire? See what I did there?"
