katie-wood:
She almost mentioned that if they lived together he could easily make sure she remembered her lunch, but she kept those words in. As much as she thought broaching the subject again might be a good idea, she didn’t want to push him. “I’d be much less grumpier in the mornings if you were there to keep me on track, that’s for sure. Mm, you’ll try to steal my popcorn and I’ll think about letting you.”
“I don’t know if it’s worth the risk - running into grumpy Katie. You know how I feel about that.” He winked at her, with another light tug at her hair. Reaching for her hand instead, he nodded thoughtfully at her words. “Well, you know you’ll end up letting me because you love me and you can never say no to me.”
phaenna-kelley:
“Well, it’s good that you did–you’re a natural. Sometimes you just have to do what you think is best, even if your parents don’t agree, right? It would have been a waste for you not to do it.” Phaenna laughed again at their ongoing joke. “Does this elusive girlfriend of yours have a name?”
“Thank you. That was a hard lesson to learn at first, but it was a good one. My mom still hasn’t really come to terms with it, but that’s how some parents are, I guess.” Grinning, he ran a hand through his hair. “She does, in fact. Katie Wood. she’s a real person, I swear.”
clairexbennett:
Claire nodded when he explained further. The movie in question made much more sense given the fact he had been dating the same girl for years. “In that case, then I think you’ll be fine with anything. You just answered your own question.”
“Oh, thanks. I’m not really worried - Katie is great, and we usually are on the same page about things like this. I’ve had a lot of negative feedback though, so another opinion is always helpful.”
katie-wood:
“Well they clearly don’t know that you and I are proud dorks.” She laughed and shifted just enough to press a kiss to his skin. “Dinner first. I forgot my lunch at home today and all I had at the nursery was a granola bar, which did not fill me up. I want popcorn too though.”
“That’s true, they don’t know us at all.” He reached for a curl and gave it a gentle tug as he shook his head in mock disappointment. “I should come over and make sure you have it before you leave. I haven’t forgot my lunch in two years. But we’ll definitely have popcorn too. I’m getting a pretzel, I think. I’ll steal some popcorn.”

“ an appropriate date movie? i don’t know. aren’t those usually accompanied by some romantic comedy sort of thing? ” ronin answered with another question. he wasn’t ever very formal when it came to ‘dates’, so he wasn’t quite sure what the proper answer was himself. a bar and a couple drinks was his go-to plan. “ i’d take my advice with a grain of salt though, be safer to just check with your date. ”
“Most of the time but it’s my turn to pick the movie and she’s about as nostalgic as I am.” He shrugged, looking around for a sight of Katie. “I’ll check with her when she gets here but you know, we’ve been dating for ten years so it’s not like it’s gonna be a deal breaker either way.”
bennydecavalacante:
ben was walking on by with his hands in his pockets just as someone posed a question with no one else in sight. he took a quick peek around with an unsure expression. “ what kind of question is that? are you trying to ask me out? ” he asked, pulling out a hand from his pocket and pointing it at himself. “ cause i ain’t about that. ”
“What - no, man. Sorry, I thought you were my girlfriend.” Andrew said, surprised at the interruption. Grinning, he ran a hand through his hair and added, “And you’re missing out. I’m a great date but no offense taken. You’re not really my type either.”
phaenna-kelley:
“What can I say? You’re a great dancer–I couldn’t pass up that opportunity.” Phae giggled. “You know, that does sound exactly like something someone with a made up girlfriend would say. Girlfriend mysteriously isn’t around at the dance and now has a girls’ night out? Highly suspicious, but I guess I’ll let it slide this time. Next time I see you, though, you’d better have this girl with you or I’ll be totally convinced she’s fake.”
“You know, it was one of the few extra-curriculars I insisted that I take despite my mom’s disapproval.” She had said it was a waste of time for him to do it, but he liked it so it didn’t matter to him what she said. He shook his head ruefully, tapping his phone on the table. “I’ll be sure to drag her along with me everywhere I go from now on, just so I can prove to to you that she’s real.”
clairexbennett:
“I’m really not a good person to ask, but I’d probably say no since I remember my kids watching the T.V show when they were growing up,” Claire said with a laugh. “You should take your date to something a little bit more romantic, unless they’re into the whole superhero thing.”
“Does it change things if I add that we’ve been dating for about ten years? She is into the superhero thing too, and she seemed pretty excited about the movie.” He set his phone down beside him as he spoke, glancing around briefly for Katie. “And if she doesn’t want to go, we’lll find something else. We’re good at compromising.”
marisol-ramos:
“Depending on the girl, sure. You and Katie have been dating for like, forever though right? So I think you’re safe.” Katie’s nursery supplied flowers for the hotel Marisol worked at and for events she hosted, so she knew her moderately well.
“That’s a vote for yes. Most people so far have said no, although since they don’t really know me or Katie, I don’t take them into consideration.” He looked up with a grin and a wave; he didn’t know Marisol very well but they were on friendly terms. “Yeah, it’s been ten years and I think she’ll like the movie, which is the important thing.”
katie-wood:
“Heck yes it is. God I’m glad you know me so well.” Grinning, she plopped onto the bench next to him and leaned her head on his shoulder. Date nights just so happened to be some of her favorite nights, and she was looking forward to this one.
“Thank you. You wouldn’t believe the number of people who told me it was a kids’ movie but - I mean, I was a kid when Power Rangers first came out so it’s a nostalgia thing.” He draped an arm over her shoulders as she joined him and rested his chin on her head for a minute. “Are we getting dinner before or just eating popcorn for dinner?”
phaenna-kelley:
Phae wrote down his order on the pad in her hand. “Great choice,” she said, still smiling–and that was when she realized why this guy looked familiar. “Oh! I know you! We danced together at the masquerade. I knew I knew you from somewhere.” She noticed that he was eating alone, but she wasn’t one to judge–she couldn’t help teasing just a little, though. “You know, I’m starting to think that the girlfriend story was just to get me to leave you alone. I never did see her at the ball and now you’re here eating alone?” Her tone was light and joking, and she smiled as she spoke.
“Thank you, I’m quite partial to chicken.” She recognized him before he could say the same about her and it took a moment for Drew to place her. Everyone looked so different when they weren’t in a mask and formal clothes. “Oh, that’s right. You’re the one who cut in on my best partner of the night.” He laughed as well, shaking his head in mock disappointment. “You know, I’d volunteer to show you pictures but that sounds exactly like what someone who had made up his girlfriend would say, doesn’t it? Would you believe me if I said she had a girls’ night out with her other best friend - the one who isn’t me.”
